  1. It’d be a big shout for e.g. The Guardian to report today that West Ham had made an offer and we had knocked it back if they hadn’t actually done so. Especially given the journalist who wrote the piece is Jacob Steinberg who is as connected at West Ham as it gets.
  2. He got to play with Finn Azaz this weekend so can’t see him wanting to move now
  3. I’m still bitter about Arsenal being allowed to sign Arshavin two days after the January window closed and him firing them to CL that season.
  4. Pretty sure if (hypothetically) he’s a dick he won’t be the first 20 year old PL striker already playing for his country to need a bit of maturing/managing so he can achieve his potential. And to your initial point, I absolutely trust Emery to do that (if he sees that potential) rather than just bin him off.
  5. Emery said a week ago he thinks Duran can be one of the world’s top strikers so he is all good as far as I’m concerned
  6. Given that West Ham and AC Milan have tried to sign him in the last fortnight, I don’t think he’ll be off to the Championship any time soon
  7. They’re closer to Wolves in the bottom half than to us!
  8. Boro mate of mine says he’s a level above Aaron Ramsey in his opinion, in both performance and potential. He’s a year older, mind you. He said he thought a fair deal would be £10m and loaned back until the summer. Just a view from ‘the other side’.
  9. Or maybe we think by the summer other PL teams will be after him
  10. We are a top 4/6 team and Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, McGinn, Ramsey and Watkins have all played in the Championship.
  11. Eesh I hope no-one from the transfer thread sees this detail
  12. Every time someone on here declares “Player X needs to go out on loan” I think hmm sometimes yes but sometimes maybe they are better off being coached by one of the world’s top managers every day than whoever is in charge of Swindon right now
  13. Argentinian so no doubt I’ll get excited and then he’ll sign for Man City
  14. For all those saying “why pay £15m when we sold JPB for £5m?”: 1) The £15m is a speculative figure 2) As Bobzy points out, in the weird world of FFP that means a £2m profit this year not a £10m loss 3) We gave a discount on JPB to include a buyback. I’d really focus on #1 at this point anyway!
  15. Yep I’ve seen enough in the thread title. Sign him
  16. Also Emery’s entire career has been spent building teams from ‘unfashionable’ players rather than glitzy names. It’s exactly what we should expect as an approach.
  17. Don’t think anyone suggests he’s consistently delivered over his time here (or even consistently played!) but his highlights have been really, really important goals for us. The Leicester winner last year which was critical to us getting Europe and helped send them down, as an example. So it’s not like he’s a cult hero based on just a gimmick. Same as I will always like the crucial goals AEG scored for us while acknowledging the club moved beyond his level in his time with us
  18. Haha - my point was more that I’d see Spurs as a very separate part of the discussion to Man United or Newcastle!
  19. Dougie grew up scrapping in the favela. He’s always one step away from getting in a fight, and I’d say he’s really really matured on that front over the last couple of years. But he’ll never totally eliminate it.
  20. 4th and 5th - Torres, Mings, Konsa are 1/2/3 in whatever order.
  21. I don’t think United or Newcastle will catch us. I think we will get top 5. Not sure if it’ll be top 4, so hoping for that 5th place CL spot - back every English team in Europe!
  22. Disagree in that I really like ESR - think he’s a lovely player, think Arsenal should be using him more, and think he’s the sort of player (obvious potential, not delivering it) that Emery has a track record in making very good. Agree in that it’s a position I definitely don’t think is a priority for us so I wouldn’t be splashing any cash on him.
  23. Also think VAR stopping every game for multiple minutes while players stand around in the cold is likely leading to an increase in muscle injuries.
  24. I’d still play a defence and goalkeeper however many goals you think Zaniolo can get from that position.
  25. 2+2= something (maybe wrong, maybe right) but it seems to me like we wanted this guy in now as competition, could only get the deal done if we agreed the loan back, hence recalling KKH as our cover for second half of season. All that to say I think this guy could be in and challenging for a starting place for 2024/25 rather than being a longer term prospect.
