  1. Big game today in the BSC against Leamington, for the right to play Nuneaton in the final. It will be the first time we’ve met in this cup, although our reserve teams have crossed paths with Leamington teams before. Most notably, from the mid-1920s to mid-1930s the 3rd team (sometimes referred as colts team) participated in the Leamington Cup. It had a basic semi-final/final format which in general us & blues colts and the various local Warwick teams such as Nuneaton, Rugby and, of course, Leamington Town took part in. And Cheltenham for some reason. This is how we got on against Leamington, all are Leamington Cup semi-finals: Sat 12 Feb 1927 L2-3 – Scorers: Tully, Phillips Sat 28 Jan 1928 W3-2 – Scorers: Houghton, W Jones 2 (lost to Blues Colts in the final 0-1) Sat 30 Nov 1929 L1-4 – Scorer: Peed Thu 10 Sep 1936 D0-0 Replay - Fri 26 Mar 1937 W5-1 – Scorers: Evans 3, Perry, Bate (beat Cheltenham 5-2 in the final) Yep, that’s future Villa & England star Eric Houghton scoring in 1928. Also, an honourable mention to our fourth team who played in the Warwickshire Football Combination in the 1950s & 60s, who regularly played Leamington Lockhead. Not sure if they are connected to the current Leamington outfit. Charlie Aitken & George Graham had regular outings in Claret & Blue in this league. Apologies for the history lesson, just looking forward to the tie. Fingers crossed for the lads tonight. 4. The attendance was 38000 On a side note, that line-up would have been made void if Joachim had been given international clearance to play for St Kitts, as he planned (he actually flew out to St Kitts to play for them!) Also, most of the depressing moments in the 90's involve Coventry. Drawing 0-0 in 93 in the title chase, losing in the FAC 98 (I thought we stood a good chance of thing it), and this 1-4 in 99. We had always beaten them up to that point.
  5. Though he did ok on Saturday. Not great, but not bad either. There's more to come from him. Happy for him to get more game time. He's looked good on the few snippets I've seen of him.
  6. You've missed out. When he was first stood for election there were sign boards with his photo on. There was one by The Civic by Old Hill cross which was given the little Hitler moustache treatment. One of the funniest things I've ever see!
  7. Some great photos there. This one is interesting, as its not Villa. Its late 1930s to 1958 (when floodlights were installed). So its either England or a cup semi. I’ve done a bit of digging, based on the fact there is one team in white (I can’t really tell the other team) its one of these: England Internationals at VP 3/2/1945 Scotland 3-2 Att: 64000-65800 10/11/1948 Wales 1-1 Att: 68750 FAC Semi-Finals at VP 1946 Charlton-Bolton Att: 70819 1948 Blackpool-Spurs Att: 70687 1953 Blackpool-Spurs Att: 68221 1954 WBA-Port Vale Att: 68221 1956 Man City-Spurs Att: 69788
  8. An enjoyable game to watch last night, not a lot between the sides. Exciting final 10 minutes, both teams could have scored 2 or 3 more. Siniaslo saved well when it looked all over after some poor play at the back. We had a few goalmouth scrambles, Derby getting some good blocks in. For us, Clarke looked quite good again. Neat and tidy, unlucky with a free-kick that was well saved. Knibbs had a good game (note the strapping on the back of his leg). Rowe looked good second half. I do like the look of Vassilev. Also, Brunt looked good when he came on. Team: Siniaslo, Walker (Burton), Rowe, Bazeley-Graham, Raven, Prosser, Knibbs, Vassilev (Brunt), Mooney, Clarke, Archer (Wright). Unused Subs: Lomax, Patterson. Att 325
  9. I might as well pop in on Monday, its within walking distance for me: https://www.avfc.co.uk/News/2019/02/07/u23-venue-update
  10. Just a thought, would Cardiff want their insurers to pay the fee instead of paying the fee themselves and then being reimbursed by the insurers?
