  1. The thing I find hardest to accept in all this, is the deliberate falsification by later alteration of hundreds of statements. It was a systematic cover up which massively saps faith in the police.
  2. He keeps all his money in a big brown bag.
  3. Well that rumour died all alone and got buried along with it's name.
  4. Same, had a quick trawl of twitter, google results from last hour to see if there was some breaking story.... Everyone is still chewing over the telegraph article though by the looks of it. oh well.

I haven't been able to try it out properly yet, too many probs on my nvidia cards in the lappie and the desktop with nouveau and only the open source drivers work with gnome-wayland. X will still be around for a good while yet I should think. Only way legacy apps will run on the new converged devices on Mir/Unity 8 is in little X containers that get sandboxed to meet the security model of the host. So even on phones and tablets X will still be alive in some way for ages yet.
  6. Sounds like we're ready to come screaming back into the big time in no time!
  7. A massive toss? I'm sure he'll find that very romantically nourishing.
  8. I'm not sure he could take that kind of mass romantic nourishment
  9. Just do it, get enough money together for a few months rent, give yourself at least 6 months to be really shit at the language but have enough to get some kind of work. I was lucky in that I had a contract and worked remotely, I only had money for 2 months though when I came so needed the wages once I'd paid the deposit and a month up front! Took me a year to get italian down to a decent level to open up a whole other world which you can't experience if you don't speak the language. Never looked back after that, here 11 years in May. Seriously you will not regret it, even if it doesn't work out you will find out a shitload about yourself that you otherwise wouldn't know.

    Genoa

Napoli has an unduly bad reputation. I've always had great times there, if you aren't trying to score in Scampia or being a dick in the suburbs then in the center of town I have never had a problem. It's an incredible city, the food is way better than Rome or the more tourist destinations. The people are **** hilarious, incredibly generous too. Only good times for me there. I'm not an idiot though, if you are getting off a cruise ship wearing a rolex and speak 2 words of italian and no napoletan, you may well be getting back on the boat without your watch. Same can be said of a lot of the UK though ay. Also, from either Napoli or Pozzuoli you can get a ferry out to places like Procida and Ischia, prefer the former myself, for cheap and takes an hour or so. Procida is gorgeous. Hire a little motor boat for like €50 for the day and if you like yourself a swim with a mask and a snorkel you'll be in heaven. Then there's Salerno, which is massively underrated but has a stunning old centre with tons of good bars and restaurants. Further south still you get into Cilento, punta licosa is amazing, Paestum has the best preserved hellenic temples in mainland europe, it's cheap and great food too. All doable if you have a few days in Napoli and have a motor.

    Genoa

Genova rules, it's the Napoli of the north. Way different vibe to the rest of the north. Stayed in a great central B&B if your interested, everything doable on foot from there. The old part of town isn't huge, tons of teeny streets to get lost in. Good food too if you avoid the tourist menu shit. Fried octupus for €2 in the old port but you have to eat it standing up, there's a few good places under the arches that you have to catch at lunchtime or 4pm when they are frying to get it fresh, stupid cheap and straight off the boat into the pan. Awesome. If you don't hire a motor or a scooter, you can get to some nice private coves on the bus, I think the 38 if I remember right takes you south out of town to a nice bit of coast, volcanic (black) rocks and sand so careful in teh summer co that gets stupid hot. You have to pay for access in the private coves but the north is like that unfortunately. Been quite a few times, had a deposit down on a flat years ago but the landlord weirded out and I ended up staying in Rome. Great city, pm me if you want the B&B details,
  12. Yeah they stated that all those involved right from the get go sign an NDA and complete a form giving details of the bid and their finances, which goes to Squire Patten Boggs the big fancy pants law firm. No chance anyone actually involved in the process will be able to say anything about it publicly without getting massively screwed.

    Ubuntu

Loads of the AMD GPUs are fine with the open source drivers though, if you check before you update you should be fine. Waiting for te nvidia open source to fully support my nvidia 750 so i can try gnome on wayland with the new release. X is fine but I've been wanting to try the Wayland stuff for ages. On the dual boot thing, I like having 2 OS's "on the metal" on at least one machine, normally a lappie. It's the last place windows is hanging on by the finger nails for me, and that is entirely down to having to use some bespoke software for a job that is windows only. Otherwise I actually have weaned myself off it, only if someone sends me bleeding edge version creative cloud files do I need windows, and then I have windows in virtualbox to extract the assets from the files so I can use FOSS stuff to actually do the work. How many in here using Ubuntu on a phone/tablet?
  14. Yeah I think in terms of a valuation you are right we can't be far off the price what Lerner paid IMO, if it's more then only because 10 years have passed. As for chancers and the quality of a buyer, that's a minefield really, look at Yeung and the Venky's and a whole string of people rich enough to buy clubs that are not good news for the club. Look at Pompey... If there really are 8 parties interested, then at least Lerner and Hollis can pick the "best" of the bunch in terms of our security and what they say their ambitions are. Lottery though.
  15. Yep, only takes one "source" for all the rest to think they might get some clicks/readers from the story and run it themselves.
  16. It's pretty mental that they'd never all met as a group, email is great and everything, not quite on a par with hangouts, or skype or whatever, but even then you cannot seriously set something up of this magnitude with the former governor of the **** bank of **** england and expect that you can organise everything via mail. beggars belief.
  17. Loved DTDD, he was very funny in that.
  18. I'd surmise that was the intention of Bernstain and King, and they came up against too many obstacles (Money, Lerner, Riley it would appear too) in order to implement their plans. I am not expecting a Moyes announcement without the club being sold first, otherwise we have no budget to aim that high.
  19. "But Riley, who is married to a key member of the finance team, stays on with sources speculating his good bond with Lerner is a factor." Well well well, seems like Riley may well have been key to some of the latest shenanigans.
  20. Ha Squire Patton Boggs, I did some work for them ages ago. Anyhoo. No way on McGrath's green earth did Hollis leak those letters. I'm starting to think that Bernstein and King organised the Pat Murphy - David Moyes is interested but wants assurances on budget story the day before to prepare the ground and show they had done some work towards implementing their ideas. Then once they'd pushed the issue and Lerner didn't want to know, they resigned. Hollis would have played a part in bringing those two in, so it's clear what is happening behind the scenes at Villa is to say the least a bit complicated and dramatic, but if Hollis agrees with King that the only way forward is a change at the top and he is in talks to sell. Then I don't see him resigning.
  21. Christ, what a fool. Wonder what tomorrow will bring? Yesterday the football board implodes sending some parting shots at Randy, then the club decide to close the upper Trinity and not the Witton and Gabby gets a nice story about him openly not giving a toss. Tomorrow the FA and Football League finds some way of sending us straight to League 1?
