  1. Exactly how much will we get for a CL/PL double next season?
  2. Just on the second part of this, it’s worth noting that while Luton are not winning enough games, off the top of my head I can remember them scoring 4 past Newcastle, 4 past Brighton, 2 past Man City, 3 past Arsenal just in the last few weeks. Conceding a couple of goals against them was not unexpected - whether or not Lenglet played.

Captain vs Spurs just to see their faces…?
  4. I’m not one to whine about refs but I just cannot look at that second half without blaming Oliver for our dropoff - every time we competed for a ball they got a free kick, every time they fouled us we got nothing. Never seen anything quite like it.
  5. The response to the FFP response is a bit OTT to me. It’s what I would expect them to say - FFP (or PSR, etc) is just about running your club with a somewhat balanced budget and having to report on that. So of course there are no “FFP decisions” because EVERYTHING is an FFP decision. I’d respectfully suggest it’s a question asked by someone who doesn’t understand how a business functions because every business in the world (within reason) has to balance the books, whatever reporting framework they have to follow, and that isn’t usually going to be just one person’s call on every decision with financial implications. What perhaps is the real question is: who is making the final call if the business side of the club and the footballing side of the club disagree - and in that they seem pretty clear it’s via direct control of the ownership. Tone of minutes I agree are appallingly written up - you can make minutes sound concise and boring without sounding dismissive, especially if it was actually a positive meeting. But that’s probably some junior employee tasked with writing them up quickly (which itself could be seen as a bad judgment call). None of this to say I don’t have some questions about decisions off the pitch at the moment!
  6. Oh sure, but I think the point “the next £100m footballer” is more that less than 10 players have ever gone for that.
  7. On the Football Ramble podcast they said if he moves it would be as the next £100m footballer - don’t want him to move but glad people are talking in respectful numbers about him
  8. What’s the paperwork that’s supposed to have been done wrong? Totally missed this
  9. “I’m going to bring you on in a few minutes and as you can see, these lads are garbage so get a few assists please”
  10. I assumed they (or at least Digne) were speaking French and Digne was saying “ouais?” - ie “yeah?” - which would be the same mouth shape as the “when?” you thought you saw. But that’s based on the exact same video you saw and either way it just seemed like a tactical chat.
  11. Lenglet will play 25+ games for us this season despite Pau, Konsa, Diego Carlos etc. There will definitely be plenty of games for Mings if he comes back strong.
  12. Love Bailey but I do think you’re being harsh on Young in your second paragraph. He had loads to his game - hence the career you reference in your third. But it’s a good comparison as two players who at their peak get the ball anywhere and you think “hmm maybe they’ll skin a few people now and we will score…”
  13. Haven’t been involved in the debate but I guess for me (without wanting to get sucked in) it’s the hyperbole we get. “He’s not playing well, I don’t think he’s going to cut it here” is a totally reasonable position on a player not performing. What we tend to get these days is “Complete and utter dud! Stealing a living! Bad attitude! Absolute waste of money!” We see it time and again and then the player adapts/settles/starts performing but people don’t seem to learn. So for me it’s less about an opinion being “wrong” and more like “maybe it’s worth giving Tielemans a bit more time…” when people were writing him off in November, or “maybe it’s worth giving Diaby/Zaniolo a bit more time” now… of course, people are perfectly entitled to think those players won’t make it.
  14. I don’t think anyone would disagree with that but what’s your suggestion instead? Or if you’re just saying we have to just hope for the best - I agree!
  15. What’s your suggestion? Get a witch doctor in for Pau, Mings, Konsa and Diego Carlos? I support it if you have a good one.
  16. 13 points clear of 7th is remarkable. To have top 6 that nailed on in February is a great achievement. Here’s hoping we can now kick on further.
  17. I’ve watched Jonathan David for years and I don’t think he’d get ten goals in a PL season. Screams Edouard to me as another player we were linked to a lot who came in and scores about five per season. Swapping Ollie for a gamble like that has a good chance of dropping us from challenging CL to midtable IMO, and even if David comes in and scores five goals MORE than Ollie per season that would only move us maybe a place higher in the league - too much risk for too little reward, IMO.
  18. I’m looking on the bright side… could have gone to the Euros, had a breakout tournament, been a target for the very top clubs in the summer. Now we just need to qualify for CL without him, no problem, and he’ll be back for next season bossing it against Real Madrid at Villa Park. All good.
  19. I totally missed this signing! Off to do some reading.
  20. Think I’m missing something obvious here but who’s the backup/rotation LB if we sell Digne and don’t sign anyone?
  21. The opposite actually. If they’d taken on debt around the stadium, they’d have been fine as it wouldn’t have counted towards FFP (or the PL equivalent at least). The owner instead decided to fund the stadium directly, and take the debt to support day-to-day operations - meaning it did count. Absolute financial incompetence.

100%. You don’t get to the top of sport with a “normal” mentality - it has to be exceptional in some way. I don’t use either of those terms ‘normal/exceptional’ to mean good/bad and apologies if it comes across that way - I am agreeing with you entirely that you need a ‘different’ mental perspective. Same with people who set records like sailing round the world solo and so on.
  23. Don’t really believe in blaming one player personally. Martinez could have claimed it. Lenglet could have got rid of it. I’ve played in defence and in goal - sometimes, whatever the shout, you use your judgment and deal with the situation. So I’m not really interested in whose “fault” it was - my point was, apart from that one (collective) error, Lenglet looked better on the right than he has on the left to me! I’d be fine with him and Pau next game - which is lucky, as I don’t think anyone else is fit…

Yeah better today than I’ve seen him in a good while
  25. I think he’s actually our most important player
