  1. I am 100% sure if we had started with Guilbert, Targett, Luiz and Jota we would have lost my a much bigger scoreline yesterday. There are games to throw a load of new players into and yesterday was not one of them.
  2. Not quite sure what game some of you were watching. Hourihane was brilliant first half, broke up the play well and harassed their midfield. Second half he tired as did the rest of the team. We effectively chased shadows for 45 minutes. The 'he's not a DM' debate is boring now. He's not a DM, but until Luiz and Nakamba have been integrated into the squad he will play there. Hourihane is one of our most important players whether that's starting at DM, pushing McGinn and Grealish for a starting CM spot or coming off the bench late on; he will be massive for us this season with his goals and assists. Don't know why we always have to have a scapegoat.
  3. He reminds me of Bosnich with the saves he makes. Absolutely superb all afternoon yesterday.
  4. Got back late so didn't get a chance to get on here. Thought we were really good first half, it was always going to be a game that we wouldn't see a lot of possession but we defended bravely and created openings. Second half was a different story and Tottenhams endless possession seemed to tire us out, we couldn't rest on the ball and we inevitably broke down. Mings, Engels and Heaton were all superb. Mings did what he did all of last season, we don't need to worry about the step up with him. Engels looks like a rolls royce defender, classy on the ball and will improve with game time. Heaton will win us points on his own this season, some of the saves reminded me of Bozzie. Hourihane and Taylor deserve some credit. Hourihane worked hard all game, he noticeably chased and harassed the midfielders, unfortunately he tired and we missed his energy second half. Taylor carried his form on from last season, I like the fact he hasn't been bombed straight out. Grealish needs to learn from his mistake, I understand what he was trying to do in holding the ball, slowing the game down and trying to get a foothold in the game. Unfortunately we didn't adapt well enough second half and the long ball football we don't often play didn't work. Wesley had a tough afternoon, he will improve though. Effectively got chucked in at the deep end and was expected to hold the ball up for 90 minutes. Not worried at all, away against any of the top 6 is likely to end in defeat. These aren't the games that will define our season which starts next week at Bournemouth. Keep the Faith!
  5. First time I've ever wanted a Liverpool win. Until we pull ourselves safe and clear I'll be behind all of the top 6 in these games.
  6. Second half of the season Hogan and RHM were out on loan. Knibbs wouldn't have been good enough which is why he is now with Cambridge. We are in the same position as last season in terms of number of strikers. I imagine Smith would have preferred a 4th striker, but if the option to buy our target wasn't there then we end our hunt. It's better than a last minute panic buy. I'm sure in January we will sign a winger and a striker.
  7. But you could have said the same last season where we only had Abraham, Kodjia and Davis. It didn't happen.
  8. Imagine if he had gone into his press conference ahead of our first PL game and he had said 'No I'm not happy with the squad we should have bought some better players for the wings and up front' We might as well have not bothered turning up on Saturday.
  9. The idea of Wesley and Davis is that they hold the play up and bring the attacking midfielders into play to take the goal-scoring burden. We have Grealish, McGinn, El Ghazi, Trezeguet & Jota to all aid the striker.
  10. I wouldn't believe this myself, Villa Report have shown themselves to be nothing but a rumour mill during this transfer window.
  11. All done, I hope we don't regret this.
  12. This is shaping up to be a hugely disappointing day. Really think we will struggle this season without another RW and ST. All I can think is that we have been priced out of both and are now going to wait it out until January.
  13. Judging from Wikipedia we may all have missed something...
  14. Remember last transfer deadline day where we were all getting excited about Leroy Fer and then we signed Tom Carroll instead at the last minute. I miss those days.
  15. And that right there is the exact reason we shouldn't be wasting our money building a new stadium. Attendances rise and fall with the form of the team. There are around 30k fans that will be there week in week out, and that is what the club need to cater to with an extra 10k more to capture the match day sales. You look at teams like Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle & Arsenal, they sell out almost every single week which is why their capacities eclipse ours.
  16. It's very quiet right now, even more so with the deadline being tomorrow at 5pm. I would imagine tomorrow is going to a pretty hectic day, although I was hoping it would just be players out of the door. I guess a lot of signings now are reliant on a chain of events, and fees could potentially drop the later the deals are left.
  17. Haha I thought the same but they dissected our transfer business quite well and agreed we aren't doing a Fulham.
  18. Jota, El Ghazi and Trezeguet all going off on an all inclusive?
  19. Just about to give this a listen, not one of my normal go-to podcasts.
  20. If you mean some absolutely ridiculous comments then I agree wholeheartedly
  21. Can someone change the title of this thread to 'The Francesco Totti Appreciation Thread 2019'
