  1. (sorry this turned into a bit of a waffle.) Genetics has almost nothing to do with free will (or the lack thereof). We aren't pre-programmed by genetics to make decisions. Genetics might influence the set of available choices, or cause weighting variations. Any decision is made on the basis of the physical configuration of neurons in part of the meat computer in our heads. The brain generates a map of the "world" which runs about three seconds behind real time and has to be continuously guessing what is happening to you in real time. Ultimately you don't really get to make a decision about something because you already made the decision three seconds before you think that you did. Whether you like / enjoy / are attracted to something is largely outside of the decision making process (although influences the set of available choices). You can't decide to like something, liking is a spectrum which runs from "like" to "don't like". You can train your responses to any stimuli over time.
  2. I'd like to understand what a "change of government" looks like in a totalitarian dictatorship. But not in this thread.
  3. If anyone can find confirmation of him leaving, please post it, report it or PM.
  4. I'm tempted, but never have time Why do you have a spare tv?
  5. You'll get a feeling of wanting to punch them for no apparent reason..
  6. You're the only person who knows how much you value your privacy / identity. If this happened to me I'd change passwords on important sites which don't use 2FA.
  7. What changed your proxy settings? That would worry me a lot as all your traffic might have been going through a third party you didn't know about (which might have been taken down). Unless you did it by mistake it's time to fire up your malware detector and maybe change your passwords.
  8. As long as you realise that any trade deal with the EU is likely to come with the same conditions including freedom of movement.

All, I'll be turning off tapatalk in the next few days. Sorry, but it's costing too much time and money.

Chromebooks (Chromebox, Chromebit) would seem to be the obvious choice for most users. They have their own thread. Cheaper than Windows laptops and you don't need to pay for anti-virus, anti-malware or to have it re-installed when you get infected. Not much use for your current machine, but worth looking at next time you are purchasing.

Pete, It think you are missing the point about consent. Windows 10 is enrolling people into these conditions without consent. The other services you list require consent. While it's lovely that they give choices, it would be nice if they gave users control and the ability to be forgotten. They only give choices to a subset of the data they collect. Several posters in this thread have linked the sites containing the additional (continually changing) steps you have to take to keep up with the snooping Microsoft don't give you choices about.

How so? They've taken a copy of your data without consent. They've given themselves the right to use it as they see fit by their T&Cs. Therefore they own a copy of your data which they've stolen. You have no way to get this data removed nor returned.

You have to consent to use Google. Also, they allow you to remove all your data (and yes, they actually, really do - they have enough users that a few leaving make no difference to them). By using Windows 10 you consent to Microsoft having and using your data in perpetuity, which is identical to them stealing and owning it, especially as they are implementing this without consent. It's almost certainly a breach of the CMA but they own enough lobbyists to stop anything being pursued legally. I don't understand the people who express annoyance at the way Windows 10 has been forced on them, but still go back for more.

When they are prepared to do something like this to you, why would you continue using their products at all? You are now subject to their stealing and owning all of your content. I don't understand how that can be acceptable to anyone.
  16. I think it's the same as the quote and spoiler boxes that sometimes get stuck. I'm sure they're working on it. I think I can stop it being accepted, but then things like pasting tweets stops working.

So what are you going to do about it?
  18. The editor doesn't support tables. If you need to do this you'll have to edit the HTML elsewhere and paste it in. The IP.Board forums might have more information.
