£10m up front is small money! 5 year contract is £2m a year. And I doubt he’s on a bumper contract so all in price should be be huge. Let’s hope he hits the ground running but please remember he still really young and never played in the prem before so some patience is required.

This is very frustrating. I could have gone tonight with my brother (also a Villa fan) but we couldn’t get tickets. We have to fly over so we can’t do last min as the flight will cost a bomb now. To see 500 odd tickets go on sale so late is a kick in the plums. TV and few beers it is!!

I think this is a bit of a cross roads game. We’re at home against a good team who are having a poor season. A win puts us 17 points clear of them and 2 points off the top (at least until Liverpool play). A loss and Spurs are breathing down our neck. We need a bit of momentum again and this is the night to start that. I’m actually pretty confident.

So Pau, Digne and Duran all out. JJ likely out but closer than the others. I think we are a significantly poorer team when we don’t have Pau. He’s so much better on the ball than Lenglet and he passing range is a different level too. Newcastle will play a high press game not dissimilar to Chelsea last Friday night. We need to play around/ through that press if want to get the 3 points here. Both their full backs are poor when opponents run at them. No point in crossing the ball when Watkins will be up against Botman and Schaar. My real concern is set pieces. Newcastle have a big physical team. Burn, Botman, Schaar, Isak, etc and in Tripper they have a guy who can deliver from dead balls. Hopefully we will get the holy grail of more clean sheets with a good attacking performance and a 2-3 nil win.

Boro have every right to hold out for their asking price. Same as Villa have every right to not offer it. Often it comes down to the player saying (either to the privately to the club or publicly) that he wants out. No manager or club want a sulking player for 6 months before the next window opens. I have a feeling it will get done, I don’t think we are miles apart and the player wants the move.

I don’t think there any chance JJ goes in Jan. But I think there’s a chance in the summer. The problem with FFP is that the best players to sell are your home grown talent. And if we can get 60-70m for JJ it funds another push in the transfer market. I’d be gutted to see JJ leave but the cruel reality is that he is the prime candidate.

I think we need to learn from this. Fulham keep crossing the ball and Newcastle are comfortably dealing with it.

It almost seems they are making it as difficult as possible. You’d almost feel sorry for the refs. So you can handball it, as long as you don’t score but you can handball it and pass it to someone else who can score. That makes sense.

I missed the second half yesterday so watched it this morning. Is Cole Palmer the most over rated footballer at the moment? Another of the hyped up English youngster. Can’t wait to see him getting 10 mins on loan at Wolves in 5 years time.

You’d have to think that Rowe is in the 20m plus bracket. Id assume that’s significantly more than we’d pay for Rodgers.

I clearly dont see what others do when it comes to big Jhon! He’s a dynamo on the bench and he runs about a lot. He scored a cracker against Palace when we were really struggling but usually when he comes on he gets a yellow card and not much else. I wouldn’t like him to be sold. He’s still young and only at the club a year. Maybe a loan is the right thing for all involved. But it needs to be somewhere he get minutes.

Best of luck to Donk. He was an underwhelming signing from day 1. Had a very good performances under Unai but not his type of player so best he moves on. I wonder are we going to get a replacement or is Tim expected to step up?

I think with Buendia out for the season and Tielemans struggling for fitness we could do with another player who can pick a pass in the final third. And (hopefully) we are going to be pushing in the league, FA cup and Europa Conf so we need depth!!
