Sales tax explains a part of it, over here the price has to be listed inclusive of VAT but in the US sales tax is set locally rather than nationally so instead of having fifty different prices for the fifty different states they just list a before tax price. Sales tax on electronics in America is typically 5-9% depending on where you live and some places pay no sales tax at all, but they don't have an NHS so it kinda balances out. Of course they round up too, the console is probably £100 more here in real terms but as ever if you think something is too expensive then vote with your wallet.
