  1. Well hopefully for you your scouts were there. You don't want to end up paying a ridiculous fee for a very average player from another club in a couple of years time, that you could have bought from us for half the price. Hopefully enough of your coaches were there. You don't want to let another very good player go for half the price you could have got. His starts:goals ratio was very good at Spurs, better than any of the strikers he had to compete with actually. His starts to goals ratio doesn't tell you much as it includes goals when coming off the bench. Minutes per goal is the best way to judge things and when they were all at Spurs together (which was only for a short time) both Defoe and Keane had better records than him. So often players (i'm not just talking about Bent, but in general) get judged on cumulative data and this really distorts things. You can only score when on the pitch so it's unfair to make comparisons by just looking at the amount of goals a player has scored, which is so often done. We are apparently trying to sign Suarez at the moment and our fans are excited by this as yours were over Bent. But I can tell by reading most of the comments on Spurs boards that hardly anyone has watched him, other than casually during the WC. I keep reading how fast, strong and clinical he is! I've seen a fair bit of Suarez and he's not fast, goes over easily and often has about 5 chances before he scores. Yet his stats say he's got an incredible record and he looks a bit like Tevez, so our fans seem to have decided he has Teves attributes and the clinical finishing of RVN (as they scored similar amounts in Holland). I genuinely think you're in for shock concerning Bent and we might well be if we sign Suarez. His starts to goals ratio doesn't tell you much, yet mins per goal does? Yet players who get judged on culmative data distort things? joey55 you are an idiot. The same culmative data refers to both sides of the argument from differing angles, does it not?
  2. Did somebody earlier say Messi is becoming overratted? Oh dear.
  3. I'm gonna add every one on this list, I have no folllowers as I am a boring word removed. @AVFC_Beefy Well I have just learnt 2 things. 1 is that not many people on the list above uses Twitter often and 2, there are lots of paranoid Villa fans with protected tweets.

  5. @10_CJ is a funny follow. Some guy pretending to be Cameron Jerome, makes me laugh anyway.
  6. I'm a smoker and do not mind having to go outdoors to have a cig. Since the ban I have found that I cannot stand in a room where people smoke anymore as it makes me feel physically sick (my local has the odd lock-in and the ashtrays come out). Strange really as before the ban I could spend a night in the pub and smoke away for hours and not think of it. I actully feel a bit queasy now thinking aboout indoor cigarette smoke.
  7. With you on that.. Hughton got the club out of an embarassing decline and a crisis (2 of their players had a punch up on the pitch!) He's not only got them up, he's got them playing quite well, sitting in midtable. They beat arch rivals Sunderland 5-1 and beat Villa, the club who finally sent them down, 6-0. What more could the club actually expect?.. If they had fired him for a really experienced manager, then it might have seemed a shrewd move. Harsh on Hughton but giving the new manager a month with the team and a busy period of games to decide what he needs in January (as was said by someone earlier in this thread)... but to replace him with Curbishly?.. It's a sidewards move, at best. I'd like to see how Curbishly is going to handle Joey Barton and Andy Carroll. That was probably Hughton's greatest achievement, and one which I can't see Curbishly managing to do at all. Time will tell for Newcastle, but this seems like a really dodgy decision to me. Or even Pardew
  8. I can't belive I am still annoyed with this. I usually calm down after a bit but this has really got to me. I may even resort to posting an angry smiley.
  9. I am loathed to write this but I've nothing at work to do today so I may as well try to kill a bit of time. General, I have been a supporter of Villa for as long as I can remember and would like to think that whatever the situation, could always offer the benefit of doubt to whomever I personally feel may be at fault at the club, as circumstance would usually dictate actions. I could forgive Doug for not over-spending, as it was understandable that he would not want to financially ruin the club. I could forgive O'Leary's comments on fans being fickle as he probably has a point. Our best players heads are turned by mercanairies and we are 'forced' to sell. OK no big deal, the money will be reinvested into the squad, players come and go all of the time. MO'N left for whatever reason, so what? The board will bring in the right man for the job. Houllier has a run of really bad luck with injuries, a depleated squad and an inability to bring in his own players unitl January at the earliest. That's the way it is, give the new Manager time to put his own mark on the club, I say. I have been and will no doubt continue to be, an apologist for Villa for my entire life. I accept that I have no control whatsoever on the day to day goings on at Aston Villa FC, so accept that whatever happens happens and the sun rises and the sun sets blah blah blah. What I cannot accept is having the mickey taken out of me and my fellow Villa fans. I understand GH has a somewhat affectionate relationship with LFC but to have our noses rubbed in it, in the manner it was last night is both disrespectful, insulting and I am not alone in saying that I am sick of it. Like I said above, I can take losing a few matches, being in a transitional period is always difficult but with the actions of our Manager, he is making it impossible for himself. Please let us know whether any action will either be considered or taken to rectify this blatant disregard for OUR clubs reputation and standing in the Premier League. The lights on our 'Bright Future' are dimming.
  10. **** off Beckham you useless prick. I'm off to make an effigy.
  11. Definate Legendary status if we win or lose the 2018 bid. The things he has done, not just for football, but for sport generally in this country is second to none.
  12. "Chuck. Chuck. It's Marvin........, your cousin, Marvin Berry. You know that new sound you're looking for? Well, listen to this.........
  13. I'd (politely) ask him to sit down. But he won't.
  14. I'd be surprised. He has three years remaining on his contract at £100,000 per week and is one of the first choices in midfield for the England manager. Why would he leave? Well the fat bastard is getting on a bit and he'll probably be deemed surplus to requirements once Man City get a better defensive midfielder next summer in their annual £100m shopping spree. So what if he is? No other club will match his wages. He's played in the World Cup, earned millions and will have a few Champions League games next season while having a nice easy early retirement. It's not like they can force him to leave. And why would he? Three years being paid stupid money for not much work before a casual couple of final years to finish off at West Brom or Wolves. Looks like you've got it all planned out for him. Are you his agent?
  15. I went a couple of years ago on a stag weekend for 4 days, had to go to the Guinness factory/museum for half a day just to get away from the pubs. That was worth the trip. Temple Bar was a great day as well though, 4 of us, 5 rounds each and a very light wallet and a heavy head the following morning.
