The VT Definitive All Time Greatest Movies by Genre

It has kind of started within the Film Thread but probably deserves its own thread in order to keep the Film thread for new films and what folk are watching!

Anyway film buffs - give me the top 3 films in the following Genres!

Comedy

Drama

Action

Sci-Fi

Horror

Western

Musical

Foreign Language

Christmas Movie (😉)

Documentary (added for @bickster)

I appreciate limiting it to 3 films might be difficult for some 😬

As for my choices, as Arnie said ‘I’ll be back’

Can we get a Brit crime/Essex geezer movie option please 🙏

One by one as I think about it

Austin Powers - probably an age thing more than anything else, I was 13 when it came out so just the right level of immaturity, me and my older brother were watching it upstairs and my mkm came to check on us because she thought we were up to no good laughing that much, not sure how it would hold up today

In Brugges - then this would probably only work as I've gotten older, the 2 leads are brilliant, it's got the perfect level of profanity as comedy as its expertly written and delivered

Hot Fuzz - first 2 were easy but this isn't a dead cert, it's a better film than SotD for me, better cast overall and the sillier moments work better

Action

As discussed in the other thread:

1. Terminator 2

2. Aliens

3. Die Hard (just pipping Predator)

Could all of these be classed as sci-fi films though, apart from Die hard obviously

Musical

South Park, Bigger Longer and Uncut

Aladdin

The Lion King

I really dislike standard musicals.

i took south park off my comedy list for the musical list, its top of it by a distance

agree on musicals, tonight will hopefully be my 4th and final sitting to try and get through the new west side story film

Sci-Fi action I guess.

Well apart from Die Hard which is of a course, a Christmas movie, not sure why I included that in action

I assume there’s no romantic comedy section because we’re all in agreement that the genre reached it’s pinnacle the moment when Harry met Sally.
