  1. Someone with good experience in the Championship or higher who has a genuine passion for the game and the Club he is in charge of. We have had a few left field appointments who have proved to be excellent, eg Mowbray, Stubbs but this is a different League / pressure and I don't think you can beat that experience.
  2. Blimey I thought Rodgers was a bad shout but the "Breadman" and his magic wand Warburton.......NO WAY.
  3. Really feel you need to avoid Rodgers. Comes across up here in Scotland as an arrogant p***k who has achieved nothing more than expected based on the huge gulf in finances between Celtic and the rest. (with Sevco struggling to regain their former strength which may be changing this season with Stevie G at the helm) At Liverpool they had a great squad and should have won the League but somehow didn't and then fell away. I have never been that convinced of him when the pressure is on. Trying to get Villa back to where they belong will bring great pressures so you need someone who has shown they are capable of enduring this. For the same reason I feel John Terry needs to be avoided as although he was a great player there is no Managerial history especially at such a high profile club. Lets hope for the right appointment soon who can coach the present squad to become a potent force in the Championship and achieve promotion. It was interesting to see how John McGinns performances have dipped after a few weeks under Bruce!
  4. Sunshine On Leith is an incredibly hard song to sing .......even for someone who can sing. It is only sung perhaps once or twice a year by the fans after either an important Cup victory or after beating Hearts etc (so some years it is never heard! ? ) and it has to have the record in the background to get the timings and phrasings correct........no chance JM could have pulled it off ?
  5. Interesting points about if attention is directed at him it will allow Grealish more room and time. This certainly happened at Hibs where teams obviously targeted McGinn but in doing so allowed our other midfielders to operate more freely. This worked well for us last year as we had then ( both left now ? ) 2 other lads who could exploit this extra time and space. Hopefully your midfield and especially Grealish can do the same. When you have 2 midfielders like McGinn and Grealish teams will struggle to mark them both out the game / kick them both up in the air .Fortunately McGinn showed he is not fragile and could take the hard man tactics without always being out injured.
  6. Mighty you think poz.......and mighty they are ?
  7. Aye mjm.......totally different from the modern squad game. When we turned up to see the Villa we could name the side before it was announced, barring injuries.
  8. So sad to hear this. Was the Villa manager through a large part of my Villa supporting days through the 70's and have fond memories of following him and his teams in that era. Some great days and memories...........................thanks for that Ron. Thoughts are with him and his family.
  9. Funnily enough I never thought his corner taking for Hibs was that good and last season preferred to see Scott Allan and this season Mallan take them. When I watched the highlights of the Villa game I was impressed with McGinns corners and don't know if that was due to better and stronger players in the penalty area making more of them as each one looked dangerous. As I have said before I will wait 5 or 6 games and see how he progresses and how opposition managers set their sides up to play him now they know more about him. We found up here he started to be kicked up in the air as soon as he was on the ball and he didn't get much protection from the referees. Some better sides would man mark him and take him out the game that way. I won't ask about Wigans first goal.............thought I was watching Scottish football again. ?
  10. Aye pozbaird.......it shouldn't be forgotten St Mirren first developed him ( and of course his brother is still there) before moving to Hibs who took him further. Now Villa can take him that next important step towards the real big time. Good luck today v the huns.
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEGezXTv--E To make McGinn feel at home you need to follow on from the above Hibs chant............. It would scan OK if you sang............................We've got McGinn Super John MvGinn I don't just think you understand He's Steve Bruces man Better then Zidane We've got Super John McGinn
  12. Glad he did well for you yesterday and from reading reports about him that is what you get most games. His greatest asset is that he is a trier for whichever shirt he wears and gives his all for it. He needed a bigger stage to develop and that is what Villa will provide. I think the statements are correct urging caution to see how he is doing after 6 or 7 games but hopefully he will continue to improve and do a good job for you. Well done on the 3 points again and a 100% start. Some were saying it was lucky but I always believe that you make your own luck and if you win promotion by 1 point at the end of the season you won't care how the points were won. Keep it up
  13. He is still developing so is an unknown quantity at your level. Mentally very strong and on his day can pass the ball superbly. It was always assumed especially by Smeltic that he would go there so no other Scottish Clubs came in ( apart from the huns nobody else could afford him) and although he had talks with Bournemouth he chose Villa.......wanted to join a big club?
  14. I must admit I have followed the love in between Hibs and Villa this week since SJM signed. It must seem slightly bizarre to many Villa fans at the outpouring of love towards a player who has now left Easter Road. Most of it is genuine affection for a model professional who always gave his all for the club. Some of it is genuine relief and delight that he didn't go to Celtic which everybody to do with the smellies thought he would do. I of course wish the player well and will follow his development with interest and see if he is able to take the next step up in his career. Mentally I have no doubts and it remains to see how he will cope with the strength and speed of the game in the Championship. You will certainly get used to him shielding the ball with his erse ? I myself spent all my teenager years singing my heart out at the back of the Holte ( as my dad had done before) and was brought up on players like Charlie Aitkin, Brian Little, Bruce Rioch and also ex Hibbys, Des Bremner and Alex Cropley . Many happy memories also of travelling to away games with the claret and blue fans and also trips to Wembley and of course Rotterdamin 82. Within a short time of going regularly to Villa Park we got a young lad from Dundee United called Andy Gray who didn't turn out to badly.......just hope SJM can make the same impact. Good luck with the season and hopefully you will get promotion and back to where such a big club belong. GGTTH
  15. Hi, another Hibby wishing Villa all the best for the new season and hopefully promotion to where they belong and will be watching the development of SJM with interest. My teenage years were spent one week at the back of the Holte and the next following the claret and blue wherever. Then I went to University in Edinburgh and had to choose between the 2 sides as to who to follow. I chose the green of Hibernian over the maroon of Hearts as it didn't seem right to support another with those colours and the rest is history. Now live in Edinburgh , a season ticket holder at Easter Road and they have given us the greatest day of my supporting career when winning the Scottish Cup in 2016 for the first time in 114 years..........or was it Rotterdam in 82???? GGTTH
