  1. They're nothing like last season's West Brom if you've actually watched their games. They're not winning by scraping results and backs to the wall tactics, they're genuinely outplaying opponents on a regular basis, have an extremely solid defence and retain possession at a great level. They're unlucky there are so many very good teams this year, so it's very unlikely they'll be top 4, but they're certainly in that top 8 group that will probably separate from the rest in a month or so.
  2. So we aren't allowed to have an opinion on a former player? Yes, that's exactly what I said, it's so obvious I've used these exact words in my post. Doh.
  3. The desire to knock a former player who hasn't spoken a single negative word about the club, unlike others, only because of a troll's opinion on him is quite pathetic frankly.
  4. Seems like a lot of people's expectations are lower, or equal at best, compared to what they were under Doug.
  5. 1) What were your expectations when Doug was in charge? To battle for top six, to look at winning a cup. 2) What were your expectations when Randy took over? To push on and look to get 4th, to win cups and keep progressing. 3) What are your expectations now (today as things stand)? To avoid relegation. 4) What are your expectations for the future? Tough one as 'future' is too vague. In the nearest future, say 5 years, I expect Villa to be a comfortable mid-table club, as things stand.
  6. There's hardly a more pathetic response on a message board than this one. Are you like twelve? Edit : meh not worth it
  7. Well winning in the long run comes with being good at possession, so it might be a pointless stat in a single game or two, but overall all good teams tend to keep possession of the ball and there are few teams, if any, that are successful while continuously having around 40% possession.
  8. Question should James McCarthy have been sent off? Would it have changed the game? It was the same type of challenge that Westwood himself made on Sigurdsson(?) the previous game and got only yellow as well. Don't think the referee helped Everton at all, besides Vlaar had a very clear handball in our penalty area.
  9. With all due respect, VillaTrust, in my opinion you keep digging a hole with posts like this one. Get a PR to check them before you post or contact Nicky Kaye, she did OK with the General's stuff.
  10. 20 points from the next 11 games is extremely optimistic, but about 15 would be nice. It'd put us on 25 points with 18 games to go, which is just under 50 points projected for the season and an improvement on last season, albeit only a small one.
  11. Don't like the 40 nations thing. Probably will mean 10 groups and 4 second place teams not advancing. Meh. Or maybe 8 groups with 5 teams?
  12. Sure they'll lose some of their better players, but if they have a manager with a smarter plan than spending 40 million on Ireland, Bent and N'Zogbia, they can pull a mini Tottenham and actually get better with the money they'll get. Their problem is that in order to get into top 4 they'll need to spend a fortune and 5th/6th isn't a big deal when trying to attract top players, as we've found out ourselves.
  13. At the same rate we'd be going for about 42-43 points, not 38, which is about where we are supposed to be, based on the quality of the team and will very likely be enough to avoid relegation. Chill, it's cool.
  14. Rooting for Newcastle today cause it's in Villa's favour. No need for Sunderland to get results.
  15. The more he sits on the bench the better player he becomes it seems. He can't misplace a pass or let a player go past him to score while he's warming the bench.
  16. True, Risso. Also note that the Pochetino dude hasn't kicked out all of their defenders and replaced them with his own - he just made them work and bought one excellent defender to finish off the job for only a million or so more than what we've paid for our reserve forward who doesn't see the pitch even when Benteke is obviously not fully fit.
  17. How can you possibly call Okore an excellent signing and in the same time claim jury's still out on Kozak, surely jury's still out on both of them. Also, Lowton and Vlaar have been major parts of the worst Villa premier league defence ever assembled. They can be classified as OK signings at best IMO.
  18. Probably true, but who cares if a player bought for a million costs 2 now when the opposition have players worth 10+ mil that they have to compete against.
  19. If only we had the chairman's backing. Agree. But not sure we have the other three either.
  20. Have to admit I really enjoy watching them and I'm really impressed with how they're able to impose their will. What's more important - watching them gives me hope for Villa, that a good team can be assembled in a couple of seasons if you have a solid base, a good manager, chairman's backing and a good plan.
  21. They really haven't though. They paid 13m for McCarthy and also brought in Barry and Lukaku on loan. At a guess I'd say wages for them 3 combined would be easily over 100k a week and that's taking into account for Chelski and City paying some wages. How much do you think we shelled out on wages last summer? What does that prove? Apart from that their combined wages for this season are less than what we've paid for Kozak.
