Shit or not, you'd have thought we'd have signed another player before letting him go. We are not blessed with options in there so another body would've been useful.

I think Hernandez as a mobile, physical focal point with Ayew and McCormack dropping off would be lethal. There's 50+ goals there easily.

He's only been in England since the weekend, give him a chance. Two weeks of intensive work will have him up to speed.

Could it be that there's more movement around him which in turn allows him to dispatch the ball more quickly and into more threatening areas these days? Under previous regimes it's gone backwards because it was the only option bar a punt into space.

Other than their president stating a PL club had a bid accepted, is there actually any confirmation that club was Villa? Just an assumption from what I can see and perhaps we have never been in for the player.

9 caps and 27 years of age and was still playing in Holland. That would suggest he was hardly big news. The fact he signed for Villa confirms this and my point was that he doesn't command a big wage and I'll stick to this all day long. He'd have taken a modest wage to make it to the PL, he'd have been paid peanuts for Feyenoord.

He was hardly a superstar of the Dutch squad and 12 caps at this age was hardly big news.

I bet Vlaar is nowhere near a substantial wage. No one had heard of him when he signed for us so I can't see him commanding a huge wage at all. I also think Vlaar's hope of a substantial wage through a bumper contract are 9 months too late. No one is going to throw a load of cash at a player of his age and injury record.

At the moment the team are being asked to press. Gil maybe doesn't have that in his locker (at the moment, at least) nor does he have the fitness having played in the pedestrian Spanish league.

He's always been a decent player, but like any struggling team, the fans want to find a scape goat. He's been one amongst the likes of Lowton and co. Actually, in a team that has been horribly negative for years and it's hardly a surprise that players like N'zogbia, Gabby and even Benteke have looked rubbish. Change the style to play to strengths and hey presto.

Also, Holtby has done nothing to suggest he's the wonderkid the Fifa 2014 brigade think he is. Did little at Spurs and even less at Fulham. Why do people think he's the answer for Villa?

As for what has changed. I think that in May, RL thought he'd be selling the club. Fast forward two-three months and he realises this isn't happening, well not soon, and he needs to protect the club's status in order to sell it in the future. If he can't sell it now then he will certainly struggle to shift a Championship team.

Best crosser at the club and has plenty of potential. Can still be a quality RB with some better midfielders in front of him. As for blaming him for both goals. A little harsh considering Wilshire waltzed into the box unmarked and Delph had a mare when the ball came to him for the second.

Do people on here really have such shit lives that they are hanging on every word. Vlaar will sign when it's done, not before. Sitting watching this all day isn't going to speed it up and you're just going to get paranoid and invent negative reasons as to what is happening. Before anyone gets the hump, it's not aimed at anyone in particular.

As for Guzan, he's not without fault. Remember, he could barely catch a ball a couple of season ago. The fact is he's had a decent run over Xmas and is soon out of contract. He sees Given will be No1 and is thinking he would rather ply his trade elsewhere. It doesn't come down down to Villa wanting to keep him but more of some club saying he'll be our No1 and that's what he wants at this stage of his career.
