I still think as much as Coutinho and Digne will improve us, a new defensive midfielder transforms us as a side. It is something we have been crying out for, for years. It will help us keep the ball better, improve our possession stats and generally control games more. Nakamba is dogged and tenacious and Luiz is elegant and tidy, but neither can drive with the ball and really dictate the game from in front of the back 4. I don’t know who we’re after but if Bissouma was available for £50m and the club think they can afford it (and aren’t put off by the allegations), then it’s a no brainer for me. We have to get it right in there and if we do, we’ll shoot up the table.

I wonder if someone might bid for him in this window and if we’d be open to offers? I like Targett and think he would be a good squad player but if a bid of £17/18m came in for him, would we tempted to sell?

As unpopular as this opinion might be, I don’t think he was good enough for us in the championship to be honest.. He was very poor for a lot of games when we were down in that division. His playoff performance masked what was a poor season from him IMO

Disagree on back ups. We need to find an upgrade on Konsa and Mings otherwise we'll never improve. It goes back to what I was saying previously. Ultimately, we'll need to probably replace all XI players in our side bar Martinez if we want to finish in the top 4.

This is what I’ve been saying for a while. He has all the tools. He’s quick, good with the ball at his feet, can pick a pass and he’s capable of scoring. He’s not quite there yet, but then he’s 6 years off his ‘prime’. Imagine how good he’s going to be in a few years. I think he should spend some time in the Summer on the weights. Put a few pounds of muscle on. It will massively benefit him.

Digne and Coutinho will massively help us create chances. One is pretty much top of the tree for chances created at full back and the other is a £140m maestro. I don’t think we’ll add any more attacking players until perhaps the summer. The key signing for me is still a defensive midfielder. The Summer, looking that far ahead, is a tough one to predict in terms of recruitment. I think Gerrard will spend the rest of the season trying a few things and giving players chances but they’ll be fighting for their places at the club. IF we signed Coutinho, Digne and Bissouma, I thinks a centre half and another attacking player might be on the cards in the Summer but I can’t see us spending big if we go all out for Bissouma. The Summer will be all about getting rid of some of the deadwood.

I think he’s going to leave and it would be a blow considering the club has fawned over him for a couple of years and they’ve clearly earmarked him to be our next big thing. The fact he didn’t go out on loan shows they want to fasttrack him to the first team. I’m with the club and Gerrard though. If he can’t see a pathway to the first team at 18 then the kid and his agent are delusional. He’s literally in the first team squad most weeks and it’s clear that he’ll get his chance in due course. Just look at Ramsey! Who knows what will happen but the signs aren’t exactly promising are they.

This is where I’m at. I can’t wait to see what Gerrard and his team can do with a pre season under their belt. We have some very good players at the club and if we can add 2/3 quality players before then, we’ll be finishing inside the top 8. I think the future is bright.

I call it as I see it. I’ve been really frustrated at times with him but he’s finally starting to show some real quality. Some of his flicks and his passing in the final third can be a joy to behold. He’s still a little careless in possession but honestly, I was really impressed with him for the most part. I’ve said all along, I’m expecting him to get better and be a real player for us so whilst I’ve been critical, I had faith!

I just think he’s good and his potential is scarily high. At the moment he’s a bit jack of all trades master of none but given time, I think he could become a fantastic player for us. Well worth his place in the XI at present.

I thought him and Buendia linked up nicely. If we’re going to play one of Ings or Watkins, I think Watkins possibly shades it due to his pace and his engine. Its such a tough call. One thing I will say is, Watkins has been poor lately so it’s great to see him play well tonight.

Been so poor. Gutted for him but he’s been crap for a while now. Ive always thought it to be a nonsense theory, but could it be that he struggles with the pressure of a crowd and his form was down to empty stadiums? Can’t see us not signing a left back.

I actually think Watkins has been better than Ings. Not great though.
