  1. Sad.......it used to be Alan Stubbs man ? ?
  2. Didn't mean each challenge is for the team...........he just hates to lose the ball and takes it personally. However if he plays as normal and Villa get good results then the general confidence will grow as a by product. He wouldn't be the same force if he starts to pull back from challenges for fear of getting a yellow card.
  3. McGinn has always been the same whether at St Mirren or Hibs.......when he lost the ball he does his best to get it back which unfortunately sometimes results in him being over zealous and getting on the wrong side of the ref and a yellow results. You will get used to this but that is just his way in giving 100% so just enjoy him when he is playing and if he helps confidence to spread through the entire Villa side hopefully they will cope without him for the odd game when he is suspended.............don't try and change him ?
  4. We certainly do miss him. ? ...........but good luck to him and his onward and upward career .............and another great result for the Villa today ?
  5. He certainly can shield the ball using his arse. ?
  6. We certainly haven't got anyone now and our midfield is struggling without McGinn , McGeouch ( went to Sunderland) and Allan (back to Celtic) from last year. More often than not players who come down to England don't seem to really make it , Stewart to Birmingham for example last year, and one exception at present is Robertson at Liverpool. Other players from abroad get a foothold up here before moving South eg: Sol Bamba, Van Dijk etc One attribute McGinn has ( amongst many) is his strength which you need if moving to the Championship or Premier league of which many young Scottish players lack and they are eased off the ball . If anyone else turns up at Hibs we will let the Villa scouts know. ?
  7. Its funny that before he came to us and was at Celtic, Bolton etc most Hibs fans had the same bad feelings towards him.
  8. Watched him again last night and it seemed his role has changed from when he first came to you and since the new management team came in. He did not seem to be flying all over midfield but staying mainly on the right and fairly well forward. He therefore did not get involved as much as I have seen before but what he did was neat and tidy with some telling passes and through balls. I also noticed he did not take any of the set pieces which he had been doing in previous games I watched. As I posted last time, this happened with us as they tended to be "floaty" with not enough pace on them so perhaps Smith has had the same thought. Anyway another solid performance, as it was from Grealish till he tired after 70+ minutes and most importantly 3points. Reply to this topic... 9. After 2 away losses this is an important game for the new management team otherwise pressure starts to build mainly from fans expectations. I watched the QPR game and thought Villa were unlucky not to score so hopefully they will have worked on the Villa defense in the last week and some luck will go for you in front of goal. Hopefully McGinn will be better this week and Grealish keeps up the intensity he showed last week. Good luck .?
  10. Good way to waste time......we were up against it in the last few minutes with only 10 men. Think the only reason he went down was to retrieve the coin ?
  11. No goal conceded......just one chalked off for offside. ?
  12. At least he stayed off the pitch this time......last time he went off towards the sevco fans pretending to be an aeroplane at the end of last season, lol. Coin , I think, hit him on the chest. but the play acting was just as bad as the Hearts keeper pretending he had been felled by a right hook from Tyson.....Mike or Fury. Both incidents have no place in modern day football and hopefully the Police will find the culprits.......however based on their involvement , or lack of it, in all the other "antics" going on last night both inside and outside the ground , I won't hold my breath. By the number of coins being thrown I expect the cleaners came away a good deal richer. Took me back to watching football in the 70's!......especially in the old Witton Lane.?
  13. First game I have seen him play since leaving. Thought he had an OK game with his usual robust style......that will get him into the refs book from time to time! Didn't influence the game as mush as Grealish who to me had a good game, and at times it seemed to pass him by. He kept up the intensity and fight for the team as expected right till the end. Interesting to see that you have him as a corner taker from the right...........we didn't do that in the end as too many were very "floaty" and it was hard for forwards to generate the necessary power onto the ball to put a decent effort on goal. He hit a couple of good set pieces into dangerous areas though. Villa unlucky not to take something from the game........hopefully Terry will sort the defense out sooner rather than later as there are some tough games coming up before the transfer window opens.
