how to beat the bookmaker

I'm getting pretty tempted to start matching CV's bets...

  Gotta take the losses and the wins though, dunno if people have the stomach or bank balance for it. I imagine most would give up when the inevitable 2 or 3 weeks comes where a winner cannot be found and 500 quid is lost. Once you accept these happen to everyone and just keep on going on like normal then you can make a seasons profit.

I am used to the ups and downs now but I treat each race on its own merits and don't let wins or losses effect the form reading of any race. I suppose it's a bit easier to have faith in the long term profitability when I've got past years of p&l as evidence that it works and I'm still a few years off really having a honed and disciplined approach. Still got plenty to learn.

You need to open a betting account with every bookie, you need to back at the best odds available not the odds on offer with the bookie you have. Take advantage of the offers, bet365 is the best, lodge £200 they will give you a free £200 so you right then have £400 to play with and then once there is profit you have effectively a free £200 bonus. Etc.. they all have new account offers.

The problem for me now is factoring, I now effectively can't bet with a few bookies, Skybet, Corals, Ladbrokes & Bet365 limit my stakes. Stan James have my account marked. But the way around it is my mates accounts, I now use their accounts.

As for how a season unfolds. My betting p&l is usually just ticking along up a bit down a bit staying near level or sometyimes a few hundred up until a big win spikes the p/l up. At the beginning of the month it was Houblon Des Obeaux, I was close on the weekend with Colour Squadron & Rawnaq (which I think was an excellent shout tbh). I'm very hopeful for the Hennessy at the end of the month.

Anyway enough rambling. I'll post bets now in next half hour  ;)

On the topic of betting, but not horse racing:

Degsy from Cheeky Punt/Football365 is on a storming run. He got nailed in the mailbox after three or four weeks of the season for picking a load of shite, but has since hit a streak and has posted bets which would have made something in the region of £400-£500 profit (at £10 level stakes).

What's considered a good season for you cv ? Up £1k ? Even ?

Was up just over £1k for the 4 weeks I've been back betting before I started posting bets on this thread.

Good season, well hard to say exactly as stake levels have increased over the years. Last season I made £13k at Cheltenham alone and including tennis made just over £18k for the season. £5k was kept for this years betting bank and £13k was spent on watches actually

The season before I was away for most of it travelling around the world and only caught the end of the season 2 months and did pretty well given low stakes as I was between jobs and was out of practice etc... Was gut wrenching losing the Grand National in a photo finish.

The season before, the 10/11 season was kinda the breakout one, I tried to get everyone I met to believe me Hurricane Fly was the second coming, made a fortune on him winning the Champion Hurdle and had an awesome festival, won just under €4K at that Cheltenham and don't have full records for that season but remember it had been good until then so maybe another €1k on top of that maybe.

So maturing now as a more seasoned bettor and with more structure and faith in my opinions. Learnt a lot from the other lads on our racing forum (still am learning), majority of whom are pros or would count racing as a large portion of their income.

As you can see Cheltenham makes or breaks a season usually, the key is antepost betting and I've quite a few bets on already. It's the way to get the big odds on horses. Tennis though has slowly grown as a very very good way to make money, this year has been quite exceptional tbh.

I follow tennis, love it. This season I've basically followed the usual Djoko wins Austrlian Open so bet him, Nadal wins French. Backed Djoko for Wimbledon but covered with Murray (ie if Murray won I'd be square). Then US Open Nadal had won 2 hard court masters and on his side of the draw was Federer & Ferrer who he'd easily beat. Odds of 2/1 meant if I backed e/w and he was beaten in the final I'd get my money back. So I stuck £800 e/w on him.

Then Masters Titles sometime they throw up opportunities. In Miami this year Djoko was knocked out early, Fed & Nadal weren't playing that tournament and Murray lives in Miami and had won it the previous year. Yet he was available at 10/11 so it priced him at a 52% chance of winning when it was more like 80% so had a few hundred on there. Etc.. stuff like that

Key to remember only 3 players won all the Masters and Slam titles this year. So you just ignore all the rest and focus on Djoko, Rafa and Murray.

Might be best missing the 14:40 & 15:15 at Ascot as the odds are gone pretty low on those ones and I wouldn't be tempted by them now.

I also did another double in the 3rd and 4th races at Haydock

Franciscan 4/1 & Up and Go 3/1 - £10 double

Donald McCain has a great record at this meeting.

My Ascot thoughts:

I also think Greywell Boy has a great chance in the 2.40 at Ascot. 3/1 odds

My outsider tip is Brother Brian in the 1.00 at Ascot. It should have the fitness edge over the others and is worth an each way punt currently at 10/1.

The Johnson/Hobbs combo is doing well at the moment, so I'd also go for Duke of Lucca @ 8/1 e/w with his blinkers on for the first time in the 3.15.

Johnson is riding 4 Philip Hobbs horses at Ascot today, including Dunraven Storm tipped by snowy above - all currently priced at 4/1 or better.

5p on each of these today.

why do betting sites ban people from betting on them?

You may well be very well versed in choosing horses, but surely if you're risking your own money then they cannot say "nah, you win too much" can they?

They do the same in Vegas, Casino's/Bookmakers don't like you winning :-)

But surely they can't do that?

Isn't it part of the game, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose?

If they set the odds, then it's their fault surely?

I dont get it! It should be illegal to stop people from playing a game, regardless of whether they're good at it.
