bickster Posted March 30, 2018 Moderator Share Posted March 30, 2018 Vive le Void is the new side project of Sanaa Yamada from Moon Duo (which in turn is a side project of Wooden Shjips, Ripley Johnson). That kinda tells you the territory this is in. Laid back Californian trippy psychedelic meanderings.
rjw63
I've never liked Oasis, in fact I think they're wank, but that new Noel Gallagher song Holy Mountain is an impressive production (ok apparently it's not that new but I only heard it yesterday). Bits of Phil Spector and The Beach Boys lurking in there, nice work Mr Monobrow

Sounds like "Ça plane pour moi" to me.

I heard it on Absolute radio a couple of years ago and had it on my MP3 all summer long. Just had a wish to listen to it again last weekend so posted it on here. I heard an interview with him about making the album and he pretty much admitted that it was his collaborator (don't know who it was) who forced the sound and told him to drop all his previous stuff at the door. He made it sound like it was his idea but the way he described it, it was mainly down to the other guy.

Must have been 1987 because I was Front of House Manager (organising Security / Crew etc), my mate Jane was House Manager (Sorting out backstage riders etc). Gig was over, load out was underway in the main hall but there were a few people still finishing their drinks in the bar. I'd nipped backstage (across the stage not through the actual dressing room door round the back), partly to see if Jane needed a hand and partly to liberate any rider that might have been going spare. There was a rather frantic knock on the external access door to backstage, Jane asked me to answer it, so I did. It was one of the external security guys we used and he looked really odd and could hardly speak, he was absolutely bricking it, then I notice there was someone else to his side. The doorman eventually said something along the lines of "This is my next door neighbour, he wants to meet Curtis Mayfield, I'm in the process of telling him that this wasn't on when he makes eyes to the side this bloke was on and the mans got a pistol on view inside his jacket, so I just blurted out "Gimme a minutes" and shut the door and locked it again, ran upstairs to get everyone out. Long story short... instead of evacuating the area over the stage and running away as you can imagine most people would. Curtis just said... "OK let him in, you don't get brought up in Chicago and not know how to deal with this." We tried to persuade him that this really wasn't the best course of action but he was having none of it. So we let the bloke with the gun in... 10 minutes later the bloke was walking away, happy and got his autograph Huge sigh's of relief all round. Curtis didn't bat an eyelid. Like I said, Cool as Ice And that's the story of how I survived the first instance of someone using a gun in my general direction

chrisp65
Aah, now that particular track, No More Heroes, was absolutely seminal for me. We were sat in the car, outside a shop waiting for my mum. Just me and my dad, listening to the radio. This came on and I recognised it straight away and said I liked it. My old man's taste was very straightforward. White blokes doing stadium rock. He went nuts that I could like something so shit, so awful, so lacking in music, so not Queen, so not Joe Walsh, something clearly horrible. It actually made him angry. He switched it off. I thought, 'eh, I'm on to something here'.

bickster Posted April 2, 2018 Moderator Share Posted April 2, 2018 This is interesting, meant to be filed under Jazz but don't let that put you off. Let this put you off instead... improvised music that to my ears is channeling some Bristol style post-punk with an awful lot of Sheffield scene industrial and a sax player, very much in the style of Colin Stetson. I wouldn't imagine many on here would like this but there are a few who may appreciate it
