  1. Yh, you’re probably right. In a system where Cash is the preferred source of getting the ball into the area… Messi would struggle.
  2. If Gerrard had come in and done what Snith did, everyone would have been raving about how great a manager he is. it fizzled out when we lost Grealish, but what he did was great. Our best manager in recent years, including MON.
  3. I hate to agree, but I do. May not be the player, but rather the system.. But quite frankly, AEG has been more effective.
  4. Not at all weird. I want the transfer window to shut asap so Gerrard can’t do any more damage. Can imagine Buendia, Bailey, Sanson, Mings, Luiz all demanding to leave if this fool stays in charge. And before we spend a shed load on some washed up 30 year old in a bid to save Gerrard his job.
  5. will be another Gana. where he can’t perform to the best of his capabilities here and will go on to much greater things once he goes to a club that actually has someone who knows what he’s doing in charge. Even then he’s our best player.
  6. 100% this. Its not Gerrard’s fault that he got hired and paid through the nose for a premier league job.
  7. Even with 60% possession we were utterly shit. Just passing it around in our own half for the sake of it just bores the hell out of me. There’s just no ideas. The only player who can actually unlock a defence with a pass doesn’t start. Everything about his tactics is to get it to the fullbacks to cross it in… to nobody. Cash can’t cross. Digne can, but what are Ings and Watkins going to do against 6ft+ defenders? It’s so damn depressing. Coming from some of the best football I’ve seen at villa (under Smith) to this utter shite. Yes, it went stale under Smith, and I could see some logic in sacking him. But my god, not for THIS.
  8. He’s clearly rubbed up too many people the wrong way. This team are not playing for him.
  9. Potter is proving what Brentford proves before him. It’s not the players, it’s the system, the tactics and man management. You can literally sell your ‘best’ players, and immediately have someone step into their shoes and look no worse. You can give Gerrard the pick if a world 11, and he’d still be utterly clueless about what to do.
  10. This here, in bold, is the fundamental problem in all of this. Too many people (Purslow included) saw it like this. There was nothing surreal about this appointment. It’s like me thinking it’s surreal that I got Pele as my new accountant. He might have been good at football 40 years ago, but can he actually add? We got rid of a manager that had proven capability, and replaced him with a rookie that had won a two horse race. Utterly appalling decision from the off. This appointment has cost us millions, and has put us back 2 years. If Smith needed replacing, shouldn’t have been for a managerial nobody. Now let’s see what Purslow does now. There is no doubt Gerrard needs replacing. If he goes for some other making their way in the world ex-star, then he needs to go too. We need a capable pair of hands. Someone that has demonstrated that they can handle high profile players. Someone who will demand respect for what he has achieved as a manager, not as a player.
  11. Exactly Bruce was a step in the right direction. Steadied a ship before Smith. This guy is aiming straight for an iceberg and is blaming the passengers for it.
  12. And yet… there will STILL be people on this board that will say everyone else has an ‘agenda’ Utter utter dross once again. Sacking Smith for this? He needs to be gone by 9pm tonight, or else.
  13. It’s his official representative.
  14. So what’s your solution? Have all the agents and players cussing the manager on social media?
  15. It wouldn’t be though, would it? it would be a quality player exiled because he can’t control his dad/agent If Butler can’t maintain his professionalism, Bailey needs a new agent. End of.
  16. Whilst i don’t like what Gerrard is ‘trying’ to do.. this is completely out of order. Bailey has done very little to justify a starting place when he has been given the opportunity. If Gerrard drops Bailey from the squad because if this, I’d support that decision.
  17. If he gets the win today I’ll be delighted for him and for us. Any points against City and Arsenal would be a bonus. Expecting none. If we lose With a dire performance - I’m sorry but he’s got to go. if we play well and lose, then maybe see how we go against the next couple
  18. I’m not gonna say anything
  19. In that case give me the job. I’ll happily learn whilst doing it
  20. Lol, no it doesn’t.
  21. Well that’s hardly the manager’s fault. He doesn’t know what he’s doing himself.
  22. By that yard-stick… none of the 11 justified starting the next game. None.
  23. My point is that I would have been very optimistic, probably over optimistic before the start of the season. Losing Grealish and replacing him with Ings, Buendia, Bailey, Kamara, Carlos should really have seen us improve on the points score that Smith managed. But clearly he was a better player for us than even we gave him credit for. wouod I be ‘happy’ with 50 points? Not really. But the way we’re playing I think I’d snap your hand off. Whilst not great, I don’t think 50 would be sack-worthy.
  24. I didn’t buddy. I think too much changes to predict too far ahead. For instance before the season started I would probably have had us on 60+ points. I’ll take 50+ right now if you offered it to me.
  25. Joking apart, at the beginning of the season I would have expected the following points: Bournemouth 2.5 Everton 2 Palace 1.5 West Ham 1.5 Arsenal 0.5 Man City 0 Leicester 1 Southampton 2 Leeds 2 ————————— I would have expected 13 points from the first 9 games. So to meet expectations he would need another 10 points from these next 6 So below 8 points = sacked 8-9 with decent performances buys a little time. 10+ and he’s off the hook.
