Main award:

Bale

Carrick

Hazard

Mata

Suarez

Van Persie

Young player (criteria: be 23 or younger on the opening day of the season)

Bale

Benteke

Hazard

Lukaku

Welbeck (!)

Wilshere

Michu missing out on the shortlist is unfortunate.  Have Hazard and Carrick been better than him this season?    Welbeck with his one goal is a bizarre choice for young player?

Suarez should win it  but his reputation probably will stop him.

Benteke definitely for young player. has carried us.

Except being English what counts Wilshire and Welbeck to be nominated. Welbeck has 1 goal and Wilshire has only played just over 20 gaems

Our only hope is that Bale wins the senior one and is therefore overlooked for the junior one on that basis. He could sweep both of them but IIRC a youth won the senior one before and didn't win the youth one.

As for Michu not being in the list. That's astonishing even by the big club biased standards of the FA/PL.

Wilshere has played 28 games. Lukaku has 32 (dunno how many of those are from the bench, but it's considerable) and Benteke is on 35.  Hazard has played 56!

Really strong showing from Belgium though.

The player who won the senior award but not the junior award was... Gareth Bale.  2010/11 season.   Jack Wilshere won the young player award.

The senior award and young player award have only even been won in the same season by two players,  Cristiano Ronaldo and our very own Andy Gray.

Carrick?!

I'd go Bale and Benteke.

Could Bale get both?

Theoretically yes.

Sorry, yeah I know he can technically get both. My question was more rhetorical to be honest :D

I agree with your above post, think he may well get the main one and get overlooked for young player. If that happens Benteke's got a real chance.

If not then it's Bale's

The problem is Hazard. 8 goals and 14 assists. It's between those 2 Belgians (and not Lukaku) for the yoof award assuming Bale doesn't sweep.

I think Benteke's chances are increased by the fact that he is seen as a star player while Hazard isn't, Juan Mata has been the man winning most of the headlines at Chelsea this season.

The shortlist is always a bit odd because there are players on it who have absolutely no chance of winning, but Benteke is certainly one of the players you can make an argument for.

they have also done a vote for best previous winner, 300k votes cast, didnt say if it was ex players etc or fans but gerrard won it getting over 50%, no utd player or chelsea player in the top 8 which suggests it was ex players voting, if fans vote for these kind of things they end up becoming a pissing contest

god came 3rd, henry 2nd

its other way around. These public contests are usually ruined by Liverpool fans who block vote.

I remember was some vote on Sky and Carragher had won 80% of votes for best defender in league

Fan votes are bullshit anyway.  All they are is an exercise into seeing which forum gets it's organised voting campaign organised the best.
