    I think we COULD gamble on it given that we aren’t signing him as a starter… if he ended up injured it would ‘just’ be a waste of money. As a loan, barely even that maybe. But as a loan if he comes, stays fit, plays his way into the team we disrupt our defence and then he pops back to Man United that’s annoying as well. I’d rather go into the season with him in the squad than just with three centre backs, but I’m also sure we are looking around at other options.

    Nah they tend to be in warmer places so they’ll just do shirts and shorts same as normal.

    It’s a simplification and I don’t know too much about him but his stats in the Champ last season are almost exactly the same as Grealish’s at the same age and we just sold Grealish for £100m a couple of years later. It’s a funny old game.

    It’s an absurd position to claim John McGinn is not Premier League quality. He might not be as good as some of our fans want him to be but anyone who claims he isn’t Premier League quality is talking drivel. All that said I agree with you this signing would dramatically improve us since I do think you are right on the others (well, not Ramsey, but like Chuk he’s young and raw).

    I was raising this yesterday - not a smokescreen but feels like a Paul Doyle could have been tipped off we were after an England player from Southampton and went for JWP when it was actually Ings all along. But maybe we are after both…

    Last time I’ll be in this thread I imagine. I do mostly wish him well. Thought Purslow’s statement was good. Grateful for some good memories. Think we have strengthened the squad so fine with how we are now.

    I agree with your first point that I want Konsa at CB but I actually think he’s handy going forward, albeit not in the normal style of a full back. But I really like Guilbert so I’m all for him being involved.

    Haha yes it’s funny how ‘there is no resale value’ and ‘we are a selling club’ can be used as complaints despite inherently contradicting each other! All the challenges of running a successful club on and off the pitch I suppose.

    Played two right backs (rather than a right winger) to cope with him. Thing is really that should have reduced their threat down that side/freed up options elsewhere but sadly didn’t really work for us as you say. Doubt he will get doubled up on as much at City for that matter…

    Nah, they have all left clubs and seen other players leave clubs. It happens to everyone. None of us have breakdowns when someone leaves our work.

    You’ve been consistent and fair play to you, and I actually agree with you now and don’t think we will sign him for the reasons you state (in fact I wonder if someone leaked “Villa are after an England player from Southampton” or similar and it turned out to be Ings) but if by some slim chance we DO get him I hope you’ll send Paul Doyle a bunch of flowers

    £100m… smashes the record for a British player. Not surprised the club have accepted, now time to reinvest and climb. I thought this would happen a year ago. Bailey, Watkins, Buendia is still a top half forward line.
