  1. I'm sure the records show that every manager to relegate Villa has been Scottish. Just get an Englishman in, Randy, and we'll be alright.
  2. 10 games left, of which you can probably say we'd expect to lose 4 for definite. Means to get to that magical 40 points we've got to take 12 points from a possible 18. Not beyond our reach but when you think we've taken something stupid like 9 points from 13 games then it becomes a bit scary. Just got to hope we beat Norwich and make things a little bit easier for ourselves.
  3. Lambert needs to sort the team out because the way we're going we could end up being dragged right in to the relegation fight. If we fail to beat Norwich and then lose the next three, which is very possible, we could go into the last 6 games from a bottom 3 position. The last game is almost a write-off so that could leave us needing 11 or 12 points from 15 just to get to 40 points. The way this team is playing there's no chance of that. I am fearing that we might just get to 35 points and that's going to leave us praying for help from a lot of other teams.
  4. Hope so much that he proves me wrong but I have a feeling that Benteke is the kind of player who only shows his true self when there's some kind of reward awaiting him. New contract, move away etc. I bet he will be outstanding the year before his contract is up for renewal if he's still here then.
  5. For me it was more a case of "I told you so". I watched it with my family and me and my brother were both saying we would concede in the last minute, it was THAT predictable.
  6. His mistakes today we're replacing Westwood with Sylla - should have been Albrighton as we were in the ascendancy - and the Bertrand with Bennett - still hasn't learnt that this kid is not up to it and Clark should have been on instead. The subs killed the game for us. However, you can't blame the manager for the poor forward play. 3 vs 2 and Benteke finds their defender = shocking.
  7. Seriously wondering if Benteke's only ambition was to earn 40 grand a week. Even if he does get picked for the World Cup squad he's only going to be a sub at best, in this form.
  8. Two failed attempts to clear it but it doesn't help when your Captain sits on his arse and then your right back turns his back on the shot! Can't understand why Clark wasn't brought on in place of Bertrand.
  9. We should still have a transfer kitty so any sales should be added on to that for the manager to boost the team/squad. But, with Lerner, anything is possible.
  10. To win at least 6 or 7 at home and lose no more than 4. To not have a relegation worry at all during the season. To have a good cup run in one of the cups.
  11. Nooo!!! I really think a little more progression than staying up was expected this season. Your expectations of our club seem to be really low SuttonpaulNot by Lambert! Hairyhands asked me, about 3-4 weeks before the season started, what I thought of the close season and expected from the season ahead. I said that, if we continued playing the way we finished last season, and, if the new signings settled in well, we could quite easily finish in the top 10 - maybe even as high as 8th. Hairyhands said that it would be asking a lot from the team and for me to remember at what level we were making our purchases. He then said that, if offered it, Lambert would snap your hand off for 17th before a ball was even kicked. That says everything about our ambitions for this season!
  12. I just dont think he is capable of much more! He has had a whole 2nd season with money to spend and im seeing worst than last!! As much as this season hasn't been great, I don't think we're seeing worse than last season.
  13. Fair point, Briny. Think it all depends how they get on in that first leg against Barca. If they still have a chance I can imagine them resting their their best players against us.
  14. As above, that Norwich game is huge! I'd have considered it an easy 3 points but I can't help thinking that Lambert will restructure the starting line-up just to get Holt into the side. Could be successful if tried, but very unlikely. Stoke will be a different proposition to what we've had here previously and might press us and give us some space to attack them. Fancy a draw at least there. I fear for our goal difference in the Manchester games. I can see us shipping 7 or 8 across the two games. Chelsea aren't the best away from home and we've always done OK against Mourinho so it wouldn't surprise me if we got a draw out of that one. Having said that, they could also quite easily stick 3 or 4 past us. Overall, I'll take 4 points, would love 6 but fear it will only be a 2 point return.
  15. The teams at the bottom, for me, are not as bad as we've seen in previous years. This lot are all capable of scraping points out of nowhere. Take Stoke and Fulham for example, both took points off Man United whereas we'll just donate the annual three points to the mancs. It's already been said that we've only taken 9 points from the last 12 games. Despite having a relatively easy looking run in, I still think we're going to be in the thick of the battle. I thought we'd be OK but the last three games have changed my mind. If we lose against Newcastle and then fail to take more than 4 points from the next 5 games, which is very possible, that's going to leave us needing approximately 8 points from the last 6 games, or, if you assume we lose at Spurs on the last day, 8 points from the penultimate 15. That's to reach 40 points of course, which may not be needed anyway. But, if that is the magic figure this year, it might prove to be too much. I personally hope that Vlaar can stay fit enough to play. Without him we're going to need to score at least 1, maybe 2,in each game just to have a chance.
  16. Going to give O'Neill "as much cash as he needs". That was about as accurate as another Villain (yes, the spelling is right!) - the Prime Minister - suggesting that "money is not an issue" in regards to sorting out the mess the country is currently in.
  17. No offence but your surname isn't Faulkner, is it? ;-)
  18. Should have taken that chance at the end. Had half the goal gaping and side footed it back across to where the keeper was coming from. Hope we don't rue that miss.
  19. Joe Bennett should never have started that game. He's out of the picture for ages and then comes back to play left midfield. The kid is useless and below the level we play at. We were again lucky not to go in losing at half time. Our forwards let Lambert down tonight.Gabby and Weimann should have both scored. But, Guzan had to make a couple of useful stops too!
  20. We should have thrown this lad on instead of Bennett. Delph could have gone to left back. After all, there wasn't long to go and we were 2 goals down!
  21. 11 points for me. Still think it will be enough, but only just. Cardiff, Fulham and Norwich or West Brom are my tips to go down. Can't see us getting anything from the next two games . Biggest concern is getting Vlaar back on the pitch!
  22. A tip for you Paul, keep the locals happy!
  23. Gabby coming back from injury and is better on the counter attack. Could Helenius have taken one or two of the Benteke chances?
