  1. Another great result.......well done. I think the last few games show how important Grealish is to the side in so many ways. This guy Mings you have brought in is also stabilising the defense so the play off push is back on big time I also think with Grealish back in, it is helping your other midfielders especially McGinn as the opposition target Jack to stop him playing allowing the others more space and time.
  2. Brilliant win over the Alliance.........well done. Turned out to be a great decision not to start McGinn.......by the time he came on he was chomping at the bit and added so much to change the course of the game. As for the ned who attacked Grealish ( what a player by the way , not just with skill but the positive influence on the whole side) I hope the authorities and the law come down on him hard and of course, banned from all football grounds, for the good that does................ I know "fans" who had this ban and still attend games! We had a similar incident last Friday where one of our so called "fans" had a bust up with Tavernier of sevco.........however that was at least face to face and Tavernier could see a punch coming but the attack on Grealish was total cowardice as he did it from behind and could easily have broken his jaw. As for the SHA fans who cheered him .......I will make no comment as words fail me Push for a play off place now...............................
  3. I think you will find there was NO surprise in my statement if you read what I said properly. No disbelief when McGinn joined my boyhood heroes Aston Villa. Good job the league is there to develop players such as......John McGinn No disbelief when Efe Ambrose, one of our best players this season wanted to leave to join Derby County etc etc etc It is a mickey mouse league and can be shite but that is down to one thing now......money. It is what it is but has given me some of the best days as a supporter even when compared to a certain night in Rotterdam watching the Villa winning the European Cup............................winning the Scottish Cup in 2016 was the best day ever bar none.
  4. Probably right Zatman but Rodgers may initially go after players he knows. McGinn is still learning aspects of his game and needs to stay at Villa for a year or so ........in my opinion..........and Villa are still a bigger Club than the foxes. Mind you he hasn't got the job yet!
  5. Hope you are right.......but will have to see what backing he gets from the Leicester board and how strong the Villa board are.
  6. Rodgers to Leicester........................................watch your backs on Mcginn as he rates him and tried to buy him for Celtic.
  7. No contest in his mind. Celtic a big fish in a small pond and the draw of the gravy train money ( for himself and to buy players) in the Premier League would be a huge draw. See how he does against the bigger spending teams of the Premier League but like someone before me, I hope he falls flat on his face. This will be his biggest test as our cat could manage Celtic such is the disparity in money available compared with the other sides up here bar sevco of course. If he does go to Leicester I'd watch out for him coming after McGinn as he tried to sign him for Celtic and obviously rates him.
  8. Same at all grounds I am afraid..........................same thread being talked about on Hibs.net as we speak where half our fans had left at 85 mins.............Its just the way it is I like it when like last week against Sheff United many would have left by the time you scored one let alone three. Well done to the fans who stayed and encouraged the side to get two more for a point.
  9. Think I agree with you about the hibees on their way to VP.....................will drag myself to Easter Road this pm but it is only about 2 miles away ...........and we have a new manager so extra interest to see how the players react. You may regret not going if you gub them.............but there again................................. Good luck anyway
  10. A number of Hibs fans have gone down to cheer Villa and McGinn on........heres hoping they bring you luck against the baggies. 'mon Villa
  11. Hoped that the heroics against Sheffield United would help you kick on. Didn't see the game so cannot really comment on last night but would seem the game is being lost in midfield. McGinn a little lost without playmaker Grealish in the side? Although Grealish won't be the total answer to Villas troubles I still feel when he is back the team will improve. McGinn did his best for us when Scott Allan played alongside him so feel he needs that type of midfielder so lets hope Grealish is back soon.........there was talk Grealish would be back for last Fridays game but obviously not so. Like us, you are going through a tough time so feel for you, but all one can do is keep believing in the Club and look forward to better times which will come at some point. Board members, managers and players come and go but AVFC and the fans will always be there so keep the faith.
  12. Aye, I can see that. Hopefully Grealish will be back soon to halve the load.
  13. Managed to watch the game last night and knowing you have this thread I spent the first 80 minutes wondering who would get MOM! The team were playing so poorly, the ref was poor ( I don't think in this day and age many refs would have allowed their second goal.......gone are the days of Nat Lofthouse et al bundling the ball and goalkeeper over the line to score and invariably in 50.50's they side with the goalkeeper) and there was no spark with the midfield certainly second to everything. McGinn would have been used to much of the play as for a long spell the main ball being played was a diagonal to Hutton......at Hibs it was always a diagonal ball to David Gray as the only out ball we seemed to have......predictable for the opposition. At that point I almost turned it off.....but am glad I didn't.....what an ending and shows how much confidence and belief is part of the game. Once one went in Sheff United started to sit deeper and once the second was scored you could see the Villa players begin to believe and United defenders became a little panicky culminating in the mis-kick that McGinn pounced on got to the line and put in the perfect cross for the third. You never know this may get the team going for a push towards the play offs. If they can do this against one of the top sides in the league then who knows? Sort of result that gets the dressing room and fans buzzing even though it was only one point. As for McGinn, thought he had a poor game till the last 10 when he got on the ball a bit more and then made the equaliser. Smith seems to have him playing quite far forward, certainly from when he first came to you ( and for us) and much of the game seemed to pass him by and wasn't involved in many midfield tussles and not much opportunity to use that famous arse of his! I noticed in one or two 50.50 balls he didn't go flying in like he used to which of course often got him a yellow.......perhaps the coaching team are sorting this side of his game but am not sure his best position is so far forward in the midfield. Many times he was waiting in the box for crosses and passes to come in where in the past he would be the one running with the ball into the box and to the line to cross and trying to make things happen for others. Up to 80 minutes I had Mings down as MOM and still believe he deserved it at the end especially as his goal started the comeback.....looks a good player. 'mon Villa , kick on from here.
