  1. Haven't been this excited since we signed Adama and Veretout...
  2. Sure, he wasn't good going forward, but everyone knew that, and yet when we gave him the ball the rest of the team would move away from him and leave him with no support or passing option whatsoever. It is the sort of play that has been endemic here for years, where players are asked to do the things that they are bad at and we purposely expose our own weaknesses rather than try to compensate for them.
  3. I think he is massively overrated by many on here, perhaps he just seems better on account of who we have had since.
  4. At times he looked like the only one of our defenders who knew how to defend, so I think a lot of the vitriol there has been towards him in the past has been undeserved. Good luck to him, having to go on loan to these Champions League clubs can only make him appreciate Villa all the more, I'm sure.
  5. I know he has a fully deserved reputation as a poor passer, but by God, some of his stuff yesterday you couldn't make up. One that particularly stood out was when he had a choice of two players quite close together in an advanced position that he could play a ten yard pass to and managed to kick it really hard straight down the middle of them both, through to the keeper.
  6. I think it will be two transfer windows until we really see a Steve Bruce team, and then will be the time to judge him.
  7. I'm not a fan of his but I do think his effort really shone through tonight in comparison to most of the team. Having said that, my heart still sinks when we switch the ball out wide to him to attack.
  8. Looks like he could be a good player if he gets more drive and learns how to impose himself on the game, as was said about Westwood all those years ago.
  9. He didn't make much impression on the left but was much better when he was moved infield.
  10. Can't see that happening, I would have thought Meyler from Hull would be more realistic, even though he has said he doesn't want to leave.
  11. Too slow as well to be a top defender. He needs to put in a lot more good performances before I can forget that horror show against Wolves.
  12. I like Brady, not worth McCormack plus money on top though. i don't think we will ever be able to get the best out of both Kodjia and McCormack in the same team, and Kodjia has earned the right to be top dog by his performances for us.
  13. Generally looked good, but his lack of pace was exposed a few times second half.
  14. I thought Friedel was awful for a long time, he consistently palmed shots back into the danger zone instead of turning them away, cost us a shed load of goals.
  15. To be fair, £55m is more than half a Gareth Bale.
  16. I thought he did ok today. Maybe he is crap, but games like this don't give him the chance to prove it. I don't think he could really have done any more with the one chance he had, it was a good block.
  17. He looked comfortable on the ball, but quite lax in his defensive play. Certainly better than Gardner though.
  18. I remember one of my Yorkshire mates used to always refer to him as Steve "seg it" Staunton, dismissing his long raking diagonals as him just lumping it up the pitch as soon as he got it.
  19. I'm disappointed to see him go, he gave us a different option and there are several players I would rather have seen leave than him.
  20. With his ability he should be a stand-out player in this division, the fact that he can't even get into the team consistently suggests that he hasn't really delivered. He seems to put in the effort, so I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, sometimes things just don't work out, and unfortunately that might be the case here.
  21. I think we have got exactly what would have been expected from Bruce based on his history, that includes poor football and strange decisions. I think he is a decent, capable manager, but I'm not too surprised by anything that has happened since he came.
  22. We have a lot of must-win games at home to teams above us, so we still have a chance, but we won't win them without significant additions to the team.
  23. I think it is a mistake to turn down £25m for Amavi but then have to sell Gestede to get some funds for a new midfielder. Even if Amavi was worth £25m, you don't want your best player to be your left back. I would sooner see that money invested in improving other areas.
