He really went through an evolution of football as when he started playing it was in the old W M formation, before the now traditional 4-4-2, or 4-5-1, etc. Aitken went through a lot at Villa with the decay of the old Villa board with the sell-off of the old training ground, the takeover, the division three years and recovery, and the move to Bodymoor. It very much straddled different eras at Villa. ............and while there was plenty to say during those years( make opinions about) Charlie stayed stumm......always the stoic personality and pillar of loyalty....He was a rare breed of a man.

pintpotvilla
Charlie played in the 1st game I went to in February 1966 against Blackburn (a 3-1 win). I also remember him scoring the winner in a 1-0 win at Tranmere on a cold Friday night in thr 3rd Division. He was also the Host when I took my Dad to his last game in the corner box in the North stand. That was John Carews debut. Carew scored in a 1-0 win. Charlie had a great way of leaning into his winger as they ran making it almost impossible to get round him. I shall miss him greatly RIP Charlie HEITS
