I wonder if there is anyone in this 'discussion' that is willing to admit that they feel sorry for how Venables has been treated and portrayed in the media?

I feel no sympathy for him. He doesn't really deserve any.

Like Snowy I have a feeling of regret for those who will now be under suspicion in the dock through no fault of their own simply for being the wrong age and gender. I feel sorry for Bulger's parents who have had their lives broken by this and clearly are still deeply affected by it, and are played by the media for sales enticing them into a vicious circle.

I feel for society as well, that this kind of thing threatens it. the act itself is bad enough. The reaction whipped up by self serving newspapers pandering to rhetoric and discourse does potentially more damage as the cartoon in the Guardian today, linked earlier, hints quite clearly at.

But theres no sympathy for Venables from me. The only thing I can hope of him is that the evil he did has given rise to a good elsewhere that might help this never be repeated.

Actually, that is an admission of what we term here, Posting for Effect or PFE, which is clearly against site guidelines. you posted something which wasn't true, just for effect. Don't do that again - Bicks

I did apologies.

Do you believe then that some people are born to be killers no matter what happens to them after birth? Like some sort of “evil gene” passed down from your parents??

...

There are thousands and thousands of children born every year to poor (not in the financial sense) parents, and not all of these kids go out and snatch a toddler and proceed to torture and murder him.

So are they born with a genetic defect?

Just because some people react one way to something as a child doesn't mean everyone does.

But you get the right (or should I say wrong?) combination of factors and they all combine together you can come up with a killer.

It is important to learn what these factors are so that future killers can be prevented from developing.

It's also worth attempting to undo some of the factors so the person can become a regular contributing member of society again.

But whos to say a child raised by millionaires, given privat schooling etc etc. couldnt turn into a cold blooded killer? I dont think there is a pattern.

Probably this this poor bugger:

A father of two says he fears for his safety after he was falsely accused on Facebook of being Jon Venables.

By 8am today more than 2,370 people had joined a group on the site asking whether Venables was David Calvert.

The group was removed after complaints to Facebook, but the rumours persist on other sites such as Yahoo Answers, with people claiming to have learned his identity via text messages.

Calvert, who is originally from Liverpool, now lives in Fleetwood, near Blackpool. He was the subject of similar false rumours five years ago and endured a torrent of abuse. He had to produce family photo albums to prove his identity to doubters, and a panic button was installed at his home.

At the time Calvert said he was terrified for his partner and their young sons. "People have been turning up at my neighbours' houses with pictures of the killers printed off the internet, and saying one of them is me. Now I hear that threats are being made and I'm worried that someone will come for me or my girlfriend or hurt my kids," he said. "I'm too scared to go out of the house now. I have these people saying they will get me out no matter what and I'm terrified at what they might do."

He said the trouble started six months earlier when he mentioned to a neighbour that he had served time in a Liverpool prison when he was younger. He had served a four-month prison sentence for fraud.

More likely to turn into a spoilt , arrogant , smug sob than a psychopathic killer/torturer :P

Any white male 27 years of age or thereabouts is a potential target for being accused of being Venebles. Sad..

I think that is going a bit far mate.

Any 27 year old up in court for child pornography charges, or round about that age is a target, as these things are always published in local, regional newspapers.

No, he's pretty much right, theres been no confirmation of what Venables is alleged to have done, thus any 27 yo appearing in court any time soon on a breaking of a parole is potentially at a disadvantage at a hearing.

Any individuals you want to ask directly, because I see no-one who has at all suggested even minutely that end.

I havent either.

Thats why I asked the question?? :?

Apologies.

It just seemed a rather loaded question. I am too cynical at times.

(I think you could forgive me that after being accused of being an example of the reasoning of all societies failings, and as 'an apologist for the most of heinous of crimes', a statement only outdone in it's stupidity by the fact it remains in this thread).

I think your statement about Venables orignal sentence being right because it meant he lost his childhood beats anything i have ever wrote, in terms of stupidity.

So what, he lost 8 years.... a child lost a life, a mother lost her chance to see her child's first day at school, first sports day, first nativity play, and countless other things a parent hopes to see.

I stand by my original statement.

I think you're stealing oxygen from the populace but I try not to announce it.

I stand by the statement.

Shame but this topic has run its course now, we're just left with the remnants of an interesting discussion but mainly we've descended into farce and name calling, so it's tme for the big padlock

Wow, this country is seriously **** up.

Nah. Not the whole country mate. Just a few who form the "baying mob" who wish to administer some sort of vigilante "justice", and of course the tabloids who just love whipping up a frenzy.

I'd day the silent majority probably follow the sensible line on this.

Still can't quite get my head around the whole "let us hang 8 year old boys from the neck until dead" argument though.
