  1. He's very versatile , can play in any attacking position, including on the wing. Probably his best position, as mentioned, is just behind the striker as he's not a prolific goalscorer but is quite creative. In other words he's not the kind of player who'd score 20 goals a season, but at his best he could get 10 goals and 10 assists. If Villa persist with Labert's 4-3-3 from the end of the season he could play on Gabby's or Andi's position, but his versatility would allow him to fit into any formation.
  2. Even though the google translation is surprisingly good here is the correct translation of his quotes, as they're very interesting : 'I'm aware of Aston Villa's interest, which is serious.Time will tell what will happen. I think that the summer is going to be hard for me and hope there will be a happy ending. Even if I stay in Krasnodar it'd be good for me.' 'As far as I know the negotiations between Aston Villa and Lech Poznan regarding Alexander Tonev are in a more advanced state. I hope Tonev and me will be united in England. What could be better than that?'
  3. If the reports weren't mixed but only good Tonev wouldn't cost 2.5m but 15m and would be out of Villa's league. People expecting him to have an impact similar to Benteke are wide off the mark, but he'd be a good squad addition playing the Zoggy/Holman role. Popov is the one who could make a huge impact.
  4. Now Popov would be quality. Not an out and out goalscorer but he offers a lot of creativity, dribbles and passes really well and is a hard-worker.
  5.   Well being Bulgarian I've seen him play full games. He's unlikely to be a star but would be a good replacement for Zoggy. It'd be great to have a player who can score from outside the box once in a while. He'll probably go to Celtic anyway.
  6. He's too good for Aston Villa at the moment. Even with the rosiest fantasies for next season we'd be finishing mid-table and he'd be off next summer. That's the natural way things go. What's important is that Villa manage to squeeze every penny out of the buyer and re-invest the money smartly. That said, grass is not always greener. Yea, no doubt he looks a beast now but a lot of players have had great seasons only to flop the next. Last summer Newcastle kept Cabaye and Tiote after a great season when they were supposedly valued at 20m+ each and now,one poor season later, this doesn't seem like such a home run for Newcastle. They might have been better off taking the big money last summer.
  7. If Lerner is engaged in this and provides funds then : Get rid of high earners who don't play; Keep Benteke and Weimann; Sign Bridcutt and McCarthy to strenghten the midfield; Add an experienced CB, maybe a Shawcross or someone from the continent, and a LB competition for Bennett ( Cresswell? ); Add a couple of attacking options - Robson-Kanu and maybe someone like Sinclair on loan if Zoggy is sold. I also like Deeney if Watford don't go up. With the premier league being so top heavy and so poor below the 6th/7th spot, I can see a realistic chance to be comfortably in the 7th-9th range next season.
  8. Hope Villa beat Chelsea and Wigan beat Arsenal. Would make the final day very interesting.
  9. I'd say yes, but without the publicity and drama. Just don't announce it, but don't give the #19 shirt to any player. At least not in the foreseeable future.
  10. Yep our quota is full with Zoggy and Ireland. No need for a 3rd one.
  11. Some of the GOOD things are very very subjective, what nice style? Worst defense a Villa team has had in the Prem and one of the worst attacking teams to boot. I don't find 50 yard passes that cut right through our defence to be anything near being a nice style, but that's just me. These GOODs and BADs sound a bit like : Bad : - small boobs - short legs - ugly face Good : - nice personality - can cook pizza - good with kids Anyway, don't want to get in an argument, but I find your stance a bit too aggressive. Fwiw I think Lambert should stay mostly because I don't think Villa would be able to attract a better manager, whether we stay up or not, and because I hope he's learnt from his mistakes, but there's no denying he's been terrible tactically and apparently isn't very good at inspiring a team too.
  12. Apart from the obvious Ireland answer, I'd say Darren Bent. 20+ million for 20 goals and likely being sold for peanuts in the summer.
  13. You mean like improving the wages to revenue %? Oh wait...
  14. So why did the club continue to give outrageous wages to players after MON left?
  15. Lambert has done really bad, but sacking him now is not the answer. He should be given the whole season. Hell, even McShit got the whole season ( though he was doing a much better job if we're honest ). Only a month ago, after the l'pool result, people were discussing how none of the players could be replaced cause apprently they were all that good and talented, now it's all doom. A couple of good results will swing the mood again. We need a couple of decent january signings to survive, not even that expensive, a CB and a DM, someone like Parker on loan and maybe a Distin. Our squad is bad but it's not that bad, especially the attacking options, we just need to be more organized and get a result or two to help raise the morale. That said, if we manage to survive, most of the players Lambert bought should be shipped out. Bennet, Lowton, KEA have been awful. Westwood is alright but hasn't shown anything special yet. Benteke is good, but we shouldn't just hoof it to him. It's OK to try to play a young side, it's OK to play 3 or 4 youngsters at a time, but what he's trying to do is never going to work, not even Mourinho could get results with a defence consisting of Lowton-Clark-Baker-Bennett, shielded by Delph and Bannan. Like someone said, Lambert must have believed his own hype. These results would have hopefully brought him down to earth.
  16. 0:8, 0:4, 0:3 -> clearly moving in the right direction. Expect us to even get a draw in a few games.
  17. That's like saying we were twice as good as against Chelsea because we only lost 4:0. Stats from last season's game : Possession : Villa 54%, Tottenham 46% Shots : Villa 12, Tottenham 23 Corners : Villa 7, Tottenham 9 Compared to last night's : Possession : Villa 39%, Tottenham 61% Shots : Villa 4, Tottenham 20 Corners : Villa 2, Tottenham 16 Stats taken from BBC. How some people have the audacity to accuse others of being biased, I will never know...
  18. Well we're twice as good as last game. Going in the right direction people.
  19. What's with all the negativity? We even had a corner in the end. Surely that's a sign we're moving in the right direction! We're still a work in progress, can't you see? In the second half we're probably even going to have a shot on goal, what else could you want against these top half teams? Doom mongers
  20. I'd be happy with 2 home wins against Wigan and Soton, anything else from the next 5 games would be gravy.
  21. How much is minus zero? Is it less ot more than zero?
