  1. Lineup: Guzan, Bacuna, Vlaar, Clark, Bertrand, Westowood, Delph, Albrighton, Gabby, Weimann, Benteke. Very attacking....

    Brad Guzan

The thing is, the number of shots on goal has been dramatically reduced this year. Often, the goals Guzan gives up are 1v1's where the advantage goes to the attacker. I still think that Guzan gives up a soft one especially if it's low, but he makes up for it by being dominating in the air (I think hes top in the league at claims) and making routine saves and covering up the ball. When's the last time Guzan spilled it?

I did enjoy the irony there. But sadly transparency isn't a strong part of Asian culture. All about the face.

The US is certainly doing its very best to become an omniscient beast, and I imagine you like others are staggered by the mindbendingly vast amounts of information they are relentlessly gathering in, far more than can ever be analysed, requiring the creation of enormous new storage facilities to keep it in. In that context, the idea that despite their great and continually increasing capability, their insatiable appetite for ever more information, and their designation of the entire world as an area over which they have legitimate interest in data collection, they have no way of spotting a plane flying around for several hours and failing to identify itself seems a little naive. And when I hear that no-one was able to spot this aircraft for all that time but it's now been tracked using a previously undiscovered technique by a firm 28% owned by Harbinger, a CIA-linked firm with a long history of things going way back to the Bay of Pigs, I think that's an interesting notion. Because we do know, don't we, that firms active in these fields co-operate closely with the security services. Doesn't make it necessarily false information; does mean you have to be more than a little trusting to accept it purely at face value, if other parts of the story seem unlikely. I mean, I see I'm not going to change your mind on it. But technically and scientifically speaking, there is such a remote chance the US knew where plane was. If you truly believe they did, then I won't try to argue you out of that. But again, I think you're imagining the fictional find-a-person-in-5-seconds US instead of the real thing.

You give the US far too much credit. It is not an omniscient beast. At best, it is a corrupt entity that regularly overrides domestic and international laws to keep power. But it is not some all seeing eye that monitors everything in the world. There are no land radars in the southern Indian Ocean. If there are submarines, they would only register the impact of the plane crash IF they were within a good vicinity of the crash site. Listening posts underwater have limited range and encounter tons of data considering the volatility of the southern Indian Ocean. Just because you can't disprove a theory doesn't give it validation. Or is all the satellite data wrong and Inmarsat is in on the cover up as well?

Just in case anyone is wondering the technical breakdown of how they tracked it INFORMATION PROVIDED TO MH370 INVESTIGATION BY UK AIR ACCIDENTS INVESTIGATION BRANCH (AAIB) 25/03/14 On 13 March we received information from UK satellite company Inmarsat indicating that routine automatic communications between one of its satellites and the aircraft could be used to determine several possible flight paths. Inmarsat UK has continued to refine this analysis and yesterday the AAIB presented its most recent findings, which indicate that the aircraft flew along the southern corridor. As you have heard, an aircraft is able to communicate with ground stations via satellite. If the ground station has not heard from an aircraft for an hour it will transmit a 'log on / log off' message, sometimes referred to as a ‘ping’, using the aircraft’s unique identifier. If the aircraft receives its unique identifier it returns a short message indicating that it is still logged on. This process has been described as a “handshake” and takes place automatically. From the ground station log it was established that after ACARS stopped sending messages, 6 complete handshakes took place. The position of the satellite is known, and the time that it takes the signal to be sent and received, via the satellite, to the ground station can be used to establish the range of the aircraft from the satellite. This information was used to generate arcs of possible positions from which the Northern and Southern corridors were established. Refined analysis from Inmarsat In recent days Inmarsat developed a second innovative technique which considers the velocity of the aircraft relative to the satellite. Depending on this relative movement, the frequency received and transmitted will differ from its normal value, in much the same way that the sound of a passing car changes as it approaches and passes by. This is called the Doppler effect. The Inmarsat technique analyses the difference between the frequency that the ground station expects to receive and that actually measured. This difference is the result of the Doppler effect and is known as the Burst Frequency Offset. The Burst Frequency Offset changes depending on the location of the aircraft on an arc of possible positions, its direction of travel, and its speed. In order to establish confidence in its theory, Inmarsat checked its predictions using information obtained from six other B777 aircraft flying on the same day in various directions. There was good agreement. While on the ground at Kuala Lumpur airport, and during the early stage of the flight, MH370 transmitted several messages. At this stage the location of the aircraft and the satellite were known, so it was possible to calculate system characteristics for the aircraft, satellite, and ground station. During the flight the ground station logged the transmitted and received pulse frequencies at each handshake. Knowing the system characteristics and position of the satellite it was possible, considering aircraft performance, to determine where on each arc the calculated burst frequency offset fit best. The analysis showed poor correlation with the Northern corridor, but good correlation with the Southern corridor, and depending on the ground speed of the aircraft it was then possible to estimate positions at 0011 UTC, at which the last complete handshake took place. I must emphasise that this is not the final position of the aircraft. There is evidence of a partial handshake between the aircraft and ground station at 0019 UTC. At this time this transmission is not understood and is subject to further ongoing work. No response was received from the aircraft at 0115 UTC, when the ground earth station sent the next log on / log off message. This indicates that the aircraft was no longer logged on to the network. Therefore, some time between 0011 UTC and 0115 UTC the aircraft was no longer able to communicate with the ground station. This is consistent with the maximum endurance of the aircraft. This analysis by Inmarsat forms the basis for further study to attempt to determine the final position of the aircraft. Accordingly, the Malaysian investigation has set up an international working group, comprising agencies with expertise in satellite communications and aircraft performance, to take this work forward. In Annex I (attached) there are three diagrams, showing: Doppler correction contributions Image This diagram shows the Doppler contributions to the burst frequency offset. MH370 measured data against predicted tracks Image The blue line is the burst frequency offset measured at the ground station for MH370. The green line is the predicted burst frequency offset for the southern route, which over the last 6 handshakes show close correlation with the measured values for MH370. The red line is the predicted burst frequency offset for the northern route, which over the last 6 handshakes does not correlate with the measured values for MH370. Example southern tracks Image This shows the southern tracks for a ground speed of 400 and 450 knots ground speed. It should be noted that further work is required to determine the aircraft speed and final position. Source: Malaysian Official Page

