  1. Remember his time here very fondly - couldn't wait for the games, a lot of very likable players, some great results, some exciting football. Of course, he did have a glass ceiling, but he was far better than anyone we've had since he was sacked. Just watching Ireland play with such a passion reminds me of what we've missed so much. Clear identity, plan and ability to raise the team performance way beyond the individual abilities - would love some of this in the current Villa but we're a million miles away right now.
  2. Somehow Lambert managed to do this overnight.
  3. Doesn't help that the team is managed incredibly poorly on and off the pitch and full of players I dislike.
  4. Don't bother to watch games anymore. Don't bother to even check livescore. Don't bother to even check the result until the following day. And I'm better off for it. Best time I've had as a fan for years.
  5. One of the attackers : - has been filmed with the ISIS flag, - has been a part of a group whose leader has been arrested and sent to jail, - has been banned from going to mosques, - has been reported to authorities multiple times There is no more obvious threat, that's not a sleeper cell. Everyone else will be less obvious.
  6. Could you stand up in front of the parents of a killed child and say this to their faces?
  7. Eh it's an exaggeration obviously about the championship. Most of their premier league players, bar Coleman, are squad players for lower table teams. It's subjective but there are many higher profile and more expensive championship players than the likes of Meyler, O'Shea, etc. What's not subjective is that Serbia, Austria and Wales all have much higher profile players, that play in better teams and cost much more. Still, big fan of this Ireland team. Hope they qualify again.
  8. This current Ireland team is shockingly bereft of any real quality. They'd struggle to get to mid table in the championship. Love rooting for them but if they get to another big competition with this team it would be a miracle.
  9. Wait, you're a Villa fan AND a Kings fan? Damn! Rough life! I like the Kings and hope you have luck, but the last few years they've made terrible trades and acquisitions and they can't even bottom out and go full tank mode because of that Philly trade as they don't control their own picks in 2017 and 2019. Have to hope for incredible luck with the ping pong balls ( both Sacramento and Philly to go in top 3 ) and in free agency in the summer. Incredible new arena though!
  10. Because there very likely was a better offer than that. About 20 NBA teams could beat that offer if they wanted. Supposedly they took the NO one because Vivek was a big fan of Buddy Hield and thought he had Steph Curry potential It was basically Vlade saving face by telling journos about the better offer and pointing at Vivek. Both have to go, I agree, they're totally incompetent. Vlade didn't even know basics from the CBA when he was hired and he probably still doesn't know it in details now. His deals have been abysmal for the franchise.
  11. Kings are the Aston Villa of the NBA. Edit : That said, there are legit reasons why they got so little for him. They had to commit 5yr/$209mil to him in the summer - tough thing to bind your franchise to such a malcontent and loser like him. And if they had waited until the summer to trade him, but without giving him the extension, then they would have got lowballed even worse. It was just a complete mismanagement of an asset.
  12. ^ A good reminder that things could always be worse.
  13. At least we've won the transfer market again.
  14. He's likely number 3 there, as Berisha is now starting in place of their number 1 - Sportiello.
  15. Playing badly and picking up points is great but at some point it becomes unsustainable. Have to start playing well and getting points to get into top 6.
  16. He really really really doesn't, he's a terrible football player and it's not like he's very young, he's 25 or so. He has scored like 5 league goals in close to 100 games after leaving Villa. He might have been good when young, as have many others before him, but the ship has sailed, his next club will likely be in a lower division, not a higher one.
  17. Very brave of Bruce to play with 9 men, but he should have put a striker and another midfielder in.
  18. How much players make only matters if the owner pulls the plug, e.g. Lerner. Other than that it's more important whether they improve the team or not. Brady improves current Villa.
  19. Even RDM could get out of this group.
  20. Signed 4 defenders and proceeded to have the best defensive season in ages. Also 2 players that were sold for a profit. The problem was that in that summer Man City spent 3-4 times as much, signing the likes of Tevez, Adebayor, Barry, etc. Villa could never compete with that realistically. It wasn't the players bought because we were never in for the expensive and better players the other clubs got, it was the investment that was lacking.
  21. Congrats Ireland, such an important win. What a great job with this terrible squad!
  22. Doesn't matter if he gets exciting signings or dull ones, as long as he wins football games.
