EA Sports FC

I bought this, gave it 2 hours, and have now returned it for a refund. No difference from FIFA 22, so I'll just keep playing that, and not given EA Sports any more of my money. I don't want to support a game that is designed to trick children into giving money to buy packs with their parents' credit cards. It may as well be one of those mobile games that get advertised on TikTok now.

I always found that EA made as little a change as possible to the annual release of all of their sports games. You buy the new one, play it for an hour and realise that the basic gameplay is the same as it was last year. Probably worth buying them in four year cycles.

I've only recently started playing computer games again and mainly EAFC, I just find it so hard to deal with the same move every time, they run to the byline, cut inside, pass it and it's impossible to stop the player from shooting, with it almost inevitable it goes in with the top strikers.  I'm OK playing against people who seem to make it like a football match and try different moves but some people just do the same thing over and over again and it becomes pointless.

This is why I've not had a footy game in years!

This was a persistent problem in FIFA games from my memory. People find the loophole/flaw in the gameplay that breaks the game.

You can double tap and hold R1/RB which will make your defenders mark the players in the box to intercept the cut backs.

Those type of cut backs have been nerfed about 5 times already but are still way too overpowered. Was an absolute nightmare when the game first came out.

Now free on PSN so I have downloaded it for the weekend.  Refused to buy it anymore but I'm hopeful they have improved the career mode and will be a decent freebie.  Lost interest in playing angry 13 year olds online years ago

I'll warn you now going in, the big feck up they've made this year which they haven't bothered to patch out is players wanting to leave if you are not hitting all (and I do mean all) of your board objectives (and yes, some of those objectives are still utterly nonsensical e.g. keep 5 consecutive sheets in away league matches). Even your regular starters, as soon as board happiness drops from the top star marker to just the green thumbs up, you'll potentially be staring down the barrel of multiple transfer requests. I've even had new signings hand in one a month after joining the club, and players missing through suspension are treated as if you've dropped them. This could all be worked around, of course, if they'd fixed the now ~5 year ongoing bug whereby as soon as a player hands in a transfer request, there is literally nothing you can do as you are barred from being able to negotiate with them, regardless of if you play them every game from then on and get their happiness back up to full. Absolutely maddening that this is still a thing.

There are mitigations and workarounds, the first is obviously try and hit all your objectives ASAP. I'll have seasons where the first thing I do is sign three random shite Japanese free agents, then immediately release them (the 2 player release cap has finally been lifted at least, now you can fire whoever you want) just to tick off objectives. The big workaround for players handing in transfer requests will require you to keep some money aside until the end of the season, probably between £5m-£10m depending on your squad, as what you'll be doing is waiting to the very last day of the season, navigating to the squad hub (you can't do this directly on the last day as the menu options change, but if you open up emails and switch over to player messages, any of the messages you have in there should have a shortcut button that will take you to the squad hub) and releasing the player/s who've asked to leave. If said player is on a big wage, this might cost a bit, hence the keeping some cash aside until season end. Then proceed to the next campaign and on the first day, you can immediately pick the player straight back up from free agency (if you did this in the same season you'd be blocked from approaching, and if you do it too soon or leave it too long another team will pick them up, hence releasing on the last day of season 1 and re-signing on the first day of season 2). This does have an occasional fringe benefit of counting towards any season 2 objectives where you need to sign a particular type or quality of player.

Oh and there's another new bug whereby if a player picks up a suspension in European competition, until they get to the next European game where that suspension is served, they won't regenerate stamina in league games, regardless of what you do with them or how big a gap it is (and this can last over season end). Truly bonkers.

Have fun!

Ah you'll be grand then, I think! 👍  I don't particularly do Player Career myself, but I sometimes like to start one with an older player who's got a proper face-scan, immediately retire and transition them into management.  Adds a level of challenge as you've no idea which club you'll get to start at, particularly if you then want to target a specific club to ultimately manage.  Think it took me 5 years to get Gary Cahill the Villa job in last year's game.
