And now Hamilton has tested positive for covid. No news yet on his replacement this weekend. Fingers crossed it's Russell, but I can't imagine Williams letting him go. Mercedes' official reserve driver is Stoffel Vandoorne.

I’m surprised he managed to catch the virus during the race weekend. I’d have thought everyone there was tested multiple times.

He caught it beforehand apparently. Someone he was in contact with didn't test positive until after the weekend though.

I would love them to give Russell the seat for the last two weeks as an audition. Failing that, Hulkenberg to finally get a podium.

Do the drivers not get tested at the start of the weekend?

Would be nice of Niko H got the drive.

It takes days for it to become a positive, hence the need to isolate for 2 weeks after a close contact. Incubation innit.

Sure, I assumed he’d been there since Thursday so prolly picked it up over the weekend if he’s positive Monday. I’m not sure what the minimum duration is from exposure to positive test.

Either way, doesn’t really matter. He’ll get a couple of weeks to chill out and look at his trophies.

I'm all of a sudden quite excited for Bahrain round 2. I'd love to see Stoffel back.

Getting demolished by Alonso, especially in Quali, really killed all of his hype.

He would've really had to be a generational talent not to get run over as a rookie by Alonso though. Would be a nice feelgood comeback story if is him they choose he does well/wins.

F1 Twitter has just confirmed that Russell gets the seat. If he's close to or even beats Bottas with no time in the car  to prepare then the pressure to put him in next year will grow massively.

Fantastic news, absolutely buzzing for George. He should be in that seat next year.

Lewis’s seat? 😲 I bet that is more than 1000/1 😂

Being serious now, I’m not sure Mercedes would go with 2 British drivers.

And Schumacher has just been confirmed at Haas. They'll actually be interesting next season.

Hopefully they'll be interesting in the way that watching justice porn is interesting and Schumacher jr smashes that jumped up little shit so badly Haas decide the money he brings isn't worth it and cut his contract short

I've seen quite a few negative comments about Mazepin in general i.e. not related to a promotion to F1. I must admit I'm not familiar with his personality. Is he a bit of a knob or is it just the pay-driver element people are angry about? Some of the comments I read about him were vicious, which I found a bit odd.

He is very young still. Only 3 weeks older than Mick Schumacher at 21 and while his junior pedigree isn't stellar, it's not bad and it's better than some. 2nd in GP3 in 2018, 3rd in Asian F3 this year and sitting 6th in F2.

I'm never overly fond of the pay drivers that just use parents money but he's a horrible little turd by all accounts. Notably punched Ilott (who is currently beating him in F2) in the face for spoiling a lap in free practice.

All of the other drivers seem to hate him and there was something about him threatening to "out" Russell. If Haas hadn't signed MSC I'd have happily rooted for them to finish dead last every race next year.
