  1. I posted in another thread a week ago that if we could drop £40m on any (realistic) PL signing it would be him so I would say so. He’s better than any of our midfielders (maybe not DL if DL achieves his full potential, but better now) and then you add his free kicks on top as a bonus. But on the flip side I think signing him would mean we were playing 4-3-3 more often than 4-5-1 and I really like Traore so I’m not sure I would want that. (That said for all I insist to @Kiwivillan above that Doyle won’t be making this up, there is a part of me that wonders if someone somewhere in the chain has made up something from that conversation - but that’s because I believe 99% of rumours we see actually originate on this site then get parroted back to us )
  2. Kiwi I’ll say again though you don’t seem to want to hear it - Paul Doyle is not someone who makes up rumours. This might well be wrong. I personally don’t think it will happen. Maybe he’s been fed a line. But he will not have ‘invented’ it. That’s not his role or his game.
  3. I bet you’re right but we need him in goal
  4. Look, I don’t think we will sign him. It comes too soon after I said he’d be my dream signing… I don’t get that lucky. But I promise anyone that (as you say) this comes from SOMEWHERE. There is a 0% chance that Paul Doyle, a senior journalist who specialises in writing about Midlands football, is at Villa Park every week who never breaks transfer rumours just decided “I’ll make up a link to JWP.” Maybe he’s been conned, maybe it’s an agent playing a game, maybe it won’t happen, maybe it will - but he would not have said we were planning to make a bid unless a genuine source told him that.
  5. No Kiwi is right - Romano is saying €34m (euro) which is £29m (pounds). But personally I suspect the £34m cited elsewhere is more accurate based on the Norwich chairman’s comments.
  6. You just told me Nakamba needs to start every game Serious note though I agree with you on this. Including Jack not playing every minute. I don’t blame him for it not being the case as our squad has been largely gash, but don’t think we can use that excuse after this summer.
  7. Ok agree to disagree but fair point.
  8. Big rangy stride, like Vieira or Isaiah Osbourne.
  9. Carrick was one of the best passers of the ball in the game and not a great tackler… so I suspect that’s a joke? On a serious note with Nakamba I agree with you - win the ball, play the simple ball. He’s great at that. The issue is when we have the ball we sometimes end up having to pass to him and that’s not so good! Horses for courses - in a game where you’re chasing possession you want him on the pitch, in a game when you have the majority of the ball you want him on the bench.
  10. Who is this lad and shall I get more excited than I am now? Edit: Weirdly this quote just quoted a picture of Batman. So to clarify I do know who Batman is.
  11. Don’t be so negative. I want us twice as good. I expect 14 past Liverpool for a start.
  12. I don’t need him to be a playmaker but for us to be where we want to be *when on the front foot* we need someone who doesn’t slow the whole move down every time they get the ball. I love having him in the team when we are playing a top team but against most he’s just not comfortable enough on the ball. It’s like Neil Taylor - good at his primary job but ultimate if you want to play good football and attack teams you need your ‘destroyer’ to be able to get the ball, give the ball, get the ball, give the ball without needing multiple touches every time or having to turn in a full circle because the only pass he can play is with the inside of his dominant foot. Kante would be nice but I mean even someone like Gavin McCann could do the above more effectively than Nakamba. Again though he’s a valuable member of the squad and in games where we need a spoiler he’s absolutely excellent - as shown by the record with him in the team. Im very happy with where our midfield is though so the good news is we only need to sign quality. In fact there’s only two or three positions in the squad where we just need a PL level body - that’s a massive turnaround and people like Marv have played a big role in it.
  13. No-one is walking around Arsenal dressed as a turkey… well, except Arteta maybe…
  14. I know things like £150m get touted but let’s face it at £120m you are at 25% more than any other transfer fee in history (except Neymar’s fake deal) and I’d say anyone would be selling any player.
  15. I broadly agree but let’s face it sometimes you do get better that way, especially with young players. Leicester do it repeatedly. They sit on the bench for a year, they develop, then they win a place in the team. Also something we want our own kids to do of course. They also don’t just sit on the bench - I don’t think Patrick Bamford would displace Watkins for example but if Patrick Bamford was sitting on our bench we would be significantly better equipped to win games where Ollie is struggling and we need to change things than looking at whether Davis or Wesley is the right option (even though I haven’t written off either personally).
  16. I have watched a LOT of Emi Buendia the last few days and his movement is so ridiculous it’s almost stretching it to say he plays on the right - in the same way as you say that Jack plays everywhere. It’s going to be absolute madness. Total football. I can’t wait. Don’t even give them a formation, just send them out.
  17. Actually can’t think of a transfer I have been more excited about since Ashley Young.
  18. Seems to hit the ball a lot harder now than he did a couple of years ago. Like to see that development. Speaks well of work put in in the gym.
  19. I would think Grealish left, Buendia central, Traore right in a 4-2-3-1, or Grealish left and Buendia right in a 4-3-3 as the most regular options. But so much flexibility in there now.
  20. He’s one of those players who has won us games on his own. Integral to us staying up, got us to a cup final. Did not cost much. So I think he’ll always be a bit of a cult hero. All that said if he doesn’t play another game for us because we have increased the quality in the attacking third I’ll be delighted - and hope he gets a move somewhere good once he’s back from his injury.
  21. McGinn also missed half a season with injury remember. On that subject I can’t recall DL ever missing a game with a niggle which is always a handy attribute.
  22. He also writes our match report for the Guardian for pretty much every single game at Villa Park (though as I have said elsewhere, doesn’t often write about transfers).
