January 2013 Transfer Talk

I would be amazed if we are in for Scott Sinclair considering he has already played for Swansea and Man City this season and can't play for a 3rd club.

Either someone at Villa needs shooting or whoever made up this particular story is over paid and should be serving fries.

Have heard myself that Dale Stephens is practically a Villa player too, after we can a undisclosed bid accepted for him; don't know much about him tbh. Same with Leerdam, looks bit lightweight in my opinion, he'll be getting pushed off the ball by David Silva etc

are we still talking about players who aren't allowed to play for us?

Indeed But would radio WM report a story without the research of ohh he's played for Swansea AND City??

Are there any rules in place which limit how many clubs a player can play for in one season?

Currently under the FIFA Transfer Regulations a football player is unable to play for more than three teams in one season. This applies whether the player has been transferred or simply is on loan with that club. This also applies regardless of what country that player has plied his trade in, whether that is in Europe, Africa or South America. As long as a player has represented a club in a league under the adjudication of a FIFA Member Association they will only be able to play for three different clubs. However, this does mean that a football player is free to represent a total of three different clubs in any league in the world over the course of one season.

He's pretty good don't get me wrong but I would rather go for Vilhena and PSV is chasing after Leerdam's signature as well.

Isn't Vilhena like 17 years old? He'd be a very good signing, as long as a more experienced midfielder is being bought in as well.

On a side note, why do Villa fans all over Twitter keep retweeting this Villa_Source guy like he is gospel? He had about 5 followers a week ago.

According to a tweet earlier on Twitter he (Sinclair) apparently can, "Trying to find out about this with Sinclair. Apparantly FIFA rules would allow it".

I remember BBC WM did call Bennett right as well in August.

I knew this window would be painful, Dale Stephens WHO, Kelvin Leerdam WHO and Jody Clasie WHO,didn't KEA come from the same league not so long ago. Nuff said.

We all said that about Ashley Westwood - to date it's hard to argue he's not been our best MF.

Plus he hardly ever gives the ball away, is intelligent with his positioning & has a eye for a good pass.

Did you read the article I posted last night about Stephens? - he's considered one of THE best passers of the ball in the Championship.

- Westwood came from Lgue 1

Might be a complete flop but maybe Lambert sees what we all see - we can't keep the ball to save our lives... Dale Stephens can!

His teammates describe him as 6ft 1, AM box to box - like Bannan but better - take that FWIW. Plays as part of a MF 3 at Charlton interesting.

He's not the DM we badly need who can tackle, win the ball & distribute but he does like taking the ball of CBs & running into the box apparently

Watched Newcastle V Everton earlier - Masterclass by EFC on how to play 6 minutes of injury time under the cosh & not concede a goal.(Fancy that!)

Part of reason I think we concede late is cos we're exhausted chasing the ball for practically 90mins. Keep the ball you conserve energy!

Welcome Dale - if you're as good as Westwood we'll be more than happy!

Dealt with 2 pages back. What you quote seems to be someone's comment, not the rules. But also, re-read the last sentence of what you quote. The reason for that caveat is given in what was quoted 2 pages back.

I'd like to think you were right and he comes in and does a good job, cos we need him, what about Dorrans?

Well, yes. Few journos research anything these days. They just press retweet, or pass it off as their own, no checking or anything. Some of them don't even do that, they just sit in the pub and completely make things up.

I think it will most likely be Stephens +1 in for the Cm spots. The talk of Leerdam/Trotter makes me think it will be someone of that ilk coming in as well... Then it's a Cb and a Forward and we are looking better (does depend on said spots being filled with good players!)

The other point is about signings like Ashley Westwood, Dale Stephens even Mattie Lowton etc is that they will and are showing up our existing squad

as being technically just not up to Premier Lgue standards!

How ridiculous that a Crewe academy graduate looks like he should be playing at Barcelona compared to the likes of Herd & Albrighton et al

So not surprised to hear rumours of a clear out.

Mick Dennis from the Express wrote a fab piece on Paul lambert over weekend & I emailed him to thank him & made a couple of comments

- he's an ardent Norwich fan. Basically said forget the public calm - Lambert hates losing. - & via grapevine - Lambert is furious over

Xmas stuffings!

Dennis was kind enough to email me back from West Ham game - sed Paul Lambert is a difficult person to get on with but an outstanding manage

I think because of the pickle we're in Lambert & Lerner (who watched the Wigan debacle, which had to be the worst performance by a Villa team,

I have ever seen!) that Lambert will be given immediate license to get in some experienced short term fixes - Trust me Lerner was told in no uncertain terms

that watching Villa struggle for the 3rd year running cos we're playing reserves + Benteke & a few others is simply unacceptable by someone

close to the club.

Ian Taylor got it spot on and tweeted after the game We have NO SPINE & that is exactly what Lerner was told.

We need experienced, quality CB, DM & if Bent's off a ST for starters - apart form any other plans Lambert may have

Personally I'd test the Baggies for Chris Brunt - so he can teach the whole team how to tackle & simply get stuck in with gritted teeth as someone mentioned!

Next I'd get in Scott Parker as a replacement for Petrov. Mark Davies would be those plans somewhere to. CBs eg Lescott, Dawson or how about Samba from Russia

However perhaps Henke can marvel up another DM Bentequeske gem from somewhere overseas etc,,,, let's just wait & see.

We need to get the quality standard in that squad up! Loans, short term fixes outside the Lambert normal parameters but heck we need to get up that table by hook or by crook & stay in the Premier Lge!

Pretty much all of our current central midfielders that are limited in the following ways: not quite up to standard physically, don't contribute going forward, don't have enough composure to keep possession for a significant period of time and don't have the ability to protect the defence.

Maybe versatility is a good thing, maybe Lambert is looking for the modern footballer who is not necessarily a specialist, more an all rounder. But the fact is we cannot afford or attract a player that is brilliant at all of those things and we have a severe deficiency in most of those areas.

Any center mid we bring in has to cover some of these issues. Would Dale Stephens or Kelvin Leerdam - today's links - be significantly different to what we already have? I'm not sure. Stephens is supposedly good in possession but isn't really an offensive player or a defensive rock. He's quite tall but that is no guarantee of strength to hold players off, as we saw with Gardner last season. Leerdam looks very slight and not tall at 5"10. He is clearly not an offensive player, I have heard that he is not particularly special on the ball and looks a walking card.

I could be very wrong, but it doesn't sound like these players would transform our midfield or the way we currently play. What I want to see beyond anything is quality. The quality that can protect our defence, control the game and get us moving in the final third. Our survival depends on it.

rumours on net that says this about Pierre-Emerick Aubeyamang wanting to come:

After conceding seventeen goals during the festive period, you might have thought many players would be put off by the prospect of a move to Paul Lambert’s side. But St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is hoping the Villans make a move for his services after stalling on talks with Italian side Fiorentina. The player is rumoured to be keen to prove himself in the Premier League and is willing to help Villa improve on their lacklustre season.

According to talkSPORT the Gabonese international, who joined the AC Milan youth team in 2007, has been catching the eye of scouts from all over Europe after netting eight times in sixteen appearances for the Ligue 1 side. St Etienne are keen to hold on to the forward but a fee of around £7 million is rumoured to be enough to secure the player’s signature. With Darren Bent seemingly set for an exit from the Midlands club, Lambert is searching for a goal scorer to support the impressive Christian Benteke."
