  1. Malcolm Allen anybody? Taylor had him from Watford went it first arrived in 87. Carlton Cole & Ryan Bertrand both started brightly but faded badly. Worth noting Cole’s excellent debut was against the worst team in the league that season. Scott Carson. Not rubbish but not good either. For the money we stumped up for him, would have wanted better. Gilles De Bilde, was less than impressive for the month we had him for. Joey Gudjonsson: even his debut goal was crap (the goalie fumbled his free kick into the net, was it Boro?) Alan McLoughlin played one game in the Zenith Data Systems Cup, generally looked ok when playing for Pompy or Ireland. Also, I thought Frank McAvennie was on trial instead of being on loan (is there a difference?). We signed Deano instead.
  2. As Jimmy Greaves used to say ‘it’s a funny old game’. Fairly comfortable first half, deserved the 2-0 lead. PNE were always going to come out second half and give it a go. It was the case of weathering the storm. We couldn’t. If Chester got a yellow instead, we’d see the game out 2-1, 3-1, 3-2 etc. Very poor with 10 men. Can only assume Abrahams wasn’t 100% fit, should be nailed on to sub Kodjia instead. Another query as to what the players do in training, certainly not anything to cope with being a man down. I can understand putting Bolaise on up front: big, strong & quick. We needed some presence up field (It was very strange to hear some of the crowd shouting for Hogan to come on instead). Don’t understand just lumping the ball forward and waiting for their next wave of attack to begin again. We just couldn’t get the ball on the floor and to go through the normal motions that we normally do: pass it along the back line, to the midfield and back again
  3. Something to consider, last season we played 2 up front against these and lost. Bannan running the show. So I guess we'll go back to 1 forward.
  4. Bebeto (94 WC winner) Try this one, slightly Villa related. I saw him score for us once!
  5. Sensible was great. With the added bonus of the fake names - N.Sponk, B.Smell. Matchday II on the Amstrad was the greatest for me. I bummed out of games from PS-One as games got too complicated to play!
  6. Must be in his 40's, I assume a forward. Probably an international if he got a European move early in his career. I'm guessing someone from either Peru/Chile/Uruguay. If he was from Brazil or the Arggies we would have herd of him. Did he score against us in the UEFA Cup for Deportivo?
  7. Don't know if its just me as I sit in the Trinity, but its been very noticeable this season that we are keeping a very high line when defencing set plays. Weather that's the new GK influence or we are trying to mitigate the tall opposition players (Like last night), I don't know. Is it just me?
  8. Not sure what to make of this, but the Birmingham FA twitter has stated that we're away to Coleshill in Birmingham Senior Cup. I assume its genuine. If so, that's fantastic news. we had played in the cup since 1998 I think (Halesowen put us out).
  9. Young Stefan in the background. The people of VT get everywhere.
  10. If you look closer, Robert Huth is doing a poor Abbey Road impression.
  11. Not for a bit, for the first team: Harold Harvey-1895 Harold Edgley-1911 Harold Halse-1912 Harold Nash-1915 Quite a nice thought having Jack, Albert & Harold in the team! Edit: Just a thought, we've had some Harry's aswell! Harry Burrows-1956 Harry Chapman-1947 Harry Cooch-1902 Harry Gregory-1970 Harry Griffin-1902 Harry Hadley-1905 Harry Hampton-1904 Harry Morton-1930 Harry Parkes-1939 Harry Yates-1885
  12. Seaman was named in the 90 WC squad, but got injured. Dave 'Lurch' Beasant took his place Just thinking of 90's goalies, Mark Crossley had a great reputation for saving pens.
  13. One for the accountants: 30m more shares issued, is this moving/converting debt? https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/10176070/filing-history
  14. Being the holders, hopefully the club/local media will be better at reporting on the matches played this season. Last season, it was a struggle to find info on the games played. Especially the group stages.
  15. I've been supporting Villa since 1990: Bozzie was the best, followed by James & Spinky. James was here for just 2 seasons and off the top of my head he made probably 2/3 mistakes in his time here. Unfortunately, one of these was in the 2000 cup final. Very underrated, he came to us at a low ebb and left us with his stock considerably enhanced.
