decavfc
Lerner will not sack Lambert but he will walk There is only so much any human being can take I completely agree with this comment. I think if we are seriously struggling by Christmas time, I can see lambert walking. If lambert walks before we have new owners, I think that could put us in a very bad position. I can't imagine many managers would want to come to a struggling club knowing the owner is looking to sell as quite possibly the new owners would want their own man in.

AshVilla
Depends how much he values his health and pride The bloke is already rich and i envisage booing twice as bad as last season if were near the bottom 3 come Christmas which is likely given our fixtures
Mantis
What have our fixtures got to do with it? We would have played practically everybody by Christmas regardless of our what order the fixtures are.
AshVilla
Because i think momentum is important and we have a squad still filled with mostly kids We do not have a single easy fixture in september october time so unless we start the season well and get points on the board straight away we will again be relying on other teams losing A few back to back thrashings the booing will start and heads will drop because confidence is important but i guess this is where the manager earns his money What worries me is we seemed to do worse last season against the crapper sides in the division yet get results against the odds against the better sides Based on the way our fixtures are placed at the start of next season we need to be more consistent against the poorer sides in the division and still get a couple of results against the better teams to remain in contention which seems a tall order imo Edited June 26, 2014 by AshVilla
Mantis
As we saw last season we did well in a number of games against the top teams and did poorly against the lesser sides, so I don't think it makes much of a difference. PieFacE Posted June 26, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted June 26, 2014 Yup I agree. momentum and confidence is important. Spetember/October could absolutely destroy the players confidence. The one thing I would say though is that Benteke comes back soon after that, so that will give the players a boost.
IwishIwasalivein1982
The way the team plays I could see September/October picking up the most points. Then getting destroyed by the smaller teams after. Similar to what happened after we beat Chelsea.

samjp26
I know people will argue otherwise, but if Lambert resigned I think we'd be in even more trouble. Keane for example is coming due to his friendship with Lambert, if Lambert left I don't think we could attract a better manager in our current state let alone an assistant. Him staying is to do with more than money IMO, he could easily get another job. Edited June 27, 2014 by samjp26

The McLeish comparisons don't really make a lot of sense, as Lambert doesn't have the kind of disasters on his CV that McLeish does. Even his time at Villa I'd say hasn't been a disaster when you consider the conditions he's had to work under.
omariqy
In our current position I think we are better off with Lamber than without. I would like to see what he could do with better money. However, my worry is his tactical inpetitude and awful football. Maybe that would improve with better personnel? Am I clutching?

I'm not saying we won't be the best job he will ever have, I'm simply saying he could easily walk and get another job, he could easily go elsewhere and be paid more than enough money to live comfortably. IMO he isn't staying because he is clinging onto his contract, I genuinely believe he wants to turn things around. I also believe that if he left, we'd have difficulty bringing anybody in at all due to our current situation, let alone somebody who is 'guaranteed' to do a better job than Lambert (i.e. staying up). I don't think he's able to get the best out of the squad he has. While more money will allow the chance to sign better players I don't think his tactical decisions and his approach to the game will allow better quality to have a big impact on the team. Completely off topic but they had a chain like that outside the college apartments in Cork (they were much lower & much longer to stop people parking) but one of the lads I was with was after a few and decided he'd jump it his trailing leg caught it and he smacked his head off the pavement so hard, I nearly peed myself.
