  1. Thing is if we let Given go and replace him with someone like Green or Butland we'd be downgrading the position, whereas QPR would be improving. If we keep going this route for each position, then we'd end up with a worse team than last season's. I'm not a fan of Given long contract, but right now he's probably the best goalkeeper available to Villa, so I'd rather he stays until we can actually get an improvement.
  2. With only 4-6 mil net to spend, like your 'itk' sources have told you, who do you expect him to go for? Messi?
  3. Just like your 'balanced' comment before Briny's? Anyway, MON is back now and Villa will be going in the right direction again, so I'm happy.
  4. I knew I had to check the comments after the long joke before reading it
  5. Don't think he's ever signed anyone from abroad for any of his clubs. Brought Ayala from Liverpool on loan, but that's not really from abroad, tbh.
  6. Or our first choice might not have Villa as his first choice? I don't think we're going to appoint a half decent manager before Chelsea and Liverpool do - everyone would be waiting for them to make a move.
  7. The next Villa manager will have a very disappointed villa crowd to deal with after all this drama.
  8. ... and uses Fifa manager for player scouting. lol hypocrite.
  9. Source? http://www.birminghammail.net/news/top-stories/2012/05/20/aston-villa-ole-gunnar-solskjaer-uses-xbox-to-prepare-for-big-games-97319-31009309/ This guy is an amateur. What's your opinion on Moyes then?
  10. Richard, agree with you that Ole is a much bigger risk than Lambert or Martinez and if you asked me a couple of days ago I would have prefered them over Ole, however, seeing as all the fans have apparently united and excited about Ole I have changed my view because the fans approval and the goodwill and time ge'd get would be extremely important and right now it feels like if either Lambert or Martinez are signed over Ole it would be a massive let down for a lot of Villa fans and thus for the future manager as well. I feel only AVB or Moyes would make Villa fans more excited than Ole right now and they're both unattainable for Villa IMO.
  11. Great! Then we could use the money to buy a whole team of Alan Huttons and Karl Henrys.
  12. Used to think Liverpool fans were the most deluded. Not anymore.
  13. Lambert is MON 2.0, so I'd def want him at Villa. He'll want funds, though, just like any half decent manager would.
  14. You're right, but we were awful defending them with Friedel last season as well.
  15. why is he clueless for saying that? of course we're aiming for europe. it's not realistic, but that's the aim. it wouldve been the aim at the start of the season, and it wouldve been the aim at christmas If we're aiming at unrealistic goals, then why not aiming for the title? Why Europe? Or aiming for something less unrealistic is OK?
  16. Disagree. What would it sound like? 1st option : The great medical staff saved him, but they wouldn't have if it wasn't for the almighty one. This one would downgrade the medical staff's heroics. 2nd option : The great medical staff saved him and no prayers or god references had any effect at all. Which would make your point moot IMO.
  17. I envision the next god thread brewing here
  18. There will be lots of these discussions in the summer.
  19. Of the 14 players that played yesterday only 4 were MON signings. Just saying.
  20. Can't someone from the PR department explain to him that saying things like : “I’ve not got a magic wand and I don’t think there are a lot of managers who could do a lot better than the job I am doing just now,” said the Villa boss. are disastrous and won't sit well with anyone - fans, players, journos. Isn't there at least one properly professional person working at the club?
  21. Also the recruitment of Mcleish you have to take that into account For me it works out as Houllier = 5M Houllier back room staff = 1.5M Mcleish (compo to sha) = 3M Mcleish backroom staff = 0.5M MON = 2M McLeish's is not included in the 12M, it'll be in next year's accounts, as it happened post May 31st.
  22. If, as we were lead to believe, Houllier was on a 3 year contract, 2-3 million per and if we assume he's got his full payment for the remaining 2 years when he got sacked, that'd leave more than 6 mil from the 12M quoted. Where did it go? Houllier's staff - 2 mil at best and that's very generous. Did MON and the club settle at a 3-4 million payment?