  14. I think Clarke is right in that it wouldn't be so bad if they were consistant. He mentioned a simple example in the last 10 minutes in the St Johnstone v Celtic game............. Forrest ? scores and goes up and embraces the Celtic fans and gets a booking. Few moments later Weah scores , does the same and doesn't get a booking! From what I have seen the refs in the SPL are worse than in the English Championship but you obviously see more of them than me.
  15. Dallas is a joke of a ref........much like the rest of them up here. Agree that at least 2 shouldn't have been given with a third being debatable. Lot of murmurings from clubs and managers , especially, Clarke of Killie , that the SFA have got to crack down on the refs and get some consistency.
  16. Just seen, Villa are hoping to have Grealish back for the game with Sheff United..................lets hope so
  17. This is what I was saying last week and hoped he may have started to develop his game more, especially playing with "better" players .......having said that he did score some notable goals for us by doing just that ( couple against Sevco and Smeltic stand out ) so hopefully soon one or two of these runs and shots will end up in the opposition net.. What I have seen of him this season at Villa he seemed better when Grealish is playing and when with us he was better when Scott Allan and Dylan McGeouch were alongside him in midfield...........perhaps he is just trying to do it all and ends up doing too much? When is Grealish back?
  18. Hearts have not a big enough squad quality to keep a challenge going. They lost the spine of their side and some are only just getting back now so momentum could not be maintained. Killie will fall away and it will be left to the monied uglies, although Clarke has to be praised for getting Killie to where they are considering the lack of finance he has to work with. They may get better results at home due to the artificial surface they play on.......a little like Livingston. Hibs won't be challenging the uglies anytime soon .......the transfer window is about to close again and we haven't brought enough in with at least another 4 players needed.........however with all the uncertainty over Lennon and a new manager? it is hardly surprising players are not keen. Think our good spell after 2016 has now gone and we are heading back towards the doldrums again .....the Hibs way. I blame Villa for taking John McGinn off us lol
  19. Hopefully that won't happen. We won't be able to afford him but more importantly most don't want him anyway............his record as a manager is not mind blowing. Gary Parker arrived as part of the Neil Lennon package in 2016. Sevco will always find a way to continue and I agree they must be overspending to try and stop Smeltic.......but have been doing so for a long time........its just more in the open now.
  20. They certainly were and its only in the last few years have become part of the "beautiful game" A notorious Hibs v Barcelona game in the Fairs Cup in the early sixties where they tried to kick Hibs off the park, ended with the Barcelona players fighting first with the officials, knocking the ref to the ground and then with the Police when they came on to restore order. One of these was the European Footballer of the Year..................................cannot see Messi et al doing this in the modern game lol
  21. Aye, in the Holte that night and a great win. Just looked at the sides for that night and I think Villa had 7 English and 4 Scots ( including Hibby, Des Bremner), Barcelona had 10 Spanish and 1 German............................how the game has changed!!
  22. Exactly as he was at Hibs and was always a fans favourite because of his attitude and work rate and so became a bit of a green and white talisman for the side and fans. However I am beginning to get nagging doubts whether he will get to that next level as I would have hoped by now, playing for Villa in a better League and with better players he would be improving these other aspects of his game ( they are good but he could improve them to get to the next level) and so catch the eye of Premier League clubs. Chances to score yesterday which passed him by, which if he had taken would have averted the squeeky bum time in the last 10 when the tractor boys were striving for a leveller. Hoping he does kick on but if this takes a long time at least this benefits Villa as PL teams won't come sniffing and the fans retain their claret and blue talisman. Might have only been the bottom side yesterday but these are sometimes the hardest games as Ipswich are fighting for their Championship lives...........and the 3 points are the most important thing..........well done.
  23. Same sentiments for all fans up here regardless of which team you follow............except if you support one of the two uglies. Unfortunately with the money that these 2 clubs can generate it is very unlikely to happen in thge modern game Since Hibs are going to finish nowhere this season and need to build a total team ( sound familiar ), it doesn't hurt to dream and wish Aberdeen and Killie all the best...........that goal by Jones the other night must have really hurt sevco and Gerrard
