HH = Heil Hitler. We're in Denver Colorado, but I'm from Stourbridge and if it's a boy I want Dudley! Or I'd go with Aston for obvious reasons but she's having none of it. I really love Moab UT, but Moab is biblical and thats just not us. It's funny though, most names she comes up have a connection to an actual person for me. It's hard finding a name which is unique and has no connotation but isn't really outside of the box.

Ok - just talking with the wife and I said "I'll ask the VT'ers what they think" So she's preggers again! yippee! and we're talking about names. Our last name begins with the letter "H" and so if we pick a name that starts with an "H" the initials will be HH. It's my understanding that within far right tw@s online this has a lot of meaning. Or am I being a bit over the top here? Are people really going to be offended if our kid's initials are HH. By discounting any names that start with the H am I being daft? More broadly, how you lot choose your kids names? And we're not making up something daft that doesn't exist. Those that do that can go on the list.

It's slightly misleading but equally depressing. The shooting and homicide is very localized to the South Side of Chicago. It's always been the "meanest part of town" as Sinatra sang, but since the 60's starting back with the Dan Ryan Expressway, red lining and on and on, it's been made and kept a ghetto.

It's interesting that no-one is talking about what actually led to the unrest/rioting/looting/protesting/rallying - take your pick on whatever narrative you want to spin. The role of local government and the police is what you lead with. Well, Robert Blake was shot 7 times (3 times in the side and 4 in the back) by a Kenosha cop. He is African American, is now paralyzed for life and for the rest of his days will shit into a colostomy bag. This was during a time social unrest in the US due to the rise of far-right extremism and a spate of shootings of African Americans by white cops. It was another hideously violent end to yet another white police officer dealing with a black man in the US (whatever you may or may not read into Blake's criminal past from what we in the public know of it.) The local government have not charged the cops involved and they both returned to duty in April 2021. I would say that the role of local government and the police departments is beyond negligent and is criminal. The catch all police departments in the US are undertrained/underfunded/corrupt/dysfunctional/full of white supremacists - take your pick on whatever narrative you want to spin. It just isn't working right now, hasn't been for decades and sensible conversations need to be had about retraining and creating other departments that react to crime and poverty.

That's bad and I hate it when it happens. Today I was actually "involved." My son's (he's 2 & 1/2) "class parent" for his early learning center had organized a thank you card for his teacher (yes I signed it) and a hamper of optional gifts (we did not contribute.) At 8am we got a "Thanks to everyone who signed the card. Jess and the team were sooooo happy!!!!" complete with an incorrectly formatted picture of the gift hamper so if you had any desire to look at it you'd have to open in another app, rotate it 90 degrees and probably reduce and re-render it. (I did not do this.) THEN, 50 housewives all decided to REPLY ALL, with "Thank YOU, Janet, you're the best," "Fantastic idea Janet" etc, etc. I was ready to go full Falling Down. I thought every parent had to work these days. What do these women do that they have time write inane notes about an inane gift for an inane holiday. FML

It's almost as if authoritarian regimes use their domestic law enforcement departments to manipulate their populations and the do that with a lot of psyops.

My wife and I were fortunate to take a trip down there in 2016. Buenos Aires and down to El Calafate to hike on the Perito Moreno Glacier. The meats were out of this world. They cook lamb by crucifying it in front of a fire! It's wild. However any other type of food was like stepping back in time, even in the capital. It was the level of food you'd get eating out in the UK in the 80's. The country itself had the feel of a bit of a time warp. I used to date a Bosnian Muslim and the Serb war crimes were horrific. Sadly Serb nationalism tied up with anti-muslim sentiment allowed the leadership to easily manipulate the Serb population. Tito held Yugoslavia together for decades allowing the Serbs hatred to fester. As her mum said, if it was Muslims slaughtering Christians in Europe the bombs would be falling really fast.
