Football clubs not named after their town/city

But Old Trafford isnt. It's not in Salford either though, it's in Stretford. ;)

I think this thread just conforms what we already know, that boundaries of settlements are fluid and difficult to define precisely. That and TRS-T is weird. :P

The notion that any sporting entity should change it's name because a government or a local council redraws an arbitrary line on a map is so far removed from a fan's attachment to their club as to be completely ignorant of sport itself. JMHO.

But Blues fans are winding up TRS-T about how Villa arent named after the city they play in BOF! Perhaps we should pool our resources, invent a time machine and go back to 1911 and right this wrong?

Yes according to Wiki, Old Trafford Stadium is in Old Trafford which is an area of the Town of Stretford in the Trafford Borough of Greater Manchester.

What about Villa Park?

Is it in Aston or Witton?

And St Andrews?

Small Heath or Bordesley or Bordesley Green?

And the Hawthorns?

West Bromwich or Birmingham?

:)

If its one up-manship and TRS-T is worried about his blues friends maybe we can be West Midlands Villa then Birmingham comes under us!? Seriously Aston Villa is a magical name those that are intelligent know we are from Brum those that do not don't count!

But Aston Villa had existed for a hundred years before some politicians invented the West Midlands! (and now lets begin the cycle again...)

Rome is in the region of Lazio abit like Brum being in the West Midlands.

And while were at it the West Midlands needs to be renamed to Greater Birmingham :winkold:

Or perhaps tell Coventry to go back to Warwickshire and we can call it Birmingham & Black Country to satisfy the Yam Yams.