  11. That's right BOF, all our games would be away. In the past when we've drawn the original game, we've played the replay away aswell. The last BSC at VP games were the WBA semi in 96 (won 3-1) and the 95 final (lost 0-2 the Solihull Boro). I'd like to think if we go through to the final (a tough ask as Leamington are one league below the National League!), we'd try to host it.
  12. Draw for the BSC semi-final - Leamington. They beat WBA this week (probably helped by the FA Cup replay last night where some U23s played instead of in the BSC). No date set as yet. Will be a hard game, but would love them to get to the final. Another non-league ground out in the sticks, would like to go but will be difficult to get there by public transport. https://twitter.com/BirminghamFA/status/1093177545640562688
  13. No idea, looks like that's where he/his family are from.
  14. If its any use, Cameron Desmond Archer's birth was registered in 2002 at Walsall. This would fit in with the December 2001 DOB stated earlier (birth being registered in the new year).
  15. Didn't have much to do really on Tuesday, as we were on top for a lot of the game. Not many shots to save. Overall, looked quite comfortable. He did give a pen away with a one-on-one. The forward was running slightly away from goal, which saved him from getting sent off. Went the right way for the pen but it was well hit into the corner. Didn't have much of a chance with the second, again well hit into the corner of the goal. In possession, anyways looked to pass the ball on the back four. Shanked one clearance into the crowd, one back pass was half charged down/deflected. Generally with the ball in hand, always looking to offload quickly. Goal kicks were mostly short to the CBs/DCM. Hednesford had a long throw, Sinisalo I think stayed on his line for most of them. That's about as much I can remember!
  16. Can I just add at Eric Houghton was second highest scorer with 30 league goals in 1930/31. So between Pongo & Houghton, they scored 79 league goals in one season. Those were the days!
  17. With us already through to the next round of the PL cup, I fear we'll get nothing at all for the last group games.
  18. You'd just be able to get a Kit-Kat through slots.
  19. Yep, Pressley came on with only a few minutes left. I'm still trying to figure out the Bristol City game last week. The Bristol City twitter stated 2 subs, but photos from the game show that Cox must have come on at some point aswell. OS is indeed rubbish and has been for some time now.
  20. Just to clear up the team last night as both teams website reports are different: Sinisalo, Walker, McConnachie, Bazeley-Graham, Patterson, Prosser, Taylor, Doyle-Hayes, Mooney (Knibbs), Clarke (Guy), Cox (Pressley). Unused Sub:, Ige. No GK on bench.
  21. Kit-Kats. Had one for the first time in ages. The tin-foil opens at the top now after years of it opening at the bottom. Had to flip it around, as I'm not a monster and won't just rip it.
  22. Good game last night, despite the snow. Quite a few heavy touches and misplaced passes from both sides which is to be expected on such conditions. We needed an orange/yellow ball. Corey Taylor was slightly hesitant first half, had a great second half with lots of space to run into as the game opened up. Was our danger man – MOTM. Nice to see one winger shoot and the other popping in the rebound. The goalie didn’t have much to do, was a bit unlucky to give away a pen, might have been better to stay on his feet in hindsight. Both full-backs looked comfortable on the ball. Midfield worked hard, good energy and a few good touches from JDH & Clarke. Prosser holding, got booked for tackle from behind. Mooney had a hard time but did ok. Looked like he up against some experienced lads at the back. Knibbs looked good when he came on. Despite some brave blocks first half, the CB’s got court out for the equaliser. Both going for same ball, the forward picked up the pieces and scored with a good finish. I thought it brave to play out from the back in the snow, but generally the youngsters did well. Overall, a well-deserved win. Should have been 3 or 4 up before Hednesford scored. O’Kelly was in attendance, in the warmth I might add. Delaney (wearing shorts by the way) was funny in giving the ref some stick. Us and Nuneaton into the semis. Leamington/WBA and Stourbridge/Halesowen are the others left. Their games are in Feb. No idea when the draw is.
  23. Quite like McFaddens Cold War. Not one to contemplate modern life, but I simply enjoy the silliness of it all.
