    I agree with your back line now we’ve lost Carlos. But I’d be tempted to replace Youri with Bailey. I think we need some pace in attack or Watkins might get isolated. We have to pray that Pau has 90 mins in the tank. A bit of a worry after not getting off the bench for the last two games.

    There is a saying in law that “ignorance isn’t a defense”! In reality it’s not Pep’s job to agree fees or wages or file financial returns. But he will know that they are cooking the books. He will know that they are spending so much more than everyone else. Does that reduce what he’s done as a manager? For me, yes it does. I think it takes a good driver to win a rally but if your car is 10 times better than the next it’s a lot easier. I fear there won’t ever be a conclusion to the City investigation. They will just kick the can down the road and destroy evidence until there’s not enough to make a reasonable case and it will be dropped.

    There’s a lot of talk that his move won’t be made permanent and in the summer. For me I think he’s been a bit of a disappointment, no doubt he’s a decent player but hasn’t offered nearly enough when he’s gotten the chance. I think I’d prefer Rodgers to get the cameos off the bench and odd start for the remainder of the season.

    I think Pau is the natural choice if we are looking for a defender to step into midfield. Luiz is a worry on his own from a defensive point of view and obviously Tim is inexperienced at this level. I think if he’s fit I’d prefer Pau at left centre back as I don’t trust Carlos/ Lenglet at centre back. Maybe a midfield 3 of Luiz Tim and McGinn gives us the balance.

    Maybe this is Tim’s time to step up. It would be a lot to expect of him but Unai said he let Dendonker go because he’s confident Tim can make the grade.

    I don’t think anyone is honestly questions Emery. People might be questioning some of his decisions but not much more.

    You’re describing their first goal. I do love how Sky have given up even the idea of unbiased broadcasting. They stick Neville on every United game and he talks like most 7 year old United fans. And even he (almost) said Rashford dived. Keane said it straight out at HT.

    The ref was again awful. Really well summed up when McTominay jumps into the away fans and doesn’t get booked. The ref was determined to not do his job today and he did it to a T!

    I’m actually not that annoyed by the performance. I think on another day (and likely against another team) we’d have scored 4 or 5 and won that game easily. Having to watch Lenglet for another 90mins is the most disappointing thing. Our subs were useless. I don’t see the point of bringing on Zaniolo anymore. And Tielemans added nothing. Taking off Bailey was complete madness. Hopefully Bouba isn’t too bad but it looked a sore one.

    The more I’ve thought about this game I think we need legs in midfield. I’d be tempted to put JMc into the middle of the park (anlong with Luiz and Bouba) and get him to run and hassle (I assume) Casemiro. He’s a good player with time and space but he struggles when he’s pressed. United are a counter attacking team a d we struggle against teams to park the bus. Hopefully we get an early goal to settle the nerves.

    I think Unai knows the drop in quality from Pau to Lenglet is immense. I think if he’s trained for the week he will start. Digne on the other hand is bench at best. I think we might see JJ come in for some legs in midfield but that’s about it.

    There will be no improvement in the game until there is recognition that the refs aren’t good enough. The idea that they are as good as we can get is what will hold the entire thing back If you wanted to make a real difference start recruiting right now for a better level of referee and stop trying to introduce gimmicks to try and convince people of improvement. What VAR has shown in bright lights is that the people are the problem. Not the rules or the systems in place!!

    If Pau starts I’d be confident of getting something. Another 90mins of Lenglet we are guaranteed another loss.
