i think you mean we have a couple of very good players, some good players, some players not capable of playing Emery ball (regardless of their other strengths), and quite a few inconsistent and/or overrated players.
  2. will almost certainly go to Chelsea on a free, then they can spend 50 bazillion squillion on other players too.
  3. the problem with Emi leaving in the summer, isnt so much that im bothered if he does or doesnt go, but.... Who in the current climate can pay 50m+ for a goalkeeper??? tbh its pretty much down to PSG and clubs from the premier league, most of all the other foreign clubs/leagues have very little money it seems. i honestly cant imagine who would/could sign him, the "bigger" teams all have decent GKs, @Made In Aston mentioned Bayern, but do we really think Bayern would pay 50m for a keeper this summer!?, i highly doubt it.
  4. cant see anything official that he is sacked (other than one report in an online rag). edit: just appeared. was it something like 9 weeks in charge?
  5. will be interesting to see what we do spend, if some of the alleged players do go, or others also, the income could be something like: Martinez - 50m? Cash - 25m? Chambers - ? Digne - 10m? Steer- free Will Bailey, Traore, Mcginn, Coutinho stay? I think its reasonable to assume, that if Martinez does go, as well as others, we could generate 100m+ from sales, so we could really push the boat out if thats the case (ie: net spend 200m, so 300m spent, 100m income, for example). Going to be a very interesting summer (i hope).
  6. what peeves me is... 1) i have no idea why he stands on the ball for ages, just keep it moving, move their forward players around, recycle the ball quickly, keeper > CB > full back > keeper > CB > full back etc etc etc, move it around and pull the press, him just standing there like a melon waiting for a player to get 2 feet from him is just...i dunno, it slows it all down, allows opposition players to set themselves, and puts our players on their heels through lack of action, its really annoying to watch. 2) time wasting......they literally add the time on at the end now, time wasting saves you no time any more, and he gets yellows for it, that will get him banned eventually for X yellows, its pointless when they add time on for time wasting anyways. I can see Emery cashing in on him this summer. the above doesnt think i believe emi is a bad player, he isnt, but i also wonder if he fits Emery's profile of player.

The more i listen to this, the more i like him. He is gonna tear this team up i think.
  8. any reason he hasnt been on the bench recently?, injured?
  9. wow he really goes to town on the players, style, tactics, expectations etc. He also makes perfect sense.

i tend to think this is "not capable of giving it" in a few cases. Will need a bit of a team rebuild to be able to play Emery's desired style tbh.

brilliant interview tbh. Talks about how we arent playing how he is asking, the interviewer asks if the second goal is how he wants villa to play, the he says something like..... " (pulls a face as if to say....hell no) its a goal, a goal in transition, but we arent controlling the ball, we cant play 90mins in transition, they could have scored more from poor defending, poor ball control, poor turnovers, we score a goal and then act as if we wait for the game to end, trying to play transition, i dont want to build a team that only plays in transition, we can work in transition sometimes, but we need to control the ball.....etc etc etc". Honestly, a lot of these players are doing the same as what they have done before, up their performances a bit, get the monkey off their back, then revery back to not playing the style they are asked, or reverting to fast pace running around like headless chickens and not implementing a game plan, we have seen it over and over, i can see a fair few of this squads players being ejected quickly this summer. I get the impression Emery is a manager who just wont stand for it, its his way or the highway, and as he has the complete backing of the owners, and from what i have seen, also the fans, the players are the ones who will suffer, not Emery, at least for now.

i back Emery 100%, if we cant improve under him we may as well pack our bags. Emery needs to be backed to the hilt in the summer, its critical we get 4-6 new players in, need to offload quite a few also.

    Ezri Konsa

not sure i would sell him, he could be a decent english squad player (for english player limit), which would allow us more foreigners for the first 11 and wider squad. I agree he shouldn't be a starter at all, but i wouldnt get rid, he could be ok-ish backup. tbh, in my head, i see Mings and Konsa as backup/competition to two new CD's (or backup to Carlos and a new CD - depending on how Carlos returns to fitness and performs etc).
  14. Fully supportive of Emery and we are close but so far from being what he wants. There are some positives on the team, but..... There are no excuses for the players imo, when a team continues again and again to do the same thing over and over, the same poor game management, the same weak mentality, the same mistakes. Doing it once or twice is one thing, but we do it again and again, it's really painful to know what's coming before it happens.
  15. how on earth do we allow ourselves to switch off at corners time and again. no excuses for that.
  16. our defence needs surgery in the summer. Our defensive tactics around corners also needs surgery, or maybe some of the players need brain surgery for continuing to do the same things again and again.
  17. overloaded on a short corner and poor defending of a short corner. seems we like to do that.
  18. Bailey too soft. Would go Ramsey and Duran personally.
  19. Will be interesting to see Duran against their back line.

i love his comments in the presser when asked about has he decided which players will or wont be part of his plans beyond this summer. He basically said something like, "me, the players, every match we are taking exams, we analyse each performance and try to help the players, be demanding of them". Great way of putting it, some will pass the exams, some wont!.
  21. its a no brainer extending Mings' contract. He is probably, almost certainly, currently our best central defender (we havent seen anything of Carlos to compare, so im comparing to Konsa/Chambers etc). In the short to maybe medium term Mings will be really important for us, and even if in the medium to long term he isnt a guaranteed starter if Emery brings a new defender in, he is still an excellent player to compete for the starting slot and would add depth to the squad. tbh i think we need one central defender in the summer, then have Mings, Carlos, Konsa and a new guy competing for the 2 central defender spots. Get rid of Chambers tbh.
  22. so in theory V Sports could invest heavily in their youth setup (like we have done at Villa), rise the B team through the leagues while developing the youth players and setup, some players get released over time, some are sold on, some go through to Vitoria, and some maybe we take an option on. Interesting times ahead. I would assume as part of the deal for Sawaris to buy the shares, involves possible stadium improvements, training ground and facility upgrades, but also good/heavy investment in the youth setup etc. Will be interesting to see how it develops.
  23. Because house prices continued to rise and rise, where as salaries stagnated, many actually having year on year pay cuts due to pay rises (if any), being lower than inflation. For example, due to poor, or no pay rises over the last 10 years, i have probably had a actual pay cut of 10-15% when pay rise vs inflation is taken in to account (ie: a 1% pay rise, when inflation is 3.5%, is a real terms 2.5% paycut - generally speaking, i guess many are in this boat). Average house price in England is 2010 was something like 175k, in 2019 the avg house price in England was 244k, so whats that, a 68% increase in 9 years?, where as i would guess wages for the average person have either stagnated in that time, or some may have even had a real terms drop of between 1% and 25%+? So in the scenario where Person A gets a 2% pay rise for 9 years straight, but inflation is 3.5% for each of those years, broadly speaking they had a real time pay cut of 13.5% over those 9 years, but in that time house prices went up 68%. Add this together and the gap between real salary and house prices just keeps getting wider and wider, so the old 3 x salary thing is completely impractical now (ie: take a person on 30k, not many houses out there for 90k).