The programming direction has been thrown in question as no one has actually confirmed that. The timing of when the transponders were turned off and when the change of direction occurred has not been confirmed. Just the last communication. In part, incompetence by the Malaysian government in confirming and debunking information has been a reason for all the speculation. As for it turning West, there are a lot of different placed out West. Don't you think it's a bit of stretch to say it went to DG just because it turned west? And do you not believe any of the satellite information? Neither of the tracks take it anywhere close to DG.

    Missing planes

There are no accounts thay say it turned towards DG. It turned west and either took a Northern or southern route. There are no credible sources that say it turned towards DG. If you could find one, I'd be glad to read it but nowhere have I read that it changed direction specifically to DG. And sadly, the US does not have an all seeing eye of the world. It would be nice to think they did but in reality, they have no radars in that area. Active radars are limited in distance. Satellites that are not pointed towards a specific area are close to useless. Yes, there exists a subset of possibilities that the US has kidnapped a plane and killed everyone to whatever nefarious purposes. Just as there exists the possibility that Con is right and Barry Bannan has been subjected to discriminatory tactics by Lambert and Pulis and no one has seen his true talent as a champions league caliber player. What is far more likely is that a malfunction took away their ability to communicate and they either diverted in lieu of a fire or deptessurzed or they diverted once they realized they couldn't communicate. The plane does a Helios and autopilots to death with everyone already dead on board.

It did not fly towards DG. There are no confirmed eye witnesses of anything. It turned west and crossed over land and then no one knows where it went except for estimates by the satellite company. And like I said, the most likely explanation is a series of malfunctions. No one could believe that the copilot in air France 447 pitched up into a stall the whole time. No one could believe that they missed an open seal three times in flight pre check for the Hello flight. It happens. The whole plane might have already been dead as it was cruising towards the Indian Ocean.
  12. Yeah. This. Great if you want him in the box when you're pinned back heading away crosses. But that's about it.
  13. Still not good enough (nor do I think he ever will be) in the mental part of the game. Very much a James Collins type of defender.
  14. Same lineup. Let's see if we can break a team down and avoid getting hit on the counter

I think it's just the mystery of it. We know why things in Syria are happening. We know why all these other things are happening. But we have no idea why or where 370 is.

    Missing planes

I genuinely think they have no idea and have acted incompetent beyond measure. As someone from Southeast Asia, Malaysia should have handed it over to the US, UK, and France from day one but they were desperate to save face. And yes, while all possibilities are on the table, Diego Garcia is so low on that list

Are there people seriously considering if it's in Diego Garcia?
  18. There's not really a whole lot anyone can do unless they want to play the MAD game all over again
  19. If he does, then we'll see if NATO really means anything.
  20. Sad thing is that Russia will probably move for all of Ukraine and we still won't do anything.
  21. Yeah it was cardiff away. He was okay... Certainly not as good as his sub appearances however
  22. Yeah that's what I meant. Make the possession we have against weaker teams count and break them down. If we're able to do that with a bit more consistency and maintain a decent record against higher opponents we should be top half.
  23. As I read the inane possession conversation in the Lambert thread, something people should remember is that the teams that have done the best against the top 4 are those who counter well. Tottenham do so poorly because they try to outdo the possession game against clubs that are far better at it than they are. They are tactically inflexible. Look at the teams that have done the worst again the top 4. Their counter attacks are nonexistent. Our goal shouldn't be to have more possession against those top 4 teams. We obviously have a good formula for that. It should be to improve our possession against weaker teams.
  24. Probably should just let Jack decide where he wants to play...
  25. Quite impressive. That's step for step there with a pretty rapid player
