  1. have a feeling this will be a great game and a high scoring draw 3-3 or something. Makes no sense as Newcastle arent conceding but a strong gut feel so we'll probably win 1 - 0
  2. Poch is known for bringing through academy players right? That is useful. Im not sure whether Emery has that reputation? What were Poch's signings at Saints and Spurs like?
  3. Since the start of the year it feels more like a total eclipse
  4. Agree... but there's a case to be made for the squad actually having a fair amount of the latter (buendia, coutinho, Bailey, kamara digne, cash) but not much of the former (only Mings really)
  5. I thought that was the translation of "Gerrard" ?
  6. I think the positive impacts of the mentality and aggression he brings shouldn't be underestimated in our current plight. An astute signing that's actually appropriate to our current context
  7. Gallagher is similar to McGinn but with a better attitude and a much better work rate. I'd be happy if we were to replace the latter with the former. Him + Dedoncker would do wonders for our general mentality which is so poor currently.
  8. I like the Dendoncker signing. You don't get capped for Belgium these days without being a decent player. He has attributes we're sorely lacking. 4231 with Him and Kamara sitting is much more solid than what we currently have. I'd have Luiz and Kamara sitting against weaker sides. Drop Mcginn and Ramsey to the bench (he wont) Watkins with Coutinho, Buendia and Bailey behind. Or even Ings up front and revert Watkins to an inside forward.
  9. Ah at least villa shatter my dreams quickly rather than letting them linger
  10. I'm not averse to Dendonker. Would add a bit of bite and physicality we desperately need. Get him, Diallo on loan, Moura on loan, sign Gallagher Hopefully keep Luiz and... Replace Gerrard with Poch tomorrow Ideal 24 hours
  11. Serious thought this triggers.... I wonder if he'd do a job as DoF ? More aligned to his skillset than manager/coach
  12. If we can get Poch I'd move immediately.... Otherwise we might as well see how the next 3 games pan out given they are all 'free hits' really as noone expects us to win.. then we can pull the ripcord if we get less than 3 points and the options are Potter, Rodgers or I'd even take Dyche (at least he has a plan) Reason I say this as Gerrard is dreadful on matchday....he does seem handy with attracting signings so might as well use his pull to assemble the best possible squad for the next manager. (Would Potter be able to attract such a high calibre of player immediately?)
  13. Trying to clutch at straws...but maybe the terrible start to the season may make us realise the first 11 isnt strong enough and force us to make a few more signings
  14. Bailey can play on the left, right? In fact I think he's played there more times over his career? Bailey Buendia/Coutinho Sarr Has tonnes of pace and creativity. I like it. May be we'd move back to a 433 though and drop Buendia or Coutinho into the middle as Kamara + Mcginn (as unfortunately I expect it would be) would get overrun
  15. Im not usually one to over-react but if we dont beat Everton with a vastly improved, dynamic performance then I think we need to be moving on without Gerrard. Its not necessarily the result vs bournemouth that alarms me...its how we lost. We are seeing the exact same problems we saw at the end of last season (principally carrying no attacking threat), Gerrard said he needed a pre season to fix them repeatedly so either a) he doesnt see the key problems we have or b) he can't fix them - both of which are concerning. Now, credit where credits due, I genuinely think he's built an unbelivable squad. I just dont think he's able to get the best out of that squad by setting us up wrong/ coaching us ineffectively. He talks a good game...but I dont see that being transferred onto the pitch where it matters. That said, we should only twist if a manager is available who can actively improve us e.g. Poch. I think ultimately Gerard could scrap enough points to finish 12-14 again... So a stable premier league outfit, no point risking that for an average manager. As I said though - this really isnt me overreacting to a result... its the nature of the perfomance itself that really disappointed and alarmed me.
  16. Kesler-Hayden has looked excellent since he came on IMO Archer has looked a threat (and now scored) Buendia transforms our attacking play - needs to start every game
  17. Call me an optimist but i'm fairly positive about the summer. Whilst recent results haven't been great I do think we have a nucleus of a good team for the first time since we got promoted. This means the summer is a bit more evolution vs. revolution. Adding a top quality DM, CB and Striker really transforms this team IMO and elevates us to the next level. I think we play really good stuff....apart from in both boxes currently! Make Coutinho & Olsen perm, sign Bissouma, Bring in Gomes, Striker - TBC needs to be a lethal finisher. We can also sell players that aren't of top half standard, good players for sure, but not of the standard of where we want to get to. Luiz - 30m, Watkins - 25-30m, Targett - 10-15m, Konsa - 20m, Traore - 15m, Davis - £8m etc. I'd keep Young and Ings if only to mentor the youth players + add experience. FWIW I'd sell McGinn if we got a 40m+ offer and brought in Phillips. Bailey and Buendia fantastic rotation options, i'd bring some youngsters through for the bench beyond this: Archer, Chuk (if he's signed a new contract), KKH. Iroegbunam to go on loan We have a great youth system and a decent team. I dont think we're far away from finishing top 8 next season if we're smart.
  18. 8-10th for me, which i'd be v happy with. I'm looking at this based on who I think we can finish ahead of. (promoted 3 + palace, newcastle, southampton, burnley, leeds, wolves, brighton). 8th vs 10th depends on whether we can finish above 2 out of arsenal tottenham west ham and everton (which would be a great achievement). There will probably be a surprise team in the mix from the first group i've listed come the end of the season so 9th would represent solid progress and a good season.
  19. I reckon the best team tomorrow is 433 as follows: (Buendia on the bench as harder to integrate an outfield player who hasnt been training with the team) Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Young (to combat Everton's effective wingers over Targett) McGinn, Luiz, Ramsey Traore, Watkins, Bailey Ings and Buendia is game-changing subs (nice to have those now!) I liked 532 but wouldnt play this at home
  20. Just playing devil's advocate - could this be for the arrival of Leon Bailey?
  21. Can't stand city. They've gradually ruined football over the past 10 years and this would be the final nail in the coffin. Don't do it Jack. Stay and be part of something special not something soulless. Be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem.
  22. Here's something i've been mulling over. I don't think we'll be bringing in a huge number of players this summer given the performance of our youngesters this season some of them can pad the squad out. I'd target maybe 3 quality signings (c£40m each). Inside Forward, AM, DM. all first 11 Ready. Given this if you were to pick one player who you think is a) obtainable and b) would instantly take us to the next level...who would it be? I'd say Pedro Neto for what its worth.
  23. Who do we reckon can make the step up to the first team next season then? Chuk is a given as he's already there. I wonder if we'll send Jacob Ramsey on loan and bring Aaron onto our bench - just seems to have more about him. My next thought would be Kesler as understudy to Cash Does Revan provide enough that we dont need to sign another LB to cover Targett this summer? I'd veer towards a loan for Barry - Belgium/Portugal maybe..
