The 2011–12 UEFA Europa League is the third season of the competition since it was renamed from the UEFA Cup.

It began on 30 June 2011 with the first legs of the first qualifying round, and will end on 9 May 2012 with the final to be held at Stadionul Naţional in Bucharest, Romania.

As part of a trial that started in the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League, two extra officials - one on each goal line - are being used in all matches of the competition.

Porto are the current holders; they will play in the 2011–12 UEFA Champions League, and will not be able to defend their title unless they finish third in the group stage and are transferred to the Europa League.

A testament to how ridiculous this once-proud tournament has become, that it's **** started before July.

this is just the 1st qualifying round. not the main tournament.

the 1st qualifying round in the Champions league is also starting soon as well.

and the FA Cup for us starts in January, but the qualifying rounds start months earlier.

I wonder if they will kick Blues out?

It will do Europe a favour!

It would also being SHA a favour, so despite how hilariously embarrassing that would be for them, I hope it doesn't happen. I wish them a long, tiring and expensive Europa League campaign in fact!
