I think Bailey has been signed for the RW but if Watkins is out injured he would start up front for us ahead of Grealish, Buendia, Traore. Obviously if Grealish goes we are then down an attacking mid and that solution is less attractive. So my suspicion is we won’t sign a backup striker if Jack stays, but we might go for someone if he goes.

I’ve said all along (as have others) that all we can do is buy quality… either that convinces Jack to stay or means we are set up to cope with him going. Despite my word of caution in the post above this I think we have done some great business so far this summer.

I hope this is right. Devil’s Advocate is his stepdad, a dodgy character and his agent, has tried for years to manufacture PL interest and failed… so in December he switched agent (though still with his stepdad involved) and the new agents have found a PL buyer. I am very much hoping you are correct but a United fan I know who is involved in the game (and who has in the past given me information I think has been 100% accurate on Heaton and Southgate and some others) span it that way to me when we were first linked. I hope it’s just him being a dickhead because the videos look really exciting. Edit: what I am saying here is not to question his quality as such, just to note this guy was saying to me there is a reason that ‘interest’ from United etc never went anywhere. Nah I read his statement as saying he’s going for a manager job this season and doesn’t want to be leaving Villa in the lurch for it in November/January/whenever it comes up. He won’t go to another assistant role.

Well I said I think more players will come in so don’t think it would be an issue but if that’s our lineup for a few games while we wait for Sanson and Luiz to come back then I wouldn’t think it would be a major disaster.

Well no but I imagine those three players will quite possibly never take the pitch together. As things stand with DL and Sanson not options I think it would be Nakamba and McGinn behind Grealish, Buendia and Traore. But I also think we will bring some more in.

Agree, slap on the wrist at most. But Jack will still stay.

Not to mention that Greenwood is now almost 20 and still only scored 7 league goals this season and that might not be good enough for us (for all that I personally believe in taking a bit of a gamble)

Conversely if we had loaned Jesse Lingard in Jan and he had performed for us as he did for West Ham then we would have finished top six last season and they would have been midtable.
