  1. Delph shows he is the master of the quote
  2. You could say about any number of players; take away their key asset and they become rather less. Gabby isn’t a great player, but he’s a good player for Villa. When we are in the top six we might think about options, but until then he’s a key player.
  3. Gary Neville was great to listen to today; told it as it was.
  4. he’s missing the 1% that means you either make it or don’t make it at the highest level. I can’t explain why, its just not going to happen for him. All I can feel is sadness that he won’t achieve anything with Villa. Sad for him. Sad for the club. But thats football.
  5. Hurt is the wrong word i feel it and i feel it in some spots than others, i thought the point of rolling is that you’ll feel it and your helping those areas, like this Aussie bloke demonstrates. The points he says you should feel it i do, i/e not my whole thigh.. I dont do any strengthening exercies at all, but i’m defiantly interested in strengthening if its going to help my running. Err any strengthening exercise recommendations? To be honest i think i’m more PFPS, runners knee than ITB as its round the front of my knee and specifically when i’m coming down stairs, so could do with some strengthening exercise for that. Its hard to recommend exact exercises, without being an expert on the problem, I could easily worsen the problem. I would recommend finding a good physio. The problem with the information on the internet is almost too much information, and it doesn’t deal with the small nuances of injuries If you are in Birmingham I think these are the main men or through the university sports department which has a national reputation The thing is it can get very expensive very quickly, but if they can solve the problem it is worth the money.
  6. Just wait until you reach 40...
  7. If it hurts then you have a problem; I had massive ITB issues; don’t get them at all now. It was mainly down to strengthening exercises, so I suspect your pain is a symptom not the problem itself. What strengthening are you doing?
  8. Any recommendation on foam rolling routines, or any sites with good session examples? Currently just do my hip ITB for knee’s really.. You can literally roll any part of the leg that has soft tissue. I do the calves, hips, gluts, quads. This might help Its important that you do them relatively slowly and that you hold on parts of muscles that feel tight. Also change the angle of the roller; its easier to do with a longer roller. You can also use a tennis ball to get into certain hard to reach muscles.
  9. Careful with not overloading on the cycling - I get more injured from cycling (volume) than I do from running Thats because you are cycling up Alpe D’Huez with a 66/11 single speed
  10. foam rollers are great. The key is to keep doing them and keep to the routine. I spend 30 minutes a day in front of the tv of stretching, strength exercises, and rolling. Its like training, the more you do it the easier it becomes, but also the effect improves. Also would recommend a sports massage if you are doing a lot of training.
  11. Its first come first served, which I prefer to the lottery of the marathon. You need to provide a medical certificate to prove you are fit... La Marmotte is part of a series of other Sportives; I think one covers Ventoux, but they also run an extended La Marmotte over three or four days. If you think you are up to it, you can do a time trial on Alpe D’Huez on Sunday morning! Genuine madness. But the toughest multi day is Haute Route which is done over 7 days, 20 cols, over 20000 metres of climbing. You can choose to do the Alps, Pyrennes or now the Dolomites. Thats hardcore http://www.hauteroutealps.org/en/
  12. Bringing it over to this thread, how easy was it to get in, someone said to me it was hard to get a space? Not that hard if you apply when the entry opens. I applied a day after and got in, but by the end of the day it had finished. I will be riding a compact so 50/34 and 27 at the back. I think I could do a pass with 25, but not three in one day. As for getting any cycling gear, if you don’t want brand new, then ebay is the way to go. I ve bought both my pairs of dura ace on there, and will probably get some new carbon ones for La Marmotte. Probably the one thing I wouldn’t buy is shoes; cycling shoes are much more personal and need to be tried on IMO; too big or small and you are losing power or in pain.
  13. As posted elsewhere I am doing La Marmotte the mother of all Sportives.
  14. And apparently a complete arsehole. "While in charge of Wolfsburg during a training camp in July 2008 in Switzerland Magath declared after a team lunch that training would be canceled for the day. Instead the players would be rewarded with coffee and cake at a nearby location with the provision that the players retain their training attire just in case. As the players prepared to board the gondola that took them up the mountain to the coffee house their delight was soon replaced with horror as Magath told them they would get there by running the full 2362 meters. They ran for two and a half hours straight up the hill with Magath running right behind the team. Their star striker Grafite collapsed before the end and had to be carried down the valley on a stretcher while other players broke down in tears as they reached the summit where they were finally able to enjoy their coffee and cake." Perhaps he will make them swim the Thames to get to training To be fair he did it himself!
  15. He was a true gentleman, and one of the last links to a different era. I genuinely felt sad when I heard this news.
  16. Will be doing some in the autumn; training dedicated to La Marmotte the mother of all cycling sportives; Col du Glandon, Col du Galabier and finish on the Alpe...
  17. I ve never heard any politicians make promises about transport and then fail to deliver when in power. Wilson and Beeching
  18. Bercow possibly in a very bad mood?
  19. Milner wasn’t a great player. He was a great player for Villa. Bacuna might go on to be that good, but I don’t think he has the engine and determination of Milner which is what made Milner great for us.
  20. On the balance of probabilities, I'd say it would be someone on work experience with News International. Unlikely. They all seem to use some professional who goes through people’s bins, I ve forgotten his name, but Private Eye used to feature him on a regular basis
  21. They won a game at home and lost a penalty shoot out. Only Man U fans would call that a drubbing
