What if you damage your phone and you're still locked into a contract for 23 months. Unlikely, but possible. Then you've got to buy another phone and you're paying for a phone and a tariff you don't have rather than just a phone.

What if you damage your new phone after a month and you still want to make calls on your monthly rolling contract, do you splash out yet another 300 to 400 quid to replace the phone you only bought last month?.

As I said I am on a one month rolling contract so its not like I cant see the positives however I have to say that if I wanted an IPhone 5s or Galaxy S5 it would be tempting to get one on a 24 month contract. I get that some other people would rather wander around the Bullring in Small Heath top but I don't have any strong feelings one way or the other.

  • 1 month later...

My contract has come to an end so I'm looking to cancel it and replace it with a giff gaff sim.

Or at least I was planning on giff gaff but was wondering if that's still considered the best option for that kind of deal (i.e. non-contract) or are there now better alternatives.

I'm not too fussed about minutes but would like unlimited data and a hefty text allowance. I'd be looking at the £12 per month goodybag from giff gaff (250 mins, unlimited texts unlimited internet) or the equivalent from other networks.

I've been on Three's deal for £12 per month - 200 mins, unlimited tex t and data.  Pretty sweet.  Not sure if that deal is still available or was only for existing Three customers as I can't see it on their website.  I think it was called the Ultimate 200 Internet deal.

Only problem with Three is I thought they used the same network/masts as EE, and the coverage I get on EE currently is absolutely appalling.

Anyone know if that's true? (I have googled it but can't really find anything conclusive)

My contract with T Mobile has expired thankfully. Not sure what to get now to be honest. 300 texts and 500 minutes plus whatsapp is all I need really. Don't like to go on the internet on my phone because I spend so much time on the net at work and home. Budget is around the £20 mark.

All suggestions welcome, thank you in advance.

I had no issues with Three but then I live in London.  Def had issues when I went to a more rural area.  I am in the process of switching to Vodafone so hopefully it will be better.  I think Three are pretty decent plus you don't pay extra for 4G, free 0800 numbers and international calls

I guess the beauty of not being in a proper contract means I can try Three for a month and if the coverage is as bad as I get on EE then I can easily change straight away.

The reason I was leaning towards Giff Gaff is I know from previous experience that I get good reception everywhere I need it with O2, so that would be a safe bet reception wise.

Virgin are an MVNO on EE's network. My understanding of three is that they have their own BTS although some were co-located with the old one2one BTSs. Get a PAYG SIM and try it - it's the only way to be sure.

Ta, will do.

Think I'll go with Giff Gaff, as per my original plan, and then may look into Three if I have any problems.

That's prudent. And also not locked in so you can't really lose. I'd recommend not porting your number until you've checked the coverage (unless you are already on o2 ofc).

  • 5 weeks later...

Are regular, frequent signal dropouts that happen every week and last for half a day enough to prove poor service and get out of my phone contract?

The last one happened from just before midnight on wednesday until about 20 minutes ago, I had to switch my phone off & on again and just received 30 texts all at once.

Surely they are not upholding their part of the contract?

Only been on giff gaff 2 weeks and they've just emailed to say they're no longer doing unlimited data.

So my goody bag goes down to 3 GB.

Which us probably enough for me most of the time, but I'd like the option of unlimited when I needed it.

What on earth do you do that uses up 3GB of internet a month? Wank at work using 4G to view porn videos??

Ha!.

Well I don't, like I said. But I'd like the option to use something like Netflix or Sky Go when I'm not on wifi and that'll use a hell of a lot of data, especially sky go.

So yeah most of the time it'll be enough, I'd just like the option.

It's easy to get through data when the limits are taken off. I used to get by with 1GB, but since moving to Three and having unlimited 4G, I've averaged 20GB a month. Streaming music on high quality, or watching Netflix burns through data pretty rapidly. I tend to be doing one or the other for at least a couple of hours a day on the way to from/work and at lunch.

Exactly. At the moment I read on the way to work but once I'm finished my current book I'll probably watch Netflix on my commute. So I'll soon get through the data.

Annoying.
