The complete and utter chants thread

I actually agree, on the Downing part atleast.

Though it's a shame that none of the John Carew songs, that were touted about on here for Makoun, took off in any big way.

In reality, the old Martin Laursen song would be the best fit for Downing.

Likewise I just posted this in the Downing thread. Just a suggestion...

What about a bit of Human League - Don't you want me?

A better lyricist than I could do something with verses.

Maybe something like:

You were playing on the left wing for Middlesbroooooooough...

Before you came here...

We picked you out, we shook you up and turned you arouuuund

Turned you into someone new

or shorten it just before the chorus:

Stew... Stewart Downing,

You know we love it whether you play on the left or riiiiiight

Stew... Stewart Downing,

Running past defenders until you are out of siiiiight.

Now cross it out from wide,

And hold on for the ride,

We're gonna score a goal and make the Holte End go mad...

Oh we love you DOW-ning!

Oh we love you... ohhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Oh we love you DOW-ning!

Oh we love you... ohhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Don`t any of you realise, its the actual fans that go to Villa Park that make

every Villa song, not someone sitting at a keyboard. He hasn`t got a song yet

and i can`t see him ever getting one until he shows the commitment that we

Holte Enders expect from our heroes. Paul Brich (Rest in Peace) didn`t have

great talent, but had the heart of a lion and we still sing his name today.

It will never happen with Downing.

^ a bit harsh considering he's probably going to be our best player going into next season and has been this season? Aswell as him probably committing to a new 4 yr contract?

Also I'd say a majority of people on here do go to games..

You assume that people on Villa Talk don't go to games? Lots of members are season ticket holders I think you'll find. I'm not but I still go to ten or more games a season, besides back in the days of Paul Birch there was no internet. Every song has to start somewhere and in this absolutely horrific season filled with bad news Downing and Albrighton have been model pros and shining lights. I think he deserves a song.

In fairness, the current Ashley Young song can be traced back to this thread.

Plenty of us are Holte Enders, myself included, though I suspect that the majority of chants have their origins in the away day pubs.

Yes away day pubs is the best way to get new songs going, most of the old songs you youngsters sing all originated from the old Aston Tavern,

and most written by Keith Bryenton.

Hi Keith Bryenton.

No not me but i do sit next to him on the lower Holte, only song i managed was the to the mongrels keep right on, was the " wipe that snot off the end of your nose song " which led to them being called blunoses.

Apologies that this is coming from a "keyboard," and not the Holte as I live in the states, but think this could become a real good song for the team. All names in the first verse changeable to suit the makeup of the squad.

EDIT: changed all references to Jesus from the lyrics of the original song to McGrath-

Hey Stewart, hey Ashley

We love it when you play together

hey Darren, hey Gabby

We come to you to see the net bulge

We see Villa in the hard eyes

of the boys who sing in the Holte End

We feel McGrath in the skillfulness of young and hopeful Villans

hey Holte End hey North Stand

We find hope in all the souls you gather

hey Villa, hey Villa

We love it when we come together

We feel McGrath in the skillfulness of young and hopeful Villans

We feel Villa in the long balls to the strikers on the corners

We feel McGrath in the simple play of honest, nervous Villans

We feel Villa in the build-up and the hard work that comes with all the trophies

lost in football, love and faith, aware

We've been Villa through and through and we're prepared

228 pages of songs and not one song, sung by the Holte End

you seem to have a really serious problem with this thread and I dont quite understand it. 228 pages of ideas for songs, some of which are shit, some of which are good.

I'd be surprised if you read all 228 pages to come up with your comment too,
