Another brilliant story unfolding in front of our eyes. So happy for maverick Bertie. When was the last time we had such unity as this? Every player seemingly now thinks; F this it's my time to shine!
I knew it! Hence my 'couldn't be bothered to finish the argument I started' from a few pages back. Put briefly: we haven't had a truly prolific (I know, I know, we all liked Deano, Dublin, Yorke etc.) striker since the golden period.
Surely on for his best ever season, and I really hope he finally breaks our 20+ in a season goalscoring hoodoo. Who was the last player to do this for us???
Can really add something, as we all know. Let's hope, like literally every other player (maybe Bailey and Digne apart) he comes back and thrives under a proper manager. A rejuvenated Coutinho is exactly what we want to finish a season on a huge high.
Thing is the same could've been said about Arsenal making the top 4 this season, let alone winning the league. Newcastle have been radically improved by coaching over big money signings and now look a shoo-in for top 4. You just never know what can happen given the right circumstances. We carry on as we are with a couple of high class signings over summer, we have every chance of being in the mix just as Leicester found themselves to be.
I think it was Dan Bardell speaking on 5Live the other evening, on to speak about OW, who was asked about previous star strikers at the club. He had to go all the way back to Gary Shaw / Peter Withe as an answer.
Thought that nicely summed up our relative obscurity ever since.
