theunderstudy
Very interesting line-up. Should be Downing over Pires tho, by a mile.
AVFC-Prideofbrum
God knows if he's resting players or dropping them. Guess we'll see that at Blues.
ryanvilla_1994
The thought of Pires lumbering around the pitch makes me cringe
TheTransferWindow
I wonder if Lichaj could be going on loan to another FA cup side? Otherwise he is reeeally being taught a harsh lesson for that Man City game. Gets criticized, dropped to the bench, 20 year old replacement brought in on loan, then completely dropped from the team. LancsVillan Posted January 8, 2011 Moderator Share Posted January 8, 2011 Very interesting line-up. Should be Downing over Pires tho, by a mile. Someone over Pires - yes. Downing - NO for me he has to start putting in a shift and working for the team, which means tackling and supporting his fullback when the opposition have the ball, he does neither. So I reckon it'll be Bannan out wide left with NRC and Pires in the centre; Ash 'free' role.
gilbertoAVFC
Looking at our midfield NRC needs to take a lot of responsibility today. The rest of the midfield look very lightweight! It's similar to the Fulham midfield that started and arguably that was our best away performance of the season in terms of the football we played. I agree Downing has been poor of late, but aside from moving Ash there (which Ash appears to be refusing to do) what else can we play there? BB isn't suited to a wing role. For me, I'd play Ireland, give him a chance or Delfouneso up top. IF you were to drop Downing.

I agree, Downing has been the best of a bad bunch this season, don't forget he's our top scorer aswell, I'm sure he'll play some part in this game, probably most of the second half coming on for Pires. AshVilla
I can see this being like another famous game in our history which we had under o'dreary at doncaster.
Jez
Downing's been our best player this season imo. Which is why i think he is rested today and not dropped.
guyavfc
So much for Ireland having another chance, can't even get on the bench for a 3rd round FA cup match.
AVFC-Prideofbrum
Aye, until we play Blues on Wednesday, we don't know if this is dropped or rested. I'd guess Petrov and Downing are rested. I live in hope that this is the defence he wants though. (with a left back)
