As I reflect a little more, I wonder if part of the problem is that Dean is struggling to manage a larger squad - to keep all the players happy and motivated. Presumably it’s easier when the team more or less picks itself…

Too soon to pull the trigger. But the next three games are critical. We not only need points, but we need to play much, much better. Team looks devoid of ideas (horizontal passing at the back, hoofing to the wings) and low on confidence. The nature of the Wolves defeat no doubt had an impact, but it does feel as though something isn’t right in the dressing room - not sure about the various rumours, but there’s likely no smoke without some sort of fire. If he’s lost the dressing room he has an absolute mountain to climb to keep hold of his job….

Quite right to send a signal to other (potential selling) clubs that we’re happy with where we are. Doesn’t mean there won’t be more in, but we’re not desperate and are not going to be stitched up on price. Wouldn’t be the end of the world for us to go with what we have and strengthen in January if really necessary.

Watched his YouTube, doesn’t look too bad. I reckon if you put a YouTube together of Doug’s best bits it would be better - happy for him to come in to provide some competition with him and Nakamaba though.

I think this is how we line up when everyone is fit. Hope the formatting isn’t messed up. Ings Watkins Bailey Buendía Nakamba/Doug SJM/Sanson Targett Mings Konsa Cash Martinez

How many national teams capped a Villa player?

Still feel depressed at what could have been with Nilis.

Any idea when he’s likely to be back?

Bet365 has Villa 1/10 not to get relegated. Might stick the savings on that - better return than you’d get from any savings account.
-
Really want us to get this done. This and a backup CB and I’ll be more than satisfied with all of our transfer business this summer.

Didn’t announce Messi. Gutted.

400K per week for 1 year circa £21m. Throw in a £10m signing on fee, optional second year. The two Emi’s can help him settle. Suppose he can have the No.10 shirt. Spare change to bring in JWP too. Simples.

Agreed. Don’t think we need Cantwell with what we’ve got.

Would much rather JWP than Cantwell.

Yeah, fair enough. Not sure why I was inclined to be so charitable… -

I’m not convinced we were trying to convince him at that point, particularly if this had been stitched up for months. Were I to give him the massive benefit of the doubt, then I’d say he perhaps wanted to make sure we were able to bring in decent players to replace him - so rather than convincing him to stay, Lange’s transfer updates gave him the green light in his head. He probably also wanted to say goodbye to some of his team mates. -
Apologies totally missed this - my fault for spending all my time in the Grealish thread over the last few days

Came from nowhere…. Very happy with this. Total pro. Will be a leader in the dressing room. Onwards and upwards. VTID

I’m looking forward to Dean offering his thoughts on the transfer. He’ll speak highly of Grealish of course, but will, I’m sure, place the transfer in it’s proper context - an opportunity to further strengthen the squad as we continue to pursue our ambition of a top six finish. He’ll acknowledge our disappointment, but recognise that no player is bigger than our great club - and it’ll resonate because he (Dean) is one of our own. As I said previously, onward and upwards. Can guarantee he’s not a Manc. -

Could have been a Villa legend, but just a footnote in our proud history now. Onwards and upwards! VTID -
I actually thought the system was pretty fair. Tickets went on sale at 5pm. Someone logging on at 4:00pm shouldn't get any advantage over someone logging on at 4:59pm. Assigning a random place in the queue is the fairest way of doing it. I would say that though having got on.
