    I think (if fit) we will start with Konsa and Moreno at full back with Pau and Lenglet at centre back. I think UE likes the three centre backs when we are in possession. Also I think the three centre back give us a bit more height to deal with set pieces (although none are especially dominant in the air). I can’t see JJ being ready to start so the rest of the team is a little more straightforward. Emi Konsa Lenglet Pau Moreno Luiz McGinn Tielemans Bailey Watkins Rodgers I don’t see UE playing both Bailey and Diaby so for me it’s either Rodgers or Zaniolo to replace JJ. We have a pretty solid bench with Cash, Digne, Carlos, Tim, Diaby, Zaniolo to come on.

    It was a frustrating watch. It’s always a bit of a worry when (I think) both teams were happy to play out a 0-0 draw and settle it in the second leg. I think we have come so far under UE that going away to Ajax and getting a draw is seen as a poor result. The big disappointment for me was Diaby, after his pretty tame shot in the first half he never really got near the goal again. But to give Ajax credit they were very compact when we had the ball. I don’t think we got behind them once all game. This one will be forgotten quickly if we pick up a win next Thursday at VP.

    I think UE showed a lot of faith in Tim to start him away in Ajax. That’s a champions league venue and they have great fans who really get behind the team. I thought he did what was asked of him. He sat in the middle of the park and was disciplined. He also gave McGinn a chance to get a bit of a rest.

    As bad as we’ve been for sometime. Less said about the ref the better.

    We’ve been poor so far. Midfield looks clueless. Really missing McGinns energy and drive. I don’t think Ollie has had a proper touch of the ball.

    This ref is doing a new game where he randomly decides if someone gets a free kick. No real logic or sense to it.

    Assuming JJ is out I think we will go with: Emi Cash Konsa Lenglet Moreno McGinn Luiz Tielemans Bailey Watkins Rodgers I have a feeling we might see Tim in centre mid in place of Youri. I think we will see some players getting a rest in the second half with an eye on spurs. I’d expect to see Luiz, Ollie (especially if Duran has 20mins in him), Bailey, Konsa off in the second half.

    Good to see him back out on the grass. Our best performances have come with him and Pau at CB with Konsa and Digne at full back. Could we see a return to this on Sunday against Spurs? Diego is the most physically dominant centre back we have at the min. He could help with our issues from set plays!

    I don’t think anyone claimed Endo fouled the Chelsea player. He just impeded him from an offside position and stopped him retreating into the box.

    The worst I have seen from the worst refs in the world. Mike Oliver will be devastated. He did everything he could but he comes away with nothing.

    Fair play to Luton. They have played the ref throughout this game. Fabricate any contact then go down and scream. This fraud will give them a free kick.

    On any question like this just ask yourself. Will that decision benefit Villa because we are getting nothing from this ref! He's set his stall out from the first min of this second half we aren’t winning this game.

    Brilliant half despite the best efforts of the ref. Two nil up but we need to play smart second half. This ref will do his best to send one or two of our players off. Impressed with Rodgers, looks a good player.

    Well 5-6 of the final 11 cost nothing. Not like the £200 million centre midfield duo for Chelsea.

    Delighted for Chelsea. They are everything that’s wrong with football. Billions of pounds and they can’t beat Liverpool’s u21s!

    There is a lot of talk in this thread about Villa and Hull but remember the player (and his agent) will have played a significant role too. The reality is we don’t know what the terms of the clause are but you can be sure if JPB performs well and Villa want him back then the player will do well out of the deal too. I can’t remember the player but want there a situation a few years back where a club had a buy back clause and they resigned the player just to immediately sell them on for a significant profit? So these things can be worded anyway the clubs want. Last point I agree with others on two points. The championship is not the premier league and good performances there don’t necessarily translate to the premier league. And despite how good JPB is and how well he’s playing would he be a starter or even a first sub on the current Villa team? I think not. He would be a great addition for cover and cup games.