  14. First Villa game I have seen for a long time and having read many comments on here, thought they were going to be dreadful with backs to the wall stuff. However in general I thought in many areas they played well and were unlucky not to score and get at least a point from the game. Defense is poor but hopefully John Terry will have an influence in this area. He must have felt like topping himself when he saw the manner of the QPR goal! A simple ball over the top to split the defense with the centre halves static and nobody tracking the run.......hopefully Terry will organise this. Whether players had stopped for a moment when they saw the McGinn foul just before the ref played advantage but that's still no excuse. Full backs , I thought were poor especially on the left (Taylor?) who was fortunate not to give away a penalty. Hutton did his normal of getting forward but defensively not so hot. His and some of the other players crossing when in great positions was very poor, especially from the right. Grealish played well and was influential both towards the back and trying to get the team forward. McGinn, was his usual robust self but I felt he was a little off the pace at times. I see you have him taking all the corners from the right but rather like when he was with us many are too "floaty" and its hard for attackers to generate much power on them towards goal. Up here he got relieved of this task much of the time and when a guy called James Keatings was with us, he took them and the corners improved with much more pace and better height for forwards to attack. However I did see you top the goal scoring in the Championship from set pieces, which he takes a fair few, so cannot be all bad. ? For me Grealish was MoM.
  15. Played around a dozen games for Celtic up here I think and then was loaned out. Seems to be the story of his career having been loaned out at Man U. Seems to be the type of player we would be looking at but not the quality for Villa in the Championship. ?
  16. I know its easy to say but patience is needed at present. Unfortunately Villa fans have been put through the mangle in the last few years and the said patience has virtually gone..........understandably. They will have wanted Bruce out and then all of the sudden the team to be instantly playing better. Last night was always going to be a tough game with Norwich currently going well. Smith and Terry have come in with plenty of time this season to get to the play offs at least and they have to be given time to stamp their way onto the team and possibly freshen things up in the transfer window. What the fans need to see are small signs that the management team are changing things match by match and at least showing that they have an understanding of what is and has been going wrong........something from reading the thoughts on here, that Bruce did not have.
  17. Ah you have finally noticed how he shields the ball and more with his arse......you will get used to it as will the opposition. ?
  18. Regarding the stray passes, he was always prone to do this but invariably he was trying to get the team going and get forward and often refused the obvious safe pass that may have been on which some players nearly always take. ( At Hibs anyway !) As someone said if he has given the ball away he will give his all to try and get it back.
  19. Voted for SJM . I thought the Reach goal was in third place myself. McGinns goal was brilliant as he had to wait so long for it to drop and strike it on the volley plus keep it down which is technically very hard to do. It was even better from the North Stand view.......Witton Lane in my day. ? Do you think Bruce coached him how to do that. ?
  20. Good luck to Dean and I personally think it is a good choice............experience in the division and has done well at both Walsall and Brentford which in the case of the latter was with more limited resources than are available at Villa. Obviously there will be more expectation to get them out the division so time will tell how he reacts to that. I used to watch Dean when he played for Hereford United in the 90s and he always came over as the consummate professional. Terry is a little more left field but got to give him time as the fans do with Dean Smith. Good luck to them both and to Villa for the rest of the season. Obviously if he doesn't get on with McGinn we will take him back on loan in January ? .......seriously I hope that doesn't happen and John goes from strength to strength with Villa.
  21. Great memories.......had just returned to live back in Birmingham from Edinburgh and remember going to all the home games that season............also meant I could keep an eye on an old Easter Road favourite in Des Bremner.
  22. Played 93 times and scored 13 goals. ( thanks to Wiki lol )
  23. Mentioned today in the "Sun" lol. Not the man you need although his Celtic side was much better than Rodgers present one. He is a good manager ( at our level and League) but suffers from a degree of mental illness so don't know how he would cope with the pressures at Villa. He did have a go at Bolton a couple of years ago but financial constraints there cut that venture into the English Leagues short. His number 2 is of course Gary Parker who some of your slightly more mature fans will remember from the Villa sides of the 90s.
  24. He was our manager a few years back. ? ..............................hadn't a bloody clue, so was really surprised when he got appointed at Villa . Fantastic you have also got rid of him.
  25. Incidentally 2 of the worst have been Terry Butcher and Calderwood.......couldn't believe he ended up with you guys under Bruce ? Was glad to see he was shown the door and not given temporary charge.
