PFA Player of the year 2012/13

I do sometimes think the young player award should maybe be a bit, well, younger.

 

Or maybe be a "breakthrough" award or something. So for players who have played their first full season (more than 20 games, for example)

 

Just seems a bit strange that we have these players who are playing in their 5th or 6th seasons still winning young player of the year

was interesting argument for a rookie of the year(1st season or 1st PL season) instead of a young player. Also a great argument on Guardian on why Ben Davies was never nominated

Sounds like Reginald D. Hunter went down like a Lead Balloon last night

 

He went on to use "n*****" to refer to Luis Suarez in a joke soon after and there was a sharp intake of breath from the people around me.

They should've hired a "clean" comedian if they didn't want to offend anyone.

From what I've seen of him, Hunter likes to poke fun at racial stereotypes.

Probably not the best choice of comedian for the occasion/crowd.

As many have said the PFA are setting a dangerous precedent by trying not to pay someone not living up to expectations.

They are giving him fantastic publicity and some very easy jokes (bunch of old white men expecting a black man from the deep south to work for free? slavery jokes aplenty) which means this is quite the win for Hunter.  If he doesn't particularly need the money then he can find the most inappropriate charity to donate it to and score even more points off of them.

Call me cynical, but I imagine the selection process went something along the lines of

 

"We need to look un-racist. Are there any black comedians?

Ah, there's one. Book him!"
